Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade From Kubuntu 10.04 To 10.11: Keyboard And Mouse Lock At Boot

Running Landmarq Intel Atom DC330 Desktop I have just attempted to upgrade my desktop machine from Kubuntu 10.04 to Kubuntu 10.10. I used KpackageKit to do the upgrade which proceeded smoothly until the install packages phase, which seemed to complete and then repeat. I don't know the detail of what happened as I was out of the room.
The repeat almost completed, but then I got a set of error messages, which basically told me that KpackageKit was unable to install the upgraded packages. I closed KpackageKit, and closed the machine and tried a reboot. This time, I got as far as the splash screen, but although the cursor flashes, I can't type anything in the password box. In addition, the mouse pointer won't move. Using a different wireless mouse works, but I still can't type in a password.
However, the command ctrl+alt+sysrq+RSEIUB works, so the machine is accepting some keyboard input. I also know from using a live disc that my home directory is intact. I would like to revert to my 10.04 installation, and re-try an upgrade to 10.11 afterwards.
After a 4 to 5 minutes after a succesful instalation of Ubuntu 10.10 the mouse and keyboard freeze. I increased the memory and installed a 500 gb hard drive and still have the problem. a second problem. How do I find this post after a day or so.
I want to be able to start a movie on my ubuntu 10.4 machine and then hand it to my daughter (it's a netbook). Is there a program (or setting) to lockdown the keyboard and mouse so she can't change the movie? Obviously there would have to be a hidden password or something.
I am using 10.10, yesterday I did an upgrade using update manager. After restart, booting stops at login screen, keyboard and mouse is not working. I tried login into recovery mode as well as previous kernel versions nothing is working. I tried to login into single user mode even that is also not working.
I am running Ubuntu 10.4 and using Virtualbox very intensively to develop under windows. This is the perfect combination: Virtualbox is excellent and gives great speed, functionality and connectability. However, I keep getting a keyboard and mouse 'lock-up' and find that I have to power-down my PC in order to get things working again. The strange thing here is that Ubuntu seems to continue working fine: for example audio keeps playing and the system once successfully finished burning a CD even though keyboard and mouse were frozen.
This happens only very sporadically but is a serious problem because I can't have things freezing when I am in the middle of development or am demoing functionality to a client.At first I thought it was Ubuntu but it only seems to happen when VirtualBox is running so I am wondering whether there is a problem with the keyboard and mouse capture for Virtualbox and that this is causing the problem.I have de-installed and re-installed Virtualbox but this didn't help.So does anyone have a idea how I could either fix this problem or how I could get the system to free the keyboard and mouse when I get a lock-up.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition i386 version. It was recently working fine until i installed few updates that showed in Update Manager about total size of 200Mb. During the installation BUG USB (blue screen) error comes and laptop restarted. Now i restarted the laptop and from now my mouse and the keyboard not working. I am not able to even login to the system. Not working now anything.. Details: I am running Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop i386 on VMWare Workstation on Windows Vista.
I recently tried to upgrade my Dell Latitude C610 from 10.10 to 11.04, but it got kernel panic right in the middle. Now it at least boots, but the mouse doesn't work--only the keyboard does. How do I fix this enough to use the mouse, or how do I operate Gnome with a keyboard?
I'd lie to leave the display intact and updating while locking the keyboard and mouse. Ideally, a password would unlock the keyboard but hot keys would work as well. Is there already software to do this? Or a Gnome "screen saver" that doesn't effect the monitor?
I have Laptop sony VPCEA22EN. I have installed ubuntu 10.04. it was working fine. Then i installed kubuntu-desktop. it was working fine. i tried to some of bugs using kubuntu update manager. i restarted the laptop.
after that im not able to logon on kubuntu. on kubuntu logon screen i'm unable to enter username n password. Keyboard and mouse is not detected but, usb mouse works.
i tried ctrl+alt+esc, this combination doesnt work while booting. i can't use this combination on log-on screen because keyboard is not detected.
using Kubuntu 10.04. When my computer was being updated sudden power failure forced my system to reboot and in the log in screen I can find that my keyboard and mouse is not working at all. I cannot enter into my system. I tried to enter ctrl+F1 but failed.
