After installing I can see the Wine drop-down menu under the Applications, but every time I install something, updates etc. I can see this same error. How can this be fixed?
I installed 11.4 and it seems to be working fine. To run few windows application I need WINE. I installed WINE using YAST Software Manager. But when I install application in WINE it's not working correctly. The same application is working fine in MINT/WINE.

Default Drivers per Ubuntu="2:8.780-0ubuntu2"(Maverick) Problem with these drivers: Every game in wine does not look correctly..... After installing 10.9 catalyst(maverick) The games work fine, however when I restart my computer with these drivers installed BAM!! Dead X.....
So the problem here is indeed the drivers, the ones suggested by Ubuntu install and work, but the games screw up.....the 10.9 works with the games but not Ubuntu as you can see no matter which way I go I'm screwed.....basically I'm just keeping 10.9 installed without Rebooting so I can do everything with Wine....
And yes i've tried everything you can think of with aticonfig(tls=1,tls=0,--initial,ForceXAA,blah blah blah) you think it, i've tried it. The problem simply is that Ubuntu 10.10 does not have any working ATI drivers for Wine at this time. So I have to wait and HOPE that ATI's 10.10 drivers that are comming out will fix this issue. I have tried the RC1 beta 10.10 drivers and the issue still persists, not a good sign. The beta drivers did not fix the issue i really hope ATI plans on fixing this problem in 10.10!
EDIT: Fixed some typo's! EDIT2: Ok problem is fixed with the newest drivers, however I am forced to disable GLSL in order for games to work why was this able to be enabled with ATI 10.9 but not now? Hopefully this is fixed so it can be re-enabled....
I use Wine on Kubuntu 10.10.
Whenever some-application to open the Internet, wine browser is opened in loop untill I end process tree of wine server.
Also when I use it to execute .exe program I have error

IBM/Lenovo, ThinkPad X40 (circa 2005), 1.2G of RAM, 17.5G of HD (which reports some damaged sectors) - essentially a progenitor of netbooks in size I've been running 9.10 Karma Koala for about a year now since XP fell victim to a virus and I had lost my disc. I've very much enjoyed the stability of ubuntu, encountering only minor problems which have been easily fixed. I decided to allow my system to update to 10.04 via Update Manager, which it completed and attempted to reboot. My system would only display a black screen from then on out with no indication of loading 10.04. I downloaded and attempted USB reinstall with 10.04 and LTS, always ending with the same result. I'm curious if anyone has had similar problems due to unstable installers or should I assume my system is too old to move past 9.10 (which seems to run without difficulty). Not urgent for my purposes, but I'd like to stay with the supported kernel over time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 from a Live CD today. Everything seemed to go fine, I chose to wipe the entire disk. However, it would only startup once. Now, when I turn on my laptop, all I get is a blank screen.
I had a look at my partitions with GParted on the Live CD and noticed that there was a 1 MiB unallocated space just before it. code...
when I tried to install wine I got "Missing Dependency: wine-gecko is needed by package wine"so I looked for wine-gecko and download it but also when I tried to install it I got "Missing Dependency: wine-gecko is needed by package wine"it seems that I am in loop each package need the other what to do please?

This the message that i get:The file '/home/carl/Downloads/FW_V32_5_10_00_5054v2.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.I installed this same file in 9.10 with no problems and I tried another MS program that I installed in 9.10 using wine no problems.

View 4 Replies View Relatedim trying to install wine1.3 and i need to upgrade libc6-i386 so i let apt-get try to do it, but it hangs at unpacking the deb, normally it has no problem no error occurs just sits there like its a huge deb but its only 3mbs. ive tryed using synaptic and doing the following.

I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 and opened it with Wine (read it was the best and easiest to use) after a few seconds I get an error message asking me to install msxml 6.10.1129.0, So I did some further research and found a bunch of links for download but from experience I did not attempt any as I know my PC can get infected. However, later when I restarted my computer, Wicd started, but I can't connect to my network, it shows up as <hidden>, I can connect to linksys, so I know that wireless is working on that computer. I know that there's nothing wrong with my wireless router, because I can connect to my network in this computer.

