I have enable Java in Firefox. This is how I check Edit->Preferences->Content.

After upgrading java (jre) to 1.6.0_19, the java plugin no longer loads into Firefox. All the rest of my plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ load fine.Java can be a pain such a pain the neck!

And now I manage to use Yum and it is not working, I cant find out what is happening but yum loads the plugins and then freezes and is no reaction to ctrl-c or something to stop it so I am have to kill it dna finally got no result from any update processes. Also I manage to clean cache or even to run yum. I checked the logs and it writes nothing about this ,neither an error or something to make me understand whats happening. Tried to install with rpm but the same thing happens. It just freezes...

Now im using CentOS n i updated the system but still i dont see many softwares on repositories unlike in ubuntu moreover i dont know how to install totem codecs and others. I can't even get terminal commands for getting codecs online.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use shoutcast to select streaming audio stations to play, depending on mood,whim, whatever.when I click on 'tune in' next to the audio station, rhythmbox pops up....and that's that. I would expect it to just start playing the station.If I select 'Radio' in rhythmbox's upper left panel, and -then- click 'tune in' on the shoutcast page next to the station I want, there's an entry made in the playist at that time, but then there's an error popup says: Couldn't Start Playback You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins. Which is surprising. It's a shoutcast stream. It should just play. But anyway, I guess something didn't get installed in the default install.

I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? For me to do that, im required to install the following:
1) Java 6 JRE
2) Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable, and point it to your Java 6 JRE home.

I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.

When I load a website with Java on it, I still get the message about needed to install a plugin. Not sure what is up. I've just installed CentOS5.5 on an older P3 machine as well as in a VM under Virtual Box on my laptop and I've run into the same issue with Java on both. During installation, I make sure not to install any form of Java anything as I wish to use Sun/Oracle's JDK. On first login on both machines, typing "java" in a shell finds that gij has magically installed, even though I didn't want it there.
I d/l and install Java 6-23 via the .rpm.bin package from Oracle. Typing java -version in the shell still returns "gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-48)". Ok, so it's 2011 and Oracle/Sun still can't figure out how to write a java installer that will set PATH. I add the following to my .bashrc file under my normal user:
PATH=/usr/local/jdk1.6.0/bin
export PATH
log out, log in and java reports the correct version... Except now I can't su, open vi or a number of other things.
Since I want to use this globally anyways, how do I go about using this version of Java globally for all things java? (eclipse, jboss, etc...) #alternatives --config java only shows this gij version.
I'm using 8.10, but wanted to upgrade firefox to the latest version, so I downloaded the tarball from their website and compiled that. FF 3.6 works fine, but I havn't been able to get my flash or java plugins to work since.

I login to the server and run this shell script when the server is rebooted. I would like to start this script automatically preferably as a service so that I can stop and restart this service whenever I update the java program.