I am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:
ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.
I downloaded the Fedora 11 KDE livecd, installed it, and after the reboot when I get to that "firstboot" screen, I can't move the mouse, the keyboard doesn't work, I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04LTS. After completing the upgrade I lost use of the keyboard and mouse. I am able to type before the system loads but after loading- nothing.I tried connecting a USB mouse and that wouldn't work as well.
Is anyone else having issues with their mouse/keyboard responsiveness via Synergy after upgrading to 11.04?
If I plug mouse and keyboard directly into the desktop the issue goes away. But when I connect via QuickSynergy and share my mouse/keyboard the mouse is very slow and has low sensitivity.
I have been battling this issues for about a year now. Kind of got tired of dealing with it, but inevitably I go away for vacation or something and I lose power at the fort then the system will not come back up on its own.
Every time (100%) I power my system on with the single USB cable connected to it, my system hangs. It did it on 8.x, 9.x and all versions of 10.x. I have asked the questions before, but never get anywhere with it. Finally I have found this Forum and figured out how to ask questions Weird, I know Anyway.
The system goes through the BIOS check and gets to the GRUB loader. If I do nothing, it hangs with a black screen just after it says that it is loading the kernel.
If I change the kernel commands to include the noacpi=apic or most other common fixes for what I have been told, USB, I get to the same place seemingly.
In reading through the forums and a little testing, I find that if I remove the splash and the quiet commands (obviously snicker), I am able to see where it is really stopping, but does not make sense to me.

There is nothing in the SYSLOG, MESSAGES or DMESG at all for this boot. I would assume that the system is not to a point where we can log this data
This is an AMD Phenom II x4 running 10.04 64bit Ubuntu. The USB connected device is an Avocent KVM 4 port with Audio and USB.

I just ran sudo aptitude update and sudo aptitude safe-upgrade. Now, the machine won't boot. It's a 64-bit system with two disks. Both show up in the bios, and I have tried booting from both. The boot process gets past the motherboard splash screen, then the grub countdown, and then it says: Boot from (hd0,0) ext3 [lots of numbers and letters] Starting up...
Then, this error messages appears, very briefly: Cannot reserve MMIO region and then the screen just goes dark.
A couple of weeks ago I installed a new 4-core Lenovo PC and installed Squeeze on it - keeping it updated every day. When kdm or gnome display the login screen, my USB-connected keyboard and mouse don't react. When I then unplug and re-attach them into the same socket everything ist fine. Surely this can't be working as intended? I can however get into BIOS-Setup as usual during the initial boot-phase by pressing Crtl-S and F1. Things also are fine when selecting the debian version to run from the multi-boot screen.
I am enclosing the kern.log of the last boot below (don't know how to attach files!). I had a normal OpenSuse 11.1 setup, along with Windows XP, swap partition and /home partition. After my hd began failing (badblocks), I cloned the system to a different location (using ddrescue), updated the hd with a new one (bigger), made new partitions on the new hd (preserving the old locations, ex: /dev/sda1 ext3 on old hd still is /dev/sda1 on new one, but made changes to the partitions sizes to make them bigger), recovered all the clones to the new hd, fsck'ed them, recovered grub with install dvd then tried to boot.
On the first boot, it failed to mount / (/dev/sda1) and gave me a command line. I checked /etc/fstab and saw that, on the old setup, it was mounting the partitions based on the HD-id, which obviously changed. I fixed that to use /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, etc. Now, the systems boots fine. But, when I get to the graphical login part, the keyboard and the mouse don't work. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook, now with a 320gb samsung hd.
