I installed 11.4 and it seems to be working fine. To run few windows application I need WINE. I installed WINE using YAST Software Manager. But when I install application in WINE it's not working correctly. The same application is working fine in MINT/WINE.

I recently installed SuSE 11.4 (kernel 2.6.37.6-0) and it all works very nicely EXCEPT for the KDM login. I am using kde 4.6.0 and have the latest updates for 11.4 installed and at install time, I left the automatic Login box checked which works ok. However, when I go to the 'Personal Settings - configure desktop' and change the Login - convenience' to UNcheck the Auto login box, it does not change the Login action - I stlll login (without a login name and password screen appearing). I have looked at the file - /usr/share/kde/config and the kdmrc file does change to read 'autologin' true (or false) when I make the changes in the configure desktop GUI, but this has no effect on my actual ability to 'login' automatically all the time!

After installing I can see the Wine drop-down menu under the Applications, but every time I install something, updates etc. I can see this same error. How can this be fixed?
I installed some programs with wine. Then I uninstalled them all following the commands given in Wine Wiki. I don't see them in the uninstallation GUI but ı couldn't remove one thing: When I right click on an mp3 file and choose "open file with", winamp is still there. How can I remove it from the list?

When I re start, same thing happens again tells me it needs to restart. I'm using Gnome and openSUSE 11.3. I checked older posts for a solution it seems this has happened before. Do I just wait for a new version to come out of the repos?

When the ubuntu desktop comes up everything looks ok. but when I click on any of the drop down menus, or anything else for that matter, the computer freezes immediately. I,ve tried copying the iso boot file to a new cd and reloading ubuntu but the problem remains. I've also tried removing one of the two ram sticks but again, the problem remains.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 from a Live CD today. Everything seemed to go fine, I chose to wipe the entire disk. However, it would only startup once. Now, when I turn on my laptop, all I get is a blank screen.
I had a look at my partitions with GParted on the Live CD and noticed that there was a 1 MiB unallocated space just before it. code...
I have a hp zd 7000, i really like this laptop, the onboard ethernet will not work at all. i purchased a dynex wired ethernet pcmcia card to get on the internet with. i have had no luck getting on the internet with it it will light up so i am getting power but no transmitting light works at all i have three net work cards listed in the system. one is the wireless. and the other two are the wired eth0 is the onboard and eth2 is the dynex what can i do next to determine the problem i do not use the wireless at all.

Default Drivers per Ubuntu="2:8.780-0ubuntu2"(Maverick) Problem with these drivers: Every game in wine does not look correctly..... After installing 10.9 catalyst(maverick) The games work fine, however when I restart my computer with these drivers installed BAM!! Dead X.....
So the problem here is indeed the drivers, the ones suggested by Ubuntu install and work, but the games screw up.....the 10.9 works with the games but not Ubuntu as you can see no matter which way I go I'm screwed.....basically I'm just keeping 10.9 installed without Rebooting so I can do everything with Wine....
And yes i've tried everything you can think of with aticonfig(tls=1,tls=0,--initial,ForceXAA,blah blah blah) you think it, i've tried it. The problem simply is that Ubuntu 10.10 does not have any working ATI drivers for Wine at this time. So I have to wait and HOPE that ATI's 10.10 drivers that are comming out will fix this issue. I have tried the RC1 beta 10.10 drivers and the issue still persists, not a good sign. The beta drivers did not fix the issue i really hope ATI plans on fixing this problem in 10.10!
EDIT: Fixed some typo's! EDIT2: Ok problem is fixed with the newest drivers, however I am forced to disable GLSL in order for games to work why was this able to be enabled with ATI 10.9 but not now? Hopefully this is fixed so it can be re-enabled....

i managed to install Photoshop over Wine nd it s working like a charm. Installing the Tablet was even more easy, just used Wizardpen (reconized) nd WORKS! But the Pen Pressure aint working, can someone tell me what can i do, because this is the last thing i need for a new life as an Ubuntu user. My tablet is Genius G-Pen M712X nd Ubuntu 11.04.

