I accidentally erased my "panel" and now I cannot minimize windows however they remain open. I have a down arrow, an X and a - on the top of my pages when I hit the - the page disappears but still stays active, example im on ..... and I hit that expecting to minimize but the page closes and I cannot retrieve it but whatever I was viewing continues to play. when I hit the down arrow the page just kinda shuffles to a different side of the screen and is basically useless.
Posted this in the wrong section so I'm reposting it, is that ok? I installed lxde and logged out and switched to it, but my internet wasn't working (but that's a different thread after I fix this, I was going to try installing wicd) So I tried to go back to gnome, I misclicked and accidentally started a different session. I think it said openbox/gnome, all I get is a blank screen with just the desktop background. It's set to automatically log me in, so when I restart my computer it goes back to the blank screen. How do I get back to the login screen?
I'm using LXDE and everything has been fine up until yesterday something strange happened. My panel no longer stays on top of everything. Whatever window I have open when dragged will be over it. I want the panel to go back to how it was but none of the settings seem to fix the problem. I went into the panel settings and I tried reserve space and the dock panel option but to no avail. how to restore it to being on top of everything?
Since I installed Maverick, I've had trouble with Chrome and Firefox tabs. When I click a link, sometimes (50-60% of the time) the link opens in a new tab. When I click on tabs, again 50-60% of the time, they close. It's been happening since I installed Maverick, and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when I get a new tab or a tab closes. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running 64bit Maverick with an Nvidia card.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. In Google Chrome (7.0.517.41 beta), Firefox (3.6.11) and Opera (10.63), links are not highlighting properly after clicking them. Either there is no difference, or they are so similar in colour as to be almost indistinguishable (dark blue and slightly darker blue).
I am running 10.10 and I can't figure out how to move or remove the windows list... all other items I can select and move or remove normally. also, if I try and start "panel" from the menu it starts to open but then quits.
I'm running Fedora 11 64bit on an Acer Aspire 3935, dual boot with Windows Vista. I installed three days ago and the system is supposedly fully updated. While doing some routine configuring I noticed that I am unable to access the Preference window of File Management.
I want to check the box for 'always open in browser windows', but therefore I need the Preference window. When I try to access through System > Preferences > File Management, it says starting for a few seconds and then nothing. When I try to access through Computer > Edit > Preferences, the window crashes and disappears. I suppose there are other ways to change that setting, but in any case I'd like to get the general problem solved, not only the setting changed.
I'm trying to find a way to make my Windows key the shortcut to opening my start panel in Lubuntu. I've found easy instructions for Ubuntu, but Lubuntu doesn't have the keyboard shortcuts utility that Ubuntu has (at least I can't find it).
I found some instructions for editing a config file but I can't find the command for opening the panel, and I've seen conflicting information about how the Windows key is written (some say W, some say Super_L), so I hesitate to start playing around with that file when I'm only guessing.
I instaled Ubuntu a recently and have been trying it out (my first attemt to use Linux OS) So I was playing around with Desktop panels and I'll say I'm very impressed with all the crap you can put on it. So of course I deleted the default ones and created my own one. The problem is this: I found all the things i need using 'Add to panel' but my panel won't show the open applications on it . Can some1 tell me how can i add this to my own panel (or at least bring back the default panels)?
i just updated from karmic 9.10 to lucid 10.04 using the online upgrade option. so far everything is working great. the only issues i am having seem to involve firefox. when i visit videos i get the message "your browser is no longer supported. please upgrade to a modern browser." i am running 3.6 "canonical" so it is "modern". i am able to watch videos after i close the message. it's just an annoyance to get this message every time i view a video.
next, is on some websites (like this one) it will not supply my login info. but on a few sites (like ebay) it does supply my login info. not sure why some sites work while others don't. the info is there when i look under my saved passwords....
When I installed Ubuntu, I had two panels. The first one has application, places, system, shortcuts and time. The second one had all of my icons and when I minimized an app, I could access it off of the second panel.I have closed this second panel and don't know how to restart it. Now when I minimize an app (eg browser), I have to press alt-tab and toggle through the open apps until I get to the one I need
Machine: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, AMD64i have accidentally deleted menu on the default panel. now there is onlyFirefox icon on the panel.hoe do I restore the default panel
This morning a box that listed my wireless router came up. I usually click cancel and every thing is okay. Early this morning I clicked Delet. and now I have no wireless. In fact when I click on the wireless icon none of the neighbors routers show up.
