For Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2.
I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?

I am running CentOS 5.3, Gnome Panel 2.16.1. It seems some KDE applications just flash crazily in the windows list (task bar in Gnome panel). Usually when a new event happens to a window, it flashes to remind the user (I hate this *feature* anyway, but can't disable it...) But this time, when I switch from another workspace to the workspace that has (more than one) KDE applications (like kile and kdvi), they just simply start to flash, and the flashing window list appears on every workspace unless you click it.
I tried to disable the animation from gconf-editor, without success. Does anyone have similar issues? It is really annoying..

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed and have discovered that menu.lst has gone with grub2 and I now have to do something incomprehensible in grub.dI have dual boot with XP and I want to put Windows XP as the default and first boot option (not the last as it is now).
Could someone be so kind as to show me a complete idiot's step-by-step guide of how to move XP to the first in the list.Ubuntu will not connect to the Internet. It always did before Lucid Lynx but not now - See:URL...My easy option is to remove Ubuntu altogether but having used it extensively since Hardy Heron (I think) I live in the faint hope that it will once again become a shining beacon of excellence it once was and not just a waste of space on my hard drive.

Downloaded Ubuntu to try it out. It currently dual boots with with Windows XP on my Dell. Everything seemed to be going fine, until this problem: I started tweaking the panel (with the shortcuts). Put on the bottom with the Auto hide feature enabled. As soon as it hid, the bottom panel start glitching out, and this was followed by the desktop freezing. My media player continued to play and mouse was still moving, but I couldn't do anything. Had to manually shut down the computer. Turned it on and logged in - same problem. I think creating a new account by logging as "root" would fix this, but I have alot of preferences set up, passwords saved, etc on my account.

I've had this problem before in Ubuntu but I don't remember how I fixed it. I have buttons for the open applications on the bottom panel. If I move from one to the other with the mouse, the button highlight doesn't follow. I have to go out of the panel and back in to a different button. I removed and reinstalled the applet to no effect.

This seems like it should be simple to do. I have a fresh F13 install running Gnome, and the gnome panel is on the left-hand side of the monitor. I want it on the righthand side. So far I have been unable to achieve this. I can't drag the panel (even with ALT held down), and if I try to set orientation to "Right" it changes back the "Left" again

I decided to persist with Unity having spent until today launching in an Ubuntu Classic session. The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. This may be fine for netbooks but not my laptop.I just launched Tomboy, which startde with its window in the bottom right of the screen, however to get to the programs menu I have to move the cursor all the way to the top right of the screen - miles.

I right clicked on the panel and clicked "New Panel". This actually did nothing the first few times. Eventually it produced a panel on the right side of the screen. When I tried to alt+drag it to move it to my other screen, it won't move. The top and bottom panel do move appropriately.

This question concerns the system panel/launcher panel / the panel with the launcher that normally appears across the top or bottom of the screen. The default system panel layout was nice, but, I screwed it up by accidentally deleting the task manager. I put the task manager back but now my clock & system tray are to the left of the task manager, and, I can't just drag things around. Is there a trick to organizing the widgets on this panel or is it broken? Every time I try to move something, it basically ignores me and adds it to the right of everything else.

I have run a command which finds a lot of files based on some search criteria. It returns the files like so:
./somepath/somepath/file.something
./asdf/asdf/s.php
./etc/a.php
./a/b/c/d/e/f/g.jpg
So I was wondering, if I capture this output into a file (ie. one file per line), can anyone help me write a command which iterates through the file and moves the files one by one to a specified directory?

I don't know if this is a known issue, but when I want to copy/move a file to a folder containing lots of sub-folder displayed as list, I can't do a simple drag&drop, because there is no empty space to move this file. It will always go into one of the sub-folders. So obviously I have to go up one folder or to change view from list to Icon or Compact. Is it a known issue? Is there a solution? (Using GNOME nautilus 2.30.1)

I'm using squeeze and the xserver-xorg-core, kdebase and kdm packages with their dependencies in addition to the base system installation. I get glitches when I try to drag the icons on the panel: I can't move them properly and occasionally the whole screen gets redrawn (by this I mean it goes black and gets back several seconds later.) and gives an error with signal 11 (segmentation fault). The problem is not specific to my user account, because I tried it with a newly created user, and I didn't do any configuration on mine either. I also experienced other glitches, about which I made some screenshots: [URL]

I'm sure I've done this before and am having a brain fart.
I have run into this a couple of time this last month:
I have a list of torrent files (blahblahhexblah.torrent) saved in a text file. I would like to read the text file and populate the client directory.
I can echo the file using:
But I cannot remember how to pipe the output into the directory, nor can I find any resources that describe the process.
Interestingly enough, I've had a couple of opportunities to do similar tasks with passwords and privileges and even across the LAN in the last few days. Solving this problem will help me solve the others for next time.

I am in the process of customizing my desktop, and I have run into a problem. As a programmer, I will invariable end up with tons of windows open. I would like to expand the gnome-panel's Window List's y size to allow more applications to show without being crunched together.
That's the way the desktop currently looks, notice the tiny Window List in the top left. That's as big as it gets. I want to expand it all along the entire left side. I have a feeling the answer is in gconf-editor, but i just can't find the right field to modify.
