Ubuntu :: Hybrid Graphics / Saying The File Can Not Be Found?
Jul 30, 2011
Ok so I have found the help doc in the ubuntu community spot and it says to run the following command,
Code:
grep -i switcheroo /boot/config-2.6.*
And I do that and nothing happend, so i though ok maybe i missed something and moved to the next step to see if the switch file is there and I do,
Code:
ls -l /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
Says the file can not be found, and according to the post on the community help spot VGA_Swicheroo is not enabled, well my problem is how do i enable it and use it?
I am using dell XPS with hybrid graphics. Intel integrated graphics card and NVIDIA. I have installed both Ubuntu, Windows 7 and opensuse in it. Ubuntu and Windows comes up. But Opensuse after showing some boot messages goes blank and nothing comes up. I am using OpenSuse 11.4.
I'm on an HP envy with with hybrid graphics configuration. I installed debian 7.7 from DVD, but it failed to load i915 driver on its own. It loaded nouveau. But gnome falls back to classic mode. There is not brightness control either.I tried adding i915 to /etc/modules and also blacklisted nouveau at the command line. Now i915 gets loaded, but with some hickups as shown in dmesg. Still I'm in fallback mode in gnome.
So I went ahead and added intel_agp (before i915 line) to modules file, but still no luck. I suspect there is no module called intel_agp at the first place, because :
Code: Select alljay@aura-envy:~$ sudo modinfo intel_agp [sudo] password for jay: ERROR: Module intel_agp not found. URL....
I'm running a hybrid graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6630m) so naturally I'd like to have full functionality between the two.
Here's what I've done so far: Downloaded the .run file from AMD's website Built packages for both AMD and Intel side of the card Unpackaged said packages
I used ATI Catalyst's GUI to install (in hindsight terminal might have been better and more informative) and it is now saying
After installation of the generated package, it is important to save your X Window configuration file, and then run 'aticonfig --initial' (in a console window) to complete the basic configuration, please run aticonfig from a console window or AMD CCC:LE from the Desktop Manager Menu
So how and why do i save my X Window config and when I give the aticonfig command it says no adapters detected
I have a Dell Vostro 3300, i5 460 processor with a NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card. I'm doing a KUBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) install with the following results. The Live CD boots just fine to, "TEST," or "Install." Installation goes fine. However, the graphics card being used is the Intel i915. I have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers directly from the, "Additional Drivers," tool and after the reboot I get through the boot screen to the console. I try to manually startx and I get the errors, "no device found," "no screens found." The second install I tried purging and blacklisting the nouveau drivers and entering safe mode. Then using apt-get install nvidia-current. After that, nvidia-xconfig. Same results.
The third attempt I re-installed and this time downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia site (version 256.53). Blacklisted nouveau, remove all nvidia, updated initramfs, etc. The install went fine however I still end up at a console after boot with the same messages as above. No device found, no screens found. I've tried searching through the forum and web and have tried things like adding the modset option along with many other hacks, tips and fixes. still, no go.I can live with the Intel graphics for now although I lose 512MB of memory. Unfortunately there is no way to disable or change this set-up in the BIOS. I've seen quite a few bug reports at Launchpad:
1. Is this something I should just wait til a fix comes? Will a fix come? 2. Is there, or will there be an official Updated Ubuntu Guide for Maverick to install NVIDIA drivers with this tecnology? 3. Lastly, is there anything else I should try??
Basically when I first got Ubuntu I could go into Additional Drivers and enable the graphics, which would help alot with everything. However, just recently I think I accedently removed something in the system and now it's not in the list and i have no graphics enabled. Are there a few things I can do to try fix this
I've ran the Hardware Drivers, as sound is not there at all, and video is on low graphics and colors are awful....... It's found nothing, so I've gone to the ECS Website and got the names of both.Graphics: Integrated Chrome9 HC IGP Share Memory: Maximum up to 256MBAudio: VIA VT1708A 6-channel High Definition audio CODECI'm running the P4M900T-M2 (V1.0) motherboard.Linux is 10.4 Lucid
I'm using an Intel Q45 graphic card, VGA and HDMI. I have two monitors and both work with Win7, splitting nicely. However in Suse it doesn't find the second monitor, the one on the HDMI port. However Suse does find that there is a HDMI port it could use. It's just not set up to have a screen attached to it.Xinerama won't work. I tried it despite the fact that it shouldn't I have tried numerous xorg.conf setting according to a number of sites that were very helpful and very thorough. I tried to modify their advice but it simply didn't work out for me.It seems like the screen is simply not acknowledged within the system for some reason. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.2 with KDE4.4, factory and my other systems pick up the screen without a hitch. My home system did the same with a HDMI connection so if anyone can point me in the right direction or even better
I recently did a reinstall on my system and I am now running Squeeze. I am currently trying to get some software running, but I believe I am having issues with the graphics requirements. The software needs an X server with 8 bit / PseudoColor mode. It is recommended to work in "8,24"-overlay mode. This was set up on my old install on this computer, so I know it is not a problem with my graphics card. But in the installation guide it says to enable this function it is necessary to add some information in the file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. The problem is I don't have this file. I had this file in my old install, but on the fresh install it is not there. I have the /etc/X11/ directory, and it contains: directories: app-defaults, applnk, cursors, fonts, twm, xinit, xkb, Xreset.d, Xresources, Xsession.d
I think I've looked through everything in the /etc/X11/ directory but I don't see anything that looks like the XF86Config-4 file. Is there possibly a package that I am missing or something I need to run to create this file? I know on my old install this file was created or modified by running 'xf86config' in the command line. I've tried that, but it tells me 'command not found'.
