So now when the application is full screen there's no close button on the tab as found on the default install of Netbook Remix.I have gone into the ~/.gnome/apps/panel and backed up the configuration files to see if forcing the default would work or not

Ubuntu :: Increase Gnome-panel Window List Size?

Oct 7, 2010

I am in the process of customizing my desktop, and I have run into a problem. As a programmer, I will invariable end up with tons of windows open. I would like to expand the gnome-panel's Window List's y size to allow more applications to show without being crunched together.

That's the way the desktop currently looks, notice the tiny Window List in the top left. That's as big as it gets. I want to expand it all along the entire left side. I have a feeling the answer is in gconf-editor, but i just can't find the right field to modify.

Ubuntu :: 9.10 Window List Applet Not Raising Window?

Feb 19, 2010

Fresh install of 9.10 shows buggy behavior for the 'Window List Applet' in the gtk panel.

Usually, clicking on a button in the window list applet does nothing at all. It doesn't un-minimise it, set focus to the window, or bring it to the front.

In 8.10, the window was always raised immediately and given focus.

Sometimes it works, but I've not figured out the state in which it does. I currently have 10 windows open, clicking through them all in the window list raises most of them, but on some nothing happens.

Modifying the 'Window List Preferences' dialog does nothing to fix the problem.

I have checked System->Windows->Window Selection to 'Select windows when mouse moves over them'. 'Raise selected windows after an interval' is not selected.

I was messing around with my monitor settings in Ubuntu 10.04 [The first time when everything worked right away with my system!], and I stupidly deleted all the applets in the upper panel, and now I can't find them anymore. I looked though the applet selection screen, and I couldn't find the sound applet, the all-in-one power off/log out/switch user applet, or the email/chat applet. Ubuntu :: Lost Gnome Panel Transparency On Upgrade To 10.04

Jul 25, 2010

I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and things went pretty smooth. The only real issue is that I lost the transparency settings for the menu & indicator applets on my top knome panel. I simply don't remember how i did it last time, and i've been searching the net for an hour for a solution with no luck. Many results suggested the use of the Compiz Settings Manager's opacity settings, but that opacity applies to everything, including the text & icons. I thought i used the "gnome color chooser" package to do it last time, but I cannot find the option in the gui. how to make the background of the menu (applications/places/system) and indicator applet have transparent backgrounds while retaining full text/icon brightness?

Ubuntu Installation :: Panel Transparency Is Lost On Restart?

May 2, 2011

I have had no issue with the panel's transparency in previous Ubuntu versions. This all started w/ Natty. I set up transparency (right click on panel, Nav through Properties > Background, Check "Solid Color," slide bar to my preferred opacity, & click "Close." The panel looks as follows: But when I restart the computer it goes grey:

killall command doesn't work, I have moved the panel, I have created a new one. The "closest" I found were people complaining (back in December) that the theme switched to grey. But I don't think the panel is taking up another theme, it is simply not painting the transparent image.

I didn't like Unity so I disabled it (still installed). I also removed indicator-me and indicator-messenger via synaptic as I have since Lucid Lynx. I removed the black bubble notifications and removed the shutdown/logout/restart confirmation/countdown prompt w/ a couple of code-hacks I found online as I have since Jaunty Jackalope. I also tried to change the opacity though an option inside Compiz's "Opacity, Brightness and Saturation". This also made AWN icons transparent so I undid it. I use the "Glossy P" theme w/ "Snow Apple" icons.

Tried to enable the desktop cube, and with that automatically disabling the desktop cube. And bang, no more window frames.. I tried with GTK window decorator and with emerald. It doesn't make any difference. Now I am running meta-city and emerald without any desktop effects.

Ubuntu :: Lost Window Decoration And Other Settings

Sep 1, 2011

I'm using ubuntu classic on 11.04 (that's not the foolish part). I was tidying up my main menu with the Edit Menu application, and deleted all of the hidden items in the Applications submenu 'Other', including things like Compiz, Metacity, Open Folder, Window Manager.I had believed that this would have no effect on the operation of anything; only upon what was listed in the menu, but the effects seem to have been quite severe and wide-ranging.Now, at reboot, there is no background image, cursor, or windows decorator (I have to get a terminal window open and run compiz --replace), and I cannot open locations from the places Menu (I get an error telling me that no application is registered as handling this file). There are probably other consequences I have yet to discover.

The desktop.configuration files for the 'Other' menu items are still present in Usr/Share/Applications directory. Is there a way that I can restore things to the way they worked before I deleted these Menu items? It would be an enormous help in my predicament.

OpenSUSE :: Panel Lost From Fresh KDE Desktop?

In the course of modifying the desktop icons, this was deleted. I have looked, searched, Google'd etc, to find a process to restore this transparent folder. No luck so far. I have placed the icons back, all works correctly, though I would like to know how to recreate this transparent rectangular panel. Ubuntu :: Window Effects Lost After Logout/in And No Titlebars

May 11, 2010

After upgrading from 9.10 karmic to 10.04 lucid, the windows of applications have no titlebars and I cannot move or resize them. Also if I have System, Preferences, Apprearance, Visual Effects, set to normal or extra the settings are lost after a logout/in or reboot. I have another user login and the Vishual Effects settings are remembered with it, but with my main more priviledged user, they are not. I sort of got around the problem by adding compiz to Startup Applications, but that only allows the Titlebars to show at at Normal or Extra settings in Appearance, Vishual Effects. It is reset to Normal or Extra when I select None before logging out/in. Should there be a part of compiz that starts even when none Vishual Effects is selected? (to show titlebars etc) Where is the configuration file that is meant to start compiz per user? I don't think Startup Applications settings properly deal with it.