I use the debootstrap to make a base Debian System of the ARM architecture for BananaPro [URL]... , and install the LXDE desktop. But the keyboard and mouse didn't response after the LXDE boot.
If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

I was working on something important in 11.2 and did a "zypper up" in the terminal in the background. I wasn't paying that much attention to it, I believe it was an update to 11.3. After returning to the computer after about one hour the windows were behaving strangely and the machine wasn't very responsive. I decided to reboot. Now at login I have neither mouse nor keyboard. I have switched the keyboard to PS2 model, no difference. If someone could help me with booting to run level 3 from the grub menu perhaps I could change some settings there to make everything work. I really regret doing the update. It would be very important for me to be able to get back in to machine with spending as little time as possible on this. Could I reverse the update? This machine is very important for me and my family for their daily communication, but currently I have very little time to fix this. My quick fix was to install Kubuntu 10.10 so I could resume working, but I would really need to get back in to 11.2.
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10,4 via update manager and now when I switch on, the boot process seems to work but when I arrived to the login page, I can't use mouse or keyboard. The system is not freezed because I can see the watch on the lower right running properly.
I recently updated from 8.10 to 10.4 by updating to 9.04 & 9.10 first. My problem is, everything seems to be booting normally but once the splash screen loads, it freezes and the keyboard and mouse both stop working. After the splash screen hangs for several minutes, the screen goes black. I am wondering if there is something I can do during the boot sequence to affect the process or if I could do something with a burnt copy of 10.4.
I cannot use several keys (1,`, q, a, z & Esc) on my keyboard.I have just installed Kubuntu 11.04, AMD64 version via Wubi. Everything went well w/o any errors. At 1st boot, I also logged in w/o errors, and then tried some apps for Office & Network and shut down. The keyboard was still alright at that time. However, The problem started on the 2nd boot after the installation. Those keys do not response in Kubuntu & Windows 7 login screen and even in my PC's BIOS setup.
My laptop model is Dell Lattitude E6410, core i5, Intel HD Graphics, WD HDD 160GB. And I installed on the other partition, not my Windows one.
I am being told I need to upgrade from 8.04 to at least 9.10 on another linux forum. I like KDE 3.5 and I CANNOT STAND KDE 4 I tried it like 3 or 4 times and I cant stand it... I tried that TRITON or whatever it is with 10.04 with kde 3 but it kept messing up like I would go to install updates it would say 83 updates but it only installed 7 anyways I said no to that and went back to 8.04 and I got the /! icon blaring at me saying hey idiot upgrade to 9.10. I mean I am doing fine on 8.04 I mean I got the latest thunderbird and updated pidgin to 2.7 I mean everything is up to date so its like why give it up? I am scared to go to 9.10 cause 3.5 will be gone and I will be stuck with KDE 4.0 ( the 1st version ) and I dont want that I want 3.5.
System was running fine under 8.04 but decided to update. The live CD works fine but after install, the Mouse and Keyboard stop working under 9.10. Even the keyboard power button is off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard or the mouse does not . AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 mouse
Everything else seems OK but how would I know without the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard turns off right before the first Ubuntu screen. The Numlock will go off and then nothing. Tried to run dpkg - fix broken packages after booting to repair. All I get is fail to fetch http: (whatever )Could not resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com. Update: Alt-F3 ... then Booting to terminal mode does not disable the keyboard.
I tried running Ubuntu Linux 9.10 on my computer directly from the CD, without installing, and when it had finished loading neither the keyboard nor the mouse would work. I got a message saying that restricted drivers had been blocked. I can't press what I think to be the unblock command because both the keyboard and mouse had been blocked.
I tried to do a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04, but when I get to the screen if I want to test or install Ubuntu, the keyboard and mouse (bluetooth) don't work. I tried to resync the peripherals, I disconnected usb connector base of the tower and putting it back but nothing works for me. I have a Logitech Desktop MX 5000 (Bluetooth).