When attempting to use my ircd, I am receiving the following message in irrsi:
Code: -!- Irssi: Looking up 127.0.0.1 -!- Irssi: Connecting to 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1] port 6667 -!- Irssi: Connection to 127.0.0.1 established -!- Irssi: !hybrid7.debian.local *** Looking up your hostname...
I've been trying very unsuccessfully to get lm-sensors to work with my Asus P7P55D-E Deluxe Hybrid motherboard. It sports an Intel i7 Quadcore processor. Here is a link to everything that is in the computer:[URL]..Pretty much I'd like to do the sensors and get the turbo-v working. Does anyone know how to do this? The important thing is the sensors. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (10.4 had to many bugs at present).
I can not get my usb dvb-t sick working. It is a hauppauge WinTV-HVR 900 hybrid TV stick. The number on the backside is: M/R: 65018/BC20 Some time ago I read somewhere that this model was supposed to work with ubuntu 9.10. [URL] it is possible to make it work since the poster appears to be using the same model as I do.But I still have trouble setting it up.
when i wget aro2220.com it displays --2011-03-02 16:35:58-- url... 127.0.1.1 Connecting to aro2220.com|127.0.1.1|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: 177 [text/html] Saving to: 'index.html' 100% 2011-03-02 16:35:58 (12.4 MB/s) - 'index.html' saved [177/177]
However, when I look into the file it is actually blank saying something like "It works! This is the default web page for this server" which can't be correct since that is not what Aro2220.com actually displays.
Furthermore, when I try to wget files I've put on the server for myself it returns a 404, file not found.
I installed mythbuntu 9.10 this week on some old hardware, I had a Hauppauge 500MCE PVR in and made it work fairly easy. I'm used to gentoo
However, I want to record HD signal, so I plugged in a Eyetv hybrid and followed this guide url.
I extracted the driver, put it in into /lib/firmware, modprobed em28xx, rebooted. When I plug in the device, it is not recognised. I tried both usb ports. The ID is "0fd9:0018", which is somewhat different from similar hardware e.g. Hauppauge wintv-hvr-950 (ID 2040:6513 url.
I think the hardware has been updated, hope someone knows how to crack this one
I have added some additional information below! # uname -a

I am currently trying to make a Lifeview Hybrid flyDVB-t tv tuner work on Ubuntu Lucid. The problem is that I can't even see it on the lspci output, here it is:

I don't know what else to do, and I've been looking for a lot of time online.
Does anybody use USB HDTV (digital or hybrid) tuner ?
1) does teletext work in digital TV ? - Do teletext pages appear immediately after page numbers entering or - must you wait every time because of counter rewinding ?
2) Does analog FM radio (88 - 108 MHz) work in that kind tuners ?
when i start uubuntu it automatically goes to tty with out letting me login. then when i press startx it says:
NVIDIA: failed to initialize the nvidia graphics device pci:0:13:0 nvidia: please check your systems kernal log for additional erroe nvidia: messages and refer to chapter 8 nvidia: failed to initialize the nvidia graphics device! nvidia: screen found, but none have a usable configuration fatal screen error: no screen found
right before this i had activated a nvidia graphics device
I've got a task: make time server, that gets time from gps, shows it on display and send to different systems through different ports like com, ltp, etc.
Solution is qt program, included in hybrid iso image.
I've created my binary-hybrid.iso debian, added my program and installed it on pc sudo dd if=/media/cdrom/binary-hybrid.iso of=/dev/sda then i restarted and everything is ok, but...
