I have a very annoying problem. I cannot move any panel items to the upper right hand corner... But I can move them to any other panel, right or left.I right click the item. Then I click Move. Then I click the upper right hand corner. Then nothing happens, except if there is a group of buttons side-by-side then the right-clicked item will move to the far right of the group

Ubuntu :: Panel Applet - If Right-click Doesn't Include Move - How To Move That Icon

Sep 19, 2010

For Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2.

I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.

HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:

- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.

- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.

How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?

Ubuntu :: Panel Items Rearrange Themselves

Jul 3, 2010

I have a bit of a minor niggle with ubuntu 10.04. The items in my top panel seem to rearrange themselves at random whenever i logout and then log back in again. For example, i normally have indicator applett session in the top right hand corner of my screen, but if i logout and log back in again it has occasionally jumped across to the left of the active panel items.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dragging And Dropping To Move Items From One Folder To Another Does Not Work?

Mar 17, 2010

I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) as a headless workstation, running a VNC screen. Worked perfectly for about 3 weeks, then suddenly, I lost the Drag and Drop capability, for all applications. For example: Dragging and dropping to move items on the desktop does not work. The item simply pops back to the original location. Dragging and dropping to move items from one folder to another does not work. Same behavior -- the item just pops back to the original location. Dragging and dropping Bookmarks in Firefox does not work. The attempted Drag and Drop is ignored. Copy and paste still works fine. The problem does NOT occur when using an attached monitor (primary display screen :0).After much Googling (including these forums), I suspected that the changed behavior was caused by an update (from Ubuntu Update Manager). I confirmed this with the following:Reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 fresh from the live cd.Configured minimal networking and installed VNC server.Tested Drag and drop -- works okayApplied pending updates (116) from Ubuntu Update ManagerTested Drag and drop -- not workingI am using vnc4server and openssh-server installed from the repositories using Synaptic.

Ubuntu :: Items In Xfce Panel Are Disappearing

Apr 1, 2010

Items in my xfce panel are disappearing. First it was the networkmanager launcher which disappeared in xfce but still appeared when I used GNOME, then it disappeared in GNOME. My "x updates are available" icon and volume control icons are also gone, and just now my entire "applications" drop down menu disappeared. I frequently use xmonad so I know all the /bin/ commands for critical programs, but this is really annoying. Also, my desktop keeps changing back to a certain image without me changing it. If I was on windows I would think I had a virus. Maybe I dowlnoaded some bad games I was trying to play in wine? xubuntu 9.10, not updated for a little while since the icon disappeared, Thinkpad T61...

Ubuntu :: Shortening The Width Of Items On The (start) Panel

Jun 10, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and on my laptop I'm finding it very inconvenient to manage multiple running application interfaces and windows because of my screen being so small. Between the whole Applications, Places, System menus and system tray I don't really have much room to work with. I know thats why Ubuntu's Gnome environment comes with two pannels, but again, I need all the screen space I have and shortening my view of my windows would be counter-productive thats why I'm only using one. So my base question is: Is there a way to shorten the width of the minimized windows to a more manageable size, and how? I would also be fine with just an icon for the indicators instead of the text.

I was playing around with the default panel that has the power icon (wrong lingo maybe) and the network/sound icons, etc.I deleted some items including the power icon and now for the life of me can't find it in the panel applets list in lubuntu. Is there a way to restore the default panel with the settings as when I first installed lubuntu.I also played with some spacings and other settings so would rather just get it back to normal/restore it vs add all the items back on and then play with the spacings again.

Fedora Installation :: FC12 New Install / Top Menu Panel Missing Items

Mar 7, 2010

First off, I have spent several hours searching this and other forums looking for an answer to this, and have tried several things, none of which have fixed this issue. Here is what I'm seeing:I performed a new install of FC12 on a Thinkpad R40, 512Mb RAM, with a 40Gb HDD, 38Gb useable, from a live CD. That leaves a little over 9Gb free for expansion. All went well with the install, but the post-boot upgrade would not complete due to an error with the abrt files. I found a thread discussing this and used the suggested method of performing the updates from a shell, which worked fine. There were LOTS of installations, updates, and replacements, and finally the shell returned "Complete!". After a reboot I was going through the Fedora_12_ User_ Guide.pdf and noticed many items missing from the System Menu as described in section 3.1.1.3 "The System menu". Another thread seemed to address a similar issue with su - then yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment", which I did. It updated over 870 items, then completed with no errors. At this point I logged out and back in, no change, and then tried a reboot, which also did not change anything. Finally, I'm appealing to the community.

Fedora :: F14 Gnome Panel Started Reshuffling Items After Reboot / Solution For This?

Sep 4, 2011

Recently my GNOME (bottom) panel started reshuffling items after reboot.
I tried removing the panel, recreating it and placing new items on the panel. After rebooting the PC everything is undone. The panel reshuffles the items (even when the "Lock To Panel" is used). Also the items that are moved to the top panel, after rebooting return to the bottom panel.

Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Ubuntu :: Desktop Frozen After Trying To Move Panel

Feb 25, 2010

Downloaded Ubuntu to try it out. It currently dual boots with with Windows XP on my Dell. Everything seemed to be going fine, until this problem: I started tweaking the panel (with the shortcuts). Put on the bottom with the Auto hide feature enabled. As soon as it hid, the bottom panel start glitching out, and this was followed by the desktop freezing. My media player continued to play and mouse was still moving, but I couldn't do anything. Had to manually shut down the computer. Turned it on and logged in - same problem. I think creating a new account by logging as "root" would fix this, but I have alot of preferences set up, passwords saved, etc on my account.
