I burned the DVD image of ubuntu 10.10, it is supposed to contain many packages, but during installation it does not allow me to customise my packages, it just installed by itself after disk partitioning. When i boot into ubuntu and use ubuntu software center to choose software, it installed by downloading from website, which is slow. I choose the source as DVD, but why it does not search the DVD and installed?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was given a forensic Image which I now know is a DD image of the drive (Vista) and am trying to mount the image or extract the image to another drive. I'm not sure of the extention type or if the image is a partition or the entire drive. I think it is the entire drive.
Is it possible to mount a DD image to a device. If I can't do that I just want to extract the files to run some programs against the drive. Can I view the files under Ubuntu or do I have to remove the drive and stick it into a Vista computer.
I purchased a second drive today and was hoping the command line would be something simple.
Or am I on the wrong track, should I be doing this all in a windows environment. The reason I picked ubuntu was because of the reporting tools.

I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 WS on my PC but it did not see any disks to install on. I believe this is because my drives are all configured as RAID. My mobo is an Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI AM2+ socket with an Athlon 2X 5000+ CPU. The chipset is AMD 780G. I have the BIOS configured for RAID drives and I already run Win XP x32 and Win 7 x64 on it. My boot drive is configured as 'RAID READY' and I have 2 RAID 1 disks consisting of pairs of SATA drives.
From what I have researched it seems that with some tuning it should be possible to install Ubuntu 10.04 but I have little Linux experience and don't want to mess up my existing drives. I have installed Linux before a few times and run it but never with RAID. Is anyone aware of an existing disk image that I will be able to install from on my system or would it be possible for someone to create one for me to use?
Can any of you know this system or program I ask those who know that to give us some details about it
and how i can install them
Trying to install iso disk image of vers 10.10. does not seem to want to load from boot. used alcohol 120 for burn,which is usually very reliable.But install seems to stall early into load.

So i've been battling this for a while now, trying all sorts of different options and searching the boards before I finally decided to post this.I can't make CDs or DVDs, so my only option is to mount the downloaded ISO file on my laptop with CloneCD, then set up PXE DHCP,TFTP server. This method works on other distros but this one in particular is causing me problems in the installer.
So here's the process:I copy the files vmlinuz and initrd from the ooti386loader directory to my tftp root directory.on the system I am installing, i run gPXE, at the prompt type vmlinuz initrd=initrd.I have tried a large combination of different options {install=nfs after I have been having trouble which I will get to later.
the kernel loads, the installer starts. prompts for "Please make sure CD #1 is inserted" naturally, i hit back and select NFS as the install source. It then prompts me for DHCP configuration and the NFS server IP and directory.I'm running an NFS v3 server (haneWIN NFS to be specific) and exported the mounted ISO (this case F) as /suse.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso and placed it on a 16GB USB drive using the Windows LiveUSB creator which had downloaded when I first download Fedora 11.The USB boots fine and I choose the language and the the keyboard layout. I tell it the image is on the USB drive it displays /images/install.img as the image.
However after going through all the steps up to choosing where I want it throws an error saying cannot find image #1 on the hard disk.Now if I boot again and instead of choosing the USB drive I hit F2 and then choose the USB drive then /Images then the install.img and press O.K. it says it isn't and just cycles around the choose drive/image.
I have downloaded Fedora-15-x86_64-DVD.iso and try to install as usual:copy the isolinux directory from the image and boot with grub，but the installer doesn't let me select the media and connects and downloads from network directory. After waiting a long time,it reports the network not available, and ask me to select repo from NFS, DVD or http/ftp, still no local hard driver. Is this a new feature of F15?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to do a new install of OpenSUSE 11.2 x86-64 by burning a network install disk. I am having trouble getting it to work on my hardware however. Whenever I boot up with the disc, I get a "image checksum error." I have tried to redownload the image and also reburn it. The disc will boot in VirtualBox but will not boot on the machine. I do not understand what could be causing this because the CD drive in the machine is working just fine.
