I've got an odd issue. I just installed F11 on a fresh drive, and all seemed to go fine. But when I boot up and go to the gui I get desktop icons but no top or bottom bars.How can I find out what the problem is and then fix it?GFX card is an ATI X1950 pro which it detected.

I accidentally clicked Hide Menu toolbar, which apparently in this, there's no way to unhide it. The only thing showing now is the Sidebar, and I don't know how to get any of the toolbars back. [URL]

I am currently studying Programming at a local Tech school, the current language I am learning is C#.
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the KDE interface and GnuCash 2.2.7. The GnuCash manual, version 2.0 (the latest, apparently) says:
GnuCash, as a Gnome application, also allows you to define your own menu shortcuts. To define a shortcut, first go to the "Menu and Toolbar" preference panel and select the "Editable menu accelerators" check box. Then return to GnuCash, click on the menu header and move the mouse pointer over the menu item. While the menu item is highlighted, press a key or key combination to set the shortcut. You should now see your shortcut choice next to the item in the menu. To delete a shortcut, press the Delete key while the menu item is highlighted. Be careful when setting shortcuts as Gnome does no checking on the key values pressed, and you can easily do things like set a letter of the alphabet as your shortcut.
But I can't find the Menu and Toolbar preference panel. There's a Preferences section in the Edit menu, but that has nothing I can see about shortcuts. So how do I set shortcuts, or even see a list of shortcuts that are already there?
I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS version. can i know how to get application menu toolbar in the mentioned ubuntu version.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.
It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.
I've just installed an Ubuntu 9.04 to a Lenovo N500 laptop and as the default user (ie with root privileges) I have installed Flash 10 using dpkg -i install_flash..10.deb and delicious toolbar using Firefox internal add-on system.
Later I've created a "desktop user" and logged in as a desktop user. In Firefox, Flash 10 is ok, (e.g. UTube is functional) but there's no delicious toolbar in any way!
How to bring back delicious in desktop user? Could it be something to do with file permissions?
Is it possible to tweak 11.04 to show the old toolbar at the top of the desktop page? If I want to put apps on the desktop how do I do that from the apps page?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have F11 running on an MSI wind. I installed KDE and then downloaded LXDE and have been using it for a few days. All of the sudden LXDE panel and a program called GTK-gnash started eating up all my cpu. So, I stopped the processes and restarted the desktop via CTL-ALT_BACKSPACE and rebooted. Now I cant open anything in the fedora menu, no programs, nothing comes up. Cant find any info on what I should do. Can still run firefox and stuff from applets, just cant access my programs menu.

However, I'm unable to change from one desktop to another - from what I've read, there's meant to be a drop-down menu at the login page allowing you to select the desktop but I don't have one.
I am a beginner with Fedora (mostly used Ubuntu in the past few years, but figure it's time for a change) so I may be missing something obvious.
Not sure it's relevant in this case but specs: Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI 4850, 4gb ram, 320gb HD.
F13 just installed for me on a server back in the states for me. I VNC into it to setup my personal website. The GNOME menu listings do not have the tool I am familiar with that tells me which process are running, allows me to stop and start them, and to install them I believe if they are on the machine. I can see that MYSQL are on the machine with the Add/Remove tool. I also see myphpAdmin. I need to get both of these up and running. I should be able to do this with out going back to 1980's terminal commands right?

However, when the cursor hovers over the icons, they become normal. This is a problem with ati driver and Gnome-shell.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 9.10. In the Remote Desktop config dialog I get: "Your desktop is only reachable over the local network. Others can access your computer using the address 127.0.0.1 or tabatha.local." I understand this means only the loopback ip address is available. All my other machines show their true local ip address (e.g., 192.168.1.104) in this dialog. Thus I cannot log on to this desktop from other machines.
When I try to do a remote logon from another Ubuntu 9.10 box (or from an XP box using a VNC viewer), I get: "Connection to 192.168.1.102 has been closed." What steps are needed to make this machine show its actual ip address? All file sharing between the various machines is working properly and all windows shares back and forth between XP and 'nix, and among the the vaious XP boxes and linux boxes are available as designed.
i put a windows program on my ubuntu pc and it's a portable program so i had to add a shortcut to the menu myself, well, i got the shortcut added but when i click it, it says that it cannot access it and it also says Permission Denied.
View 7 Replies View RelatedNew Fedora 13 Install. I have Remote Desktop Enabled. I can access the machine from itself but not others on the network. I stopped the firewall, that did not work. I looked in hosts.allow and hosts.deny, no entries there. The vino server is running. There is nothing in /varlog/messages, dmesg or /var/log/secure, at least nothing I could find related to vino. What else can I check? The conf file in my home folder looks exactly like one on another machine where it is working. forgot to add the message I get when I try it from a remote machine is "The connection to host 192.168.1.100 was closed". So it appears something is actively rejecting the login.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a recent convert from Ubuntu (my company uses Juniper VPN and FedoraRHEL is the only certified OS for the client) and I'm having an issue that I can't seem to find the answer to.I installed Fedora 14 and have dual monitors running on a GeForce 8500 GT with one DVI and one VGA connection. VGA is the left monitor, DVI is on the right. After install, Fedora was defaulting to the DVI (right) monitor as the primary, so I used the Monitors utility to rearrange them so they went left to right. I even selected the left (VGA) monitor as the primary. I was hoping that the top and bottom bars would follow.My issue is that both the launch bar on the top, and the task bar on the bottom are still on the right-hand screen, and I can't for the life of me figure out how in the heck to get them both over to the left-hand screen. Am I missing something horribly obvious?

Did a reboot because i was messing around with stuff and just wanted to see something, and when i logged back in, the file/edit toolbar doesnt show in any program EXCEPT for firefox. I have installed Open Office 3.2 on My SYSTEM. However, I think its look is some ugly, specialy its scrollbars, combo boxes to select fonst and size.
The previous version (3.1) looks much better. I think that version (3.1) is integrated with the system theme.
In the 3.2 version, the toolbar look is great... the problem starts in the font toolbar, continues with its scrollbars (seems ms w 95)

I switched to fedora to learn. I also purchased several vps (virtual private servers) so I could hack away and not destroy my pc. well I would like to do the following...let me call one server A and the other server B
Put to terminals on my top panel. when I click on A I will automatically via ssh be taken to the server A online and when I click on B (the second xterm icon) I would like to be taken to vps B. Ideally I would also like to bypass my password and just go in a root to both as again these are just things I got to learn on.. I don't know where to start but it sure seems like something that would be possible. Of course I don't care if I am clicking on the terminal icon or a program that just launches the appropriate terminal..
I just upgraded from fc11 to fc12 with a great deal of trouble...finally am partially functional. The problem really bugging me is the missing claws-mail toolbar that shows "tools", addressbook, encrypt/decrypt, and especially the ability to load plugins, and set all preferences. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling but nothing provides the toolbar I need. Yum does not provide anything new either. As most of my important passwords are encrypted, and I need the claws pgp plugin to be loaded.

Why does this happen? it means that remote access is useless because you would need to enter the password locally before you can vnc to it. I do not wish to disable the default keyring but is there a way of making vnc work so I can enter the password.
