Ubuntu :: Org Is Not Installed - Java?

Aug 29, 2010

I recently installed gtk+ for java on gnome. via sudo apt-get install libjava-gnome-java and after the installation i went to net beans, open it up and typed: import org.gnome.gdk.Event; I got a red line under the org part and a yellow line through out, meaning its an unused import. the red part is what I am concerned about: the error message is as states - pakage import org.gnome.gdk.Event; does not exist. but it has too because i installed the required packages from [URL]

Ubuntu :: Sun-Java-6-jre Installed But Openjdk Loaded

I have both the openjdk-6-jre and sun-java6-jre versions of java installed on my Ubuntu Maverick desktop, with the sun version setup as the default. I was trying to load the web page,URL..., an amateur radio software defined receiver. I can load the page on Firefox run on XP in a VirtualBox machine, but when loaded on Firefox on my Maverick desktop, I wasn't getting any sound with openjdk, so I installed sun's and set it as the default. When I run 'java -version' from the command line, it reports the following:Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04)Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 17.1-b03, mixed mode)but on firefox, when loading the above page, it reports 'java version test applet 1.6.0_20' on the page. How do I get sun's version to run? I need to get the sound to work.

Ubuntu Installation :: Installed Java But Can't Install Plugins

Apr 16, 2010

I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.

Ubuntu :: Get A Java Plugin Manually Installed In Firefox?

Jul 21, 2011

using Xubuntu 11.04

I don't like Firefox 4 and 5 so I uninstalled it and installed FF 3.6.19 manually in the /opt directory. It works really well. I wanted to add a java icedtea plugin to FF. But I can't use Synaptics. Synaptics does not see the FF 3.6.19 - it does not know it's there and will try an install FF5 if I use it to install that plugin - makes sense it would do that.

How do I get a java plugin installed considering how FF is implemented on my system?

I can download a deb installer for the plugin and use the archive manager to get manually get files out of it but what I've tried so far didn't work...

OpenSUSE :: Openoffice Stopped Working When Installed Sun Java?

Feb 1, 2011

Yesterday I disinstalled with yast java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 (which were installed as part of our sitewide suse 11.3 installation) and replaced them with java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 (et al) to solve my problem about bad graphics quality in firefox applets as described and suggested in this other postl. That successfully solved my applet problem, but I just discovered it triggered a new problem with openoffice . I tried opening an existing sxc document and got this error message:[Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library: file:///usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so.

It looks like that openoffice is still looking into the old openjdk instead of the new sun java. How can I repoint it to use the current java (assuming it really needs it) ? Apparently even entering openoffice on a new document gives error in a popupOpenOffice org requires a JRE to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools-Options-OpenOffice org-Java ... but since openoffice does not start I cannot access those options I guess (or is such stuff located elsewhere, and if so where) ?

Ubuntu :: Install Latest Java Version - Java SE 6 Update 24?

Feb 18, 2011

If you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.

Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.

Slackware :: Installing Java Error - When Trying To Run A Java App With The Firefox Plugin - Browser Crashe

May 29, 2011

Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