Can anyone run me through the process to install lftp correctly with all the correct support for SSL and SSH connections?
I am using the newest version of Ubuntu.
I just built my PC and loaded ubuntu on it. When the ubuntu desktop comes up everything looks ok. but when I click on any of the drop down menus, or anything else for that matter, the computer freezes immediately. I,ve tried copying the iso boot file to a new cd and reloading ubuntu but the problem remains. I've also tried removing one of the two ram sticks but again, the problem remains.
PC specs:
Intel dh55hc board
Intel i3 cpu 3ghz
2 Corsair 2gb RAM sticks
750 western digital HD
Sony lightscribe DVD drive
Since the time I have moved to Ubuntu..I am finding it difficult to do work on images.... since in Windows I was using Photoshop.. But I tried running photoshop using wine and stuff but either didn't work or caused a lot of problems. So I found a new solution GIMP that is very close to Photoshop but not exactly like that.Now I got another solution that is some modification to GIMP called GIMP shop.
I downloaded the Linux version and I got a file gimp-2.2.8.tar.bz2 I was always confused in how I can install these source... there is no help on their website. installing these source files.... since I need to do many images manipulation and editing for my work.
It seems my video drivers are not correctly installed. However, I'm not sure how to correctly install them.I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, nVidia Geforce Go 7700.

It's a menu full of applications.I've filled mine with different applications I've reinstalled. There are many repeats of application names, with the only difference being most of them don't work. This is due to changing the installation location, via WINEPREFIX. No biggie.I'm also using Ubuntu 10.10. It's very nice!
Problem: How in the world do I get rid of these unwanted list items? It's very hard to find the ones that are good.
Plan B: The easiest solution, so far, is to reinstall ubuntu and install these applications correctly the first time. Then I won't have all of those repeats.
when i am trying to install microsoft office2007 in my fedora14 through wine, after 75% progress installation stops and an error message appears. "installation stops due to an unexpected error" but in any way i want to install it on fedora14. its a 'do or die 'condition so anybody can give me informations.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust received Intramfs update, within the hour (4/22/10 11:47 central) , installs correctly on a new 10.04 install but now machine cannot bootIt is somehow resetting the video it appears as the boot screen comes up in different (larger) type. then blanks and all activity stops,, I have been having similar problems if I apply all updates after an initial install of 10.04 but if I hold the opne gl modules the system will work but a backup taken with Remastersys made after the open GL installs will not work while the one made prior to the open GL install will restore the system so I'm guessing some sort of erroneous HW reset sequence

View 6 Replies View RelatedInstalled ubuntu 10.10 on my dell D600. Install went fine, but after updates, the initial startup sound disappeared. Also had a bit of an issue getting the wireless card to work, eventually found the answer in the debian wiki and got the legacy installer for the b4X broadcomn chipset. Since then, everytime i install something, the system tells me the package was not installed correctly, but it does appear to install, except the stellarium.

Cannot get FlASH install correctly so I can view shows on HULU. In the past I could but recently HULU request that I install FlASH. When I click on the link provided and run the install, the install appears to download but I still cannont view shows on HULU.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to support Ubuntu, and I want Ubuntu to succeed, but..Each of the recent upgrades has been more painful than the last one, and it seems like the same old problems are persisting. In Koala it was the sound cards, and though I've just started my struggles with the newest release, it is very obvious that the server-load problems are still there. Hey, you Ubuntu people don't have to invent BitTorrent technology, you just need to make it the transparent default.
It seems to me that most of the problem is that Ubuntu's economic model is broken. They need more testing for new features, and the model needs to be funded so that the features which are added are tested thoroughly. I suggest that they need a system where we the users put our money where our mouths are, so to speak. We should be allowed to subscribe to a budget for proposed new features, where those budgets included sufficient testing.
Actually, I used to be a professional programmer, but I don't want to program these days, even to help Ubuntu, because I know just how difficult and stressful it is to do program well. However, I'd be willing to put some money out to help improve Ubuntu--but I also want to know just what I'm buying into.
There are various ways this could be done, but here is a link about one version of charity funding I was thinking of a while back. As it applies here, the Ubuntu foundation would act as the charity brokerage, and we would donate by buying charity shares in proposed features (including MORE testing).

Basically i had this problem before 11.04 as i tried the online update to 11.04 which kept failing so used a CD to update.Sometimes my internet works great, which only lasts a couple of minutes until its slow, and to the point where it cant even get 1% on a ..... upload.Since i duel boot i have tried the internet on Windows and it seems to work absolutely perfect.