I also need: 1) to make my pc works as ntp-server, to do this i must change file ntp.conf in ntp****.deb before i build my iso how can i do this?
as i realized according to live.debian.net/manual it's possible to do by putting smth to /live-build/config/packages.chroot and by adding some parameters to lb config but i can't find how and what
2) to save my program parameters after reboot. for example, i have such parameter as gmt. it defined as +3. i can change it while program is running to -5 for example and i want to have gmt -5 when i next time turn on my computer
When in programming it is simple - program creates ini file in it's directory and read/write parameters from this ini-file, but how to make possible to do the same thing when it works from iso?
installed a couple of apps, and then by accident removed one. The problem is he was looking about in all the sections, and he cant remember what section it was from let alone what he removed. Now when the laptop boots it shows xsplash then goes to a dialog screen which says :-
(EE) open /dev/fb0:no such file or directory
When I click <OK> I get a small menu with Run ubuntu in low-graphics mode Reconfigure graphics Troubleshoot Exit to console Reconfigure does no good, but I can get logged in to text install. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 3630 and uses SiS graphics.
I'm brand new to Ubuntu, and am having a small problem. I'm trying to run a graphics card driver instillation, but whenever I run the file, it says that it has to run as a root. How do I run the file as a root? The graphics card I have is an Nvidia 8800GTM.
I have an AverTV Hybrid Volar MAX.I really would like to get the FM radio tuner working with this on my laptop. When I do 'sudo fmscan' I get the following:ioctl VIDIOCGTUNER: Invalid argumentI have downloaded and installed the drivers from AverMedia's web page (TV is working). This is on a Compaq Laptop (Presario V5305WM) on a fresh install of Jaunty.
Ive been trying to set up an irc server for the past couple of days. It works, but I havent been able to work out how to configure hybserv as well as server admins and ops, etc. Does anybody know of a good tutorial on how to configure ircd-hybrid with services? The endlessly long config file is just too confusing for me.
I have a Rackspace server running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, where I have installed an IRCd-Hybrid. I can connect to the IRC server using irssi that was installed on the same machine where the server is, but when I try to access it from my computer at home or my friends try I get this error:
I am also new to ubuntu but have manage so far, except for my tv-card. Seems like Metv and kaffeine cant see the tv-card ?! I have a asus mycinema-p7131 hybrid, does someone have info on installing this ? except for this i think ubuntu 10 is great.
On both Karmic Koala as well as Lucid Lynx, I am having massive problems getting my nvidia card to register properly. I am on an Acer Aspire 5953 laptop pc with a Gt130m discrete GPU in a hybrid installation with an onboard GPU.Freshly installed, both 9.10 and 10.04 runs smoothly, I can enable desktop effects, I can even see the screensavers that run openGL - although they run laggily in fullscreen, since they're obviously using the onboard, and very weak, GPU.The problem however, appears whenever I install the suggested NVIDIA drivers that Ubuntu finds for me - after doing this, I am asked to reboot the system and on both systems, I am treated to a black screen, instead of a login-screen. The only way to get the system up and running again, I have found, is boot in fail safe mode and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, erasing everything. This lets me boot back up in a regular mode.
When I check the logs, both the onboard GPU and the gt130m GPU is located, the onboard as PCI:0:0:2:0 and the nvidia gt130m discrete gpu as PCI:0:1:0:0 - I have tried adding BusID: ("PCI:0:1:0:0") to the xorg.conf, too, to no avail. I am continously treated to the black screen (a flicker at most) and the logs always tells me that no xserver could find no screens. So far, I have only been installing Ubuntu inside windows - I am hesitating to install on a fresh drive, since I am afraid of the nvidia black screen putting me in a position where I can't access the system. Is it possible that the fact that I install ubuntu inside windows might somehow affect Linux's capability of accessing my discrete GPU?
I want to insert graphics into latex file, for longtime I used xfig to create graphs, but it is limited, specially for math formulas, dia i find not easy to use. Finally I want to try asymptote or tikz which one is more appropriate
I have an EEEPC and wanty to make use of the ASUS SHE. However, I don't want a program that automatically changes performnce modes each time I go to AC or battery power (Jupiter). Jupiter also causes lag when I suspend the EEEPC pr when I plug in the AC adapter. I pretty often work on battery when I'm at home and I don't need powersavings then. I want a way to be able to turn on the power saving mode (I've heart it does more then just undercloaking the processor) whenever I want, but I don't want those modes to be changed automatically.
I am having trouble getting my USB-Dvb-Analog-Hybrid-TV-Card running with openSuse 11.1. (I already tried a lot of instructions I found on the net but none of them worked.) For example, when I try to install em28xx-new, compiling will work, but when modprobeing:
