I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 (kernel version 2.6.38) on my Pandaboard. When I run iwconfig, wlan0 shows up but the wireless is disabled. I am not able to start it up. I have not installed any patches or anything. Either upgrade kernel to 2.6.39+ or patch the existing drivers.
View 2 Replieshave been trying to setup a dual boot system with ubuntu and XP running side by side on my Thinkpad T41.tried it a few times and always causes the same problem. i have 40 gig HDD, on which i create a 13 gig NTFS partition and leave the rest as free space. then install XP on the NTFS partition. no problems.
then i boot from the ubuntu disk (9.10 Karmic) and install using the "use free space" option at the partition section. ubuntu installs ok, and boots fine from GRUB 2.0. BUT when i select the XP option from GRUB's list, it starts to boot XP, i get the standard XP loading screen for three seconds and then it crashes to a blue screen critical problem, and restarts the system. when i then boot from the xp cd and go into recovery mode CHKDSK will not recognise the disk, and DISKPART shows one HDD at 35 gig which it cannot access.
this means i cant run FIXBOOT and get my xp install running again. every time i do this process it produces the same problem. tried at first with xp installed on whole HDD, and reducing the xp partition size. killed XP. then tried ubuntu first and xp second - but this caused the same inaccessible disk problem - xp would not recognise the partitions and would not install. so i slipstreamed my XP install disk to SP2 hoping this would make it recognise the partitions, but no luck there. so had to format all and repartition the 13 gig NTFS for xp. installed xp again without difficulty but ubuntu install killed my xp in the same way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu server 10.04. I want to connect to my wireless router(192.168.123.254). My router normally has wpa but I turned off encryption until I can get the server working. my router has MAC flitering which it has my servers MAC address and the dhcp server on my router is configured to assigned an ip address of 192.168.123.123 to my server.
On the server I do see wlan0 when I do sudo ifconfig -a. HOw do I setup the rest? I 'm very new with command line and linux so please bear with me.
I've got an Ubuntu box set up as a router and wifi hotspot. I can access the internet and any website using this box. I can connect a laptop to my wifi access point, and connect to both the router box and the internet. I'm writing this message from it. If I access either hsbc Hong Kong internet banking or speedtest.net from my laptop I can't connect. Every other site I've tried is fine. What could be causing this? I don't know where to start. I've set up the firewall rules and routing tables, so I vaguely know what I'm doing... but clearly not enough to debug this issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed and un-installed 3 different versions of Ubuntu. My fourth is a re-install of v9.10. During all these installs I have had difficulty getting my wifi to work. During my last install I left the ISO in the drive by mistake so when the system rebooted it loaded from the disc in demo.... This was interesting because in the demo the program manager showed 2 drives for wireless, 1 Broadcom STA and 2 Broadcom b43xx. I tried loading the STA and it worked! (sorry it could have been the b43xx, for the time being it's insignificant) Upon my excitement I restarted the computer and removed the disk went to my Ubuntu set up and ...what the Broadcom choices weren't there Why?
Now I am running Win 7 Home 32bit on my main drive and have Ubuntu loaded on its own drive. I have a Netgear WN311b wireless N card installed. Again my confusion is why it worked in demo (off the cd) but doesn't from full install. I read on the web to try inserting my supplied disc from Netgear and then search program manager. It now showed the two for-mentioned Broadcom programs, but this time wouldn't install them. On the b43 I got an error message and on the STA it searched extracting and loading this continued for a 1/2 hour with no progression. I couldn't close the PM or the extracting and loading box, so I had to restart the computer.
I just got a new desktop (the client) and hooked my "old" computer (the server) up to it with a crossover cable & NFS while I set up the new system.Unfortunately, while nfsd is running firefox cannot access the internet through ath0 -- the wifi card (NFS/rpc is on the ethernet card). Do I have to set up a proxy server (eg. squid) or is there a simpler solution?I don't need direct access to the net on the client. I just want to be able to use the wifi's IP in the server while it has a NFS client on eth0, so that firefox can work online.

I have also successfully mounted my usb flash drive and CD drive; the one thing I am finding rather hectic is finding a way to connect to my wireless network with a "WPA2 Personal" Security and "TKIP/AES" Encryption with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card... I doubt that the drivers are actually installed, and Idk how to install them.Google searches on this yield confusing results, so I need help. I have updated the firmware and I can see the AP. I have been using yast to configure the wlan device but one of the last steps it trys to perform is install smpppd. Even when hooked up via eth0 it can't find this program.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor two days I've tried to get my new Belkin 7050 wifi stick up and running. No matter what I did nothing changed, at all. After close to 8hrs of straight trouble shooting I have made zero progress. Zero.
If you have a bunch of free time and want a project then feel free to play with this device. However if you're short on time or have work to get done just take it back to the store and get a different device.
Here's the over view of my situation :
- Ubuntu 8.04 : Device is detected. DHCP = Doesn't connect to router / get IP. Router can see device. Router has no security / password enabled.After several hours of trouble shooting Ubuntu I booted into win2k (supported by device)
- Win2k : Device is detected, official software installed. DHCP = Doesn't connect to router / get IP.
It does the exact same thing in Win2k as it does in Ubuntu. - Ubuntu 9.10 : Did a fresh install if 9.10 just to trouble shoot this problem. Symptoms are exactly the same. DHCP doesn't get an ip. There are no errors in /var/log/messages
- Ubuntu 9.10 : Blacklisted the regular drivers and did the ndiswrapper method, smooth sailing. After all is said and done it does the exact same thing. DHCP doesn't get an ip.
In all the trouble shooting I did (iwconfig, ifconfig, etc) I never received any error messages telling me that something had went wrong (besides the part where dhcp didnt get an ip).

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows 7 64bits and Ubuntu 10.04 64bits. My problem is that when I'm connected to my wireless router the connection crashes when I watch a live stream video such ..... or something else. It does not happen when I'm connected via cable to the router nor in Windows 7 when I'm connected via wifi.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an LM Technologies 54Mbps wifi usb adapter.This is because my wireless section on my motherboard does not work.The drivers on the installation disk do not automatically install for linux. Looking at the manual I have to build the device driver. On the page is computer programing formulie that looks like a foreign language. I do not know computer programing. At the bottom of the page it says:-

If you only need driver of ZD1211 or ZD1211B you can issue:

to install the driver.
Then it says:- Build the debugging tool. There are two debugging tools in this package,"apdbg" and "menudbg". Run"make debug" to complete them both. If you do not have ncurse library, you may get some error messages while compiling meudbg. you can ignore it and get apdbg only. It goes on and on about network interface, configure wireless settings.
I've had 8.04 for almost a year & a half now, but the one thing that seems to confuse me after getting the rest of ubuntu is how to get wifi working. Before you say "read XXX FAQ, wiki, page", etc, I've read so many and despite understanding every normal thing about ubuntu, and all the customization I have, I haven't seen a single, up-to-date guide for making sense of wifi.
Here's what I know:
My wireless card is Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection (rev 05), supported in linux only by using a windows driver, ipw2200, which I do have running and installed somehow.

I also realized I needed ndiswrapper, so I installed that. Beyond this, I'll just admit it- I'm very confused. I have always had a working connection over ethernet cable plugged in, but I really need wireless lately, and found an old Netgear WGR614v7 G band wireless rounter in my basement, hooked it up, and have a wired connection from it right now.
So how do I set-up/get my wireless working with all this thus far? How do I set up the router's network through Ubuntu as well, so I can create a named network to connect to? I'm reading every guide I can, and am just coming up more confused.
I got two issues with my wifi usb adapter:
1) it cannot see any networks around
2) i cannot setup it in master mode to use my PC as a router
As far as i can see, the device is recognized and the correct driver (rt73usb) is loaded. I was able to connect to a laptop somehow (the laptop could see other networks and the adapter's PC-to-PC network). I'd like to make it work as a router, i.e. share my internet connection (eth0) via wlan0. Here is what i have:

If I understand correctly Ubuntu does not allow a wifi connection until a user loges in. That makes it so that prey (see preyproject.com) cannot send notices until someone has logged onto Ubuntu.what I would like to do (but I have no clue how) is to set up a user account that automatically, in the background, logs on at start up. Then this little user login would establish any Internet connection that is possible (wifi or lan) and start the program 'prey'. This should all be totally transparent to the user that would just see the regular log in screen.

So considering that Django uses Python and SMF uses PHP, would it be possible for both of these to coexist on the same server? If so, how? If this can't be done, I'm more than willing to rebuild the website in PHP. If I were to do this, then what do I need to do to reconfigure Apache? As of right now it's using mod_wsgi, but I'm assuming I would need mod_php. How would I set this up?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently set up a network of 21 computers running Edubuntu 10.10 I use iTalc to communicate with the pcs and also to shutdown all of them at once. The only problem I have, is it doesn't start up again with iTalc. So I switched to ClusterSSH. Only problem I have now is that everytime I run cssh, I need to manually add IP addresses of all the pc's, before I can start issuing commands. Is there a config file or something I can populate with all the IP addresses so that it starts up with all of them already added? And while we are at it, the command to start up a computer on the network?