I accidentally removed network and sound icon from top panel. Is there any way how to put it back? I've read several howtos that I've to add notification area but it doesn't really work.I know that if I delete this user and create a new one the icons will be there again but I'd like to do it cleaner way. This is how it should look like (untouched user account):And this is what I've done :-/Network icon is missing in both accounts (removed by accident while trying to remove something else :-/ in user "tata" it at least shows sound button.
I accidentally removed the sound menu from my panel bar in Ubuntu 10.10. I did manage to find some solutions to get the sound volume applet in place, like it was in previous Ubuntu versions, but I do obviously prefer the new sound menu in place. Does anybody know how I can get it working again?
I am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.
I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.
I installed 11.2 Gnome 32 bit version and I notice that when I insert a USB stick (8G) that it either will not open, or it takes several minutes; on another distro, the same stick is instantly recognised, and a window opens immediately; I went back and booted up the liveCD; I notice now the liveCD does this too; (I now see a window has opened from the USB stick after about 3mins); is there some way I can investigate; or describe this behaviour of the system ?
I have accidentally remove dbus which concludes removing everything including graphic-manager desktop and network manager. after removal system automatically rebooted and i only have command prompt to work with. Now i have no desktop and no network connections.
As i have lost network connections i can't apt-get any packages. so please help me with the solution?
I accidentally removed messaging menu icon from gnome panel, and I can't put it back. I found this: [URL], but it doesn't say how to put the icon back on the panel.
While screwing around with my settings trying to get 11.3 setup the way I wanted it, I accidentally removed the portion of the bottom panel which displayed the titles for all the current open windows....and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it back. Can anyone tell me how to add it again? I'm sure its something incredible simple, but I haven't been able to find it
I have successfully mounted windows shares in to ubuntu and can able to access the folders from nautilus. But i wanted to open the mounted share folders from the "open file browser(select a file dialog)" in DeVeDe app. I have tried all the options, and nothing worked out.
I have been running Ubuntu desktop on my Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 for over a year now in one form or another. I originally dual booted XP and Ubuntu Netbook Remix but decided against the remix when I did a clean install (over a year ago). All the issues I had then were the same issues others were having and have been fixed for a long time. I just recently upgraded to 10.10. I am unsure if this problem was present prior to the upgrade and I just hadn't run across it yet. I am also getting ready to upgrade my desktop and am afraid I will have the same issues.
It seems that certain windows don't fit on this desktop. For instance when I open Compiz config settings manager the bottom of the window is below the screen. When I try to click an option the window jumps and the same thing happens to the top. I can also click anywhere on the window to make this happen. I have included a couple pictures (taken with my camera please forgive the quality) to show you exactly what it is doing. It is getting rather annoying when I try to open one thing and the other right above or below it opens instead. I have to place my pointer in the spot where the item I am selecting will be after it jumps in order to open what I mean to open. When I right click it gives me options as if I was right clicking on the desktop background. The other issue which seems to be related is not being able to get to certain parts of longer windows such as Gnome color chooser. It seems to run off screen as well.
I have 350GB external Western Digital USB hard Drive. When I try to remove it from the system by executing Safely Remove Drive menu the fedora 15 system gets stuck. The processor starts giving a hum sound and it goes on even if it is left for half an hour in the stuck state. The Mouse is not working and everything is halted.
I accidentally changed my user permission while setting up a new user account and am now unable to access the "system" on the panel to change things back. I've just spent hours setting everything up and downloading and hope that I don't have to go through all of that again.
I don't know but just one day after I restarted my ubuntu 10.10 pc. Probably after an update. Dropbox no longer shows up in the top panel. I also had a thing called googsystray, that no longer shows up either. I can see the process dropbox is running.
Before upgrading to Natty I used to have a Banshee icon in my panel when the application was open - I could close the program but it would just minimize to the panel. Now when I open Banshee there is no icon in the panel. I checked the preferences menu to see if I could change this setting, but didn't see anything there.
