View 9 Replies View RelatedI plan to make multi boot linux DVD, with help of SarduCD software, so, I have one question. configured Linux ISO image is not as I would like, I would like to change appearance and to add some softwares, in that way I will not have to change and install it every time I use live DVD in the future. I have now already installed 4 linux in one DVD but evey time I use it, I must change and install softwares, now I want to install on DVD the newest version of Ubuntu and Kubuntu, beside puppy and some other distros, and my question is: how to edit K/Ubuntu ISO image with aim that I don't need to change anything anymore after I burn it on DVD?
I suppose I should unpack and edit ISO image (add softwares and change appearance) and after that pack it again in ISO image. Maybe it is easier to burn Ubuntu to CD, to change and install what I want, into Live CD, and then to extract such Ubuntu to ISO image, then it would be ready to burn it together with other distros into DVD?
I've bought Earthworm Jim 1&2 from gog.com thinking that i could play it on my old Pentium 2 computer running DOS.
The problem is the game requires it's soundtrack CD, which is suplied by GOG in the form an ISO image with a .inst file that acts as some kind of header(just like a cue file is to a bin image). It contains details about the tracks. But i have no ideea how to burn it. Brasero will burn it, but it's unreadable. K3B doesn't seem to like it.
DOSBox has no problem mounting this type of image, and the game works fine after i've mounted the image.
So the question is, how should i burn this type of file(ISO Audio Image with .inst header)?
I'll also post the contents of the .inst file
Code:
FILE "EWJ1.gog" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
[Code]....
I need to learn a few things about CentOS so I decided to install it on my laptop, Windows 7 is already installed on it and there is no CD/DVD drive so I though that I could just create a new partition and mount the CentOS image and install it ... but I don't even see an .exe file so I guess this is not the right way to do it
(Yeah I'm a complete Linux noob, I know that CentOS is not the most user friendly OS but it's really the one I need to learn)
So what you should I do to install it this way ? (if it is really possible)
how to use linux, currently i am learning from the cbt nuggets videos, i have a old pc at home which has Red Hat installed on it, my question is how do i dual boot suse and red hat together ? i have red hat installed on a physical 40GB ide hard drive and i want to install suse on another 200gb hard drive which i have lying around. i am gonna have to install suse from an iso image i have, i dont have a dvd rom drive in the pc, so how would i go about installing it from an iso and also being able to dual boot between suse and red hat ?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi've decided that i wanna learn a bit of linux, and so i tried to install suse... i've come to have a lot of problems:i downloaded both the KDE Live CD and the DVD (4++ gb), both 64 bit.i dunno about the software there, but should i get the 32 bit version becouse is more likely they works or the 64 bit is fine?
what i'd like to do is overwrite my windows 7 (basically get rid of it, only way for me to use linux).i tried installing from Live CD (burned) but it does not seems to work, tried the USB thing but still something is wrong, is like is not recognized... i can't burn 4++ gb so i was wondering if there is a way to use the ISO w/o burning it... ofc i tried but in the boot menu it asks for a CD so nothing to do.
I am trying to install k3b software for burning cd/dvd. I am getting this error when i use ./configure command.
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.1 (20021021)) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
I think that i have Qt installed so where is the problem. I am using 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5 kernel.

I am a bit unsure of checking the iso download before burning to DVD.
'Checksums
Before you burn your CD/DVD images, you should check the files for errors. Two files named *.iso.md5 and *.iso.sha1 are available. These files contains hashes for each ISO image that is available from that download location. The relevant line would look like the following:
8abac6680ecc152f103006b02f9ff67f some.iso
To be sure that download did not contain any errors, you should create this number using MS5 or SHA1 algorithm for your own ISO image.
[edit]
Using Linux
On Linux, run one of the command,:
md5sum some.iso
sha1sum some.iso
If there is any difference between the output of the checksum command and the above number, the download is broken and should be repeated.'
Is some a linux command?
I assume it is run at the same location as the download?
I'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2 from iso image without burning it in a DVD.. because I don't have a CD or DVD drive.I'm using Windows Vista.firstly I mounted the dvd image .. but thought that was wrong because when rebooting instillation won't find the image.. is that true?so, I extracted it and I opened openSUSE11_2_ LOCAL.exe. and then reboot.. got two choices (Vista or install OpenSuse) and selected install OpenSuse but my screen went "out of range" !!

I downloaded the DVD ISO version of OpenSuSe version 11.2 64bit from openSUSE. I checked the iso file checksum after downloading and it was correct. However after burning to DVD i booted from the disc and started the install. After getting passed the initial settings and it starts to extract all of the packages each file fails the checksum and will not install. I tried downloading again on a different computer and burning again using UltraISO using the Disc-At-Once method, again checking the ISO file's checksum before burning.
It still gives the same errors. So i loaded windows and started the windows based install and my anti-virus (Kaspersky) says the disc is infected with a trojan. How can the disc be infected when the ISO file's checksum is correct?. The computer that i am using to burn the disc is virus free according to Kaspersky and Norton Technician Toolkit.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to burn Suse 11.2 to a DVD now for a couple of days but I keep running into trouble. When verifying a disk after burning Suse on it it keeps giving me errors. I've tried Nero and ImgBurn, different burners, different ISOs, different burning speeds (downloaded via torrent and http) but it keeps giving me the verification error.
The only thing I haven't tried is a different brand of DVDs but until now I've never had any problems with this brand.
So, my disc was out dated, so my friend let me use his, because it has TBC on it, and he also let me borrow lich king. I can't install The Burning Crusades, or even the original WoW from the battle chest disc. I get the error in the image.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to burn a installed system onto a dvd because of the size and run that from the cd-rom, I don`t mean running from a live cd. View 3 Replies View RelatedM$ 7 on my new laptop (one month out of warranty)has died. I have several iso files and several downloaded programs that I wish to put on DVDs before I do a restore. I have tried Slax, Kubuntu, and Mint from USB live boot. None of them will let me burn the files to DVDs. My largest USB stick is 4gig. K3b in Slax shows that I don't have enough temp file space, but will not let me use the hard drive for temp.
Options I am considering:
Getting a larger USB stick. Booting from CD and copying up to 4gigs at a time and moving it to my desk top. Resizing the ntfs partition to give me about 20-30gigs for installing Slackware. Buying an external hard drive and copy them to it. (starting to really like this one) Forgetting it and restore and spend many hours downloading them again. (Really would rather not) I can do any of these options, but want to see if there is an option I haven't considered.
I need to know where to look in Ubuntu to find the iso burning program. I normaly run slack and am not familiar with debian based systems, I have limited internet time