I have a few machines set up to run off in the corner without monitors attached. I installed 11.3 (32-bit) on a couple of them and they run fine during setup but then I move them to the corner with no monitor attached and they won't boot correctly.
By this I mean they still run some apps I setup to run automatically from daemon scripts, but I can't ping or access the machines at all. It's almost like they aren't booting all the way up. Hooking a monitor up fixes this but I don't have enough monitors to keep these hooked up like this.
I have a couple of other 11.3 systems that are setup almost the same way but I put graphics drivers on those and they work with or without monitors attached. I don't want to have to put graphics drivers on those systems.

It took me 3 tries to get is ISO image that matched the md5 checksum on the download site. At 8 - 10 hours each it was a PITA. The first simply aborted 1/3 of the way through (HTTP direct link). The second used wget, got a full file but the checksums didi not match. The magic method was Bitorrent.
All this has left me with an uneasy feeling about the contents of the DVD created from the ISO. Is there a way to test the DVD contents?
I found that some application icons in the panel bar (at the bottom) is not shown correctly, which makes it hard to tell which application it is when I iconify that application. For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. I attached a screen shot here to show this issue.

I was hoping for a self-installer, because I'm used to windows. It opened in KPackageKit, or something named similar. I extracted it to my documents, because frankly, I have no idea where to extract it to. Anywhere's I've looked says that most software comes as a package, which you can search for and install in YaST. I searched for "firefox", and nothing new came up. how to extract things to the right place/install them correctly with YaST?

Now that i reboot it frequently i notice that the clock is always not what is supposed to be. I'm in Toronto, Canada so it should be GMT -5:00. Sometimes it shows GMT-6, sometimes -10, now is GMT -11. Anyone would know why i have this issue? I'm running Suse11.1 on a 64 bit. My laptop which runs on 32 bit is working fine.(well probably different versions for kernel and kde.(whatever was in th repository to be updated i updated)

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an external harddrive which i encrypted scince opensuse 10.2 with luks. Now i installed opensuse 11.2 its impossible to me to mount this drive correctly.
the harddrive was recocnized in my former opensuse 11.0 correctly as luks encrypted and during installation yast installed the kernel module and encrypted the harddrive so that i regulay could mount it on boot by giving the password for that harddrive. Scince opensuse 11.2 however yast thinks this is an dmcrypted partitoon and tries to unlock the harddrive using dmcrypt which of course fails.
does somebody know how i can encrypt and mount the externeal drive automaticly?
i have made a backup of /etc before i made a new installation of opensuse 11.2. is the possible to use the old fstab entries for that after installing luks?
I just installed SUSE 11.2 from a downloaded DVD The installation went correctly but now I boot up the computer and when the login screen appears there will be no box highlighting a user or even a blank box to input user. The restart, suspend and shutdown buttons are not operational. However, if I power down the computer manually and restart the login screen comes up normally.

I am using Opensuse 11.4 with KDE Version 4.7.1 and kernel 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop on an Acer TravelMate 4200.I updated my system yesterday and since that update the default Application Launcher for KDE is not working, when you click on the launch icon you get the "Kickoff Application launcher" balloon dialog but nothing else happens. A sort of a work around for this issue is that I have found when the application launcher is switched to Classic Menu Style then the classic menu works without any problems. I would however like to use the default launcher and not the classic one as it has so much more functionality and is easier to use and navigate

Yast2 refused to work with an error message: unknown option -s (or similar). The regular updates didn't work also. Then I decided to do a new installation. Now I'm having a new problem: Display settings (Anzeige-Einstellungen) reports: Monitor unknown (Monitor unbekannt).
Possible resolution settings are: 800 x 600; 640 x 480; 400 x 300; 320 x 240;
Possible refresh rates are: 60 Hz or 56 Hz @ 800 x 600
I need 1024 x 768 @ 76 Hz. In the previous installation it worked well. How I can teach openSUSE to run 1024 x 768 @ 76 Hz?

I'm supposed to be starting an online course through OntarioLearn, and they provide software called "Embanet" which all the assignments are issued and turned in through. Wine won't run the Windows XP version of the software. There's also a Mac version but I'm not sure if it would be easier to get that working. This is the error I get. After which, the application doesn't start (but it runs in the background):

I think my only option is to install Windows through VirtualBox/Qemu, but as I don't have a Windows install CD for this computer (only a 64bit CD, I need 32) I don't know if it'll be possible. I have a 64bit processor (C2D T7250), but Ubuntu is installed as 32bit. Will VB or Qemu accept my 64bit installation CD?
