I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?
This seems like it should be simple to do. I have a fresh F13 install running Gnome, and the gnome panel is on the left-hand side of the monitor. I want it on the righthand side. So far I have been unable to achieve this. I can't drag the panel (even with ALT held down), and if I try to set orientation to "Right" it changes back the "Left" again
View 4 Replies View RelatedI right clicked on the panel and clicked "New Panel". This actually did nothing the first few times. Eventually it produced a panel on the right side of the screen. When I tried to alt+drag it to move it to my other screen, it won't move. The top and bottom panel do move appropriately.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem before in Ubuntu but I don't remember how I fixed it. I have buttons for the open applications on the bottom panel. If I move from one to the other with the mouse, the button highlight doesn't follow. I have to go out of the panel and back in to a different button. I removed and reinstalled the applet to no effect.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a very annoying problem. I cannot move any panel items to the upper right hand corner... But I can move them to any other panel, right or left.I right click the item. Then I click Move. Then I click the upper right hand corner. Then nothing happens, except if there is a group of buttons side-by-side then the right-clicked item will move to the far right of the group
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis question concerns the system panel/launcher panel / the panel with the launcher that normally appears across the top or bottom of the screen. The default system panel layout was nice, but, I screwed it up by accidentally deleting the task manager. I put the task manager back but now my clock & system tray are to the left of the task manager, and, I can't just drag things around. Is there a trick to organizing the widgets on this panel or is it broken? Every time I try to move something, it basically ignores me and adds it to the right of everything else.
KDE 4.6.3
Opensuse 11.4 x86_64
Downloaded Ubuntu to try it out. It currently dual boots with with Windows XP on my Dell. Everything seemed to be going fine, until this problem: I started tweaking the panel (with the shortcuts). Put on the bottom with the Auto hide feature enabled. As soon as it hid, the bottom panel start glitching out, and this was followed by the desktop freezing. My media player continued to play and mouse was still moving, but I couldn't do anything. Had to manually shut down the computer. Turned it on and logged in - same problem. I think creating a new account by logging as "root" would fix this, but I have alot of preferences set up, passwords saved, etc on my account.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using squeeze and the xserver-xorg-core, kdebase and kdm packages with their dependencies in addition to the base system installation. I get glitches when I try to drag the icons on the panel: I can't move them properly and occasionally the whole screen gets redrawn (by this I mean it goes black and gets back several seconds later.) and gives an error with signal 11 (segmentation fault). The problem is not specific to my user account, because I tried it with a newly created user, and I didn't do any configuration on mine either. I also experienced other glitches, about which I made some screenshots: [URL]

The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. This may be fine for netbooks but not my laptop.I just launched Tomboy, which startde with its window in the bottom right of the screen, however to get to the programs menu I have to move the cursor all the way to the top right of the screen - miles.

Well aside from not being able to see icons on the left, or go to the any terminal and not seeing anything and be forced to blind type and hope for the best there are some other issues. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've recently moved to ubuntu netbook remix. It's been a little rough but I've figured out my previous problem. However I have a new one. When right clicking the panel "add to panel" disappears. I looked it up and it seems that "Windows Picker" takes up most of the space and it's hard to find. Well I eventually found the sweet spot but "Add to Panel", "Move", and pretty much everything but "About" and "Properties" is grayed out

View 2 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.10 32 bit/ and /storage are on two different partitions. I want to move my home directory to the /storage partition, so I went to System -> Administration -> Users and Groups then Advanced Settings then the Advanced tab. I changed Home Directory from /home/billy to /storage/home/billy. I click on ok and I'm asked if I want to copy all the user's files over to the new location or start fresh. I click, Copy Files. It acts like it's doing something, but all it does is create the home/billy directories inside /storage, but it never copies files over and the next time I go to /home/billy it's still in the old location. What the heck is the deal?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a netbook running ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and it is connected to the internet using DSL high speed internet Comcast---standard coaxial cable to modem to ethernet cabel to my netbook. The wired connection is Auto eth0. It works fine.
However, I have recently installed ubuntu 9.04 desktop edition on ANOTHER laptop and cannot get it to connect to the internet using this same modem and cable. When I plug in the ethernet cable it searches for wireless networks but won't recognise the wired network connection---Wired Network disconnected. Auto eth0 shows up under Network Connections and it has the MAC address and is set to connect automatically. I have tried restarting the computer and unplugging and plugging in the modem after about 15 min.
why I cannot just move my comcast ethernet cable from one machine to another?
Does any one know how to get the name back on the gnome panel. It seems to have disappeared , I tried using the add to panel feature by right clicking on the panel but cannot locate it in the list.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried setting up sftp for my users. Each of my user have their home directory at "/var/www/public_html/$USER". When my users are using sftp, they can only see their own directories and unable to move to other locations of the system. I followed through the following tutorials: [URL]
The users are able to sftp into the system successfully. However, they are able to see the whole system. Somehow, it appears that the users are not jailed in their home directory although in the tutorial it states otherwise. The difference of my system against the tutorial is that I am using Dropbear for SSH server while it is using Openssh server. Although dropbear does not support sftp, I am able to login through sftp through the use of sftp-server. For the internal mechanics, I am not sure how though.
Assuming that when I tried to SFTP, the sftp-server is ran with the sshd_config, then everything should be working fine right? Do i need to run chroot command at all? The following is the procedure I used to attempt the objective:
1) Add a new user to the group: SFTPonly
2) Chown user:SFTPonly user/home/directory
2) Modify the sshd_config to what is reflected in the tutorial and other paths.
slackware and am infact running Vector Linux which is slackware based. I used to use fedora on my old laptop got a new on and tried vector. The mouse on the new one doesn't seem to want to work properly, it jumps alot and usually ends up at the end of the screen unable to move, however does manage to click almost every icon on the screen and change desktops.A USB mouse works fine its just the touchpad. It's a Zoostorm Freedom and I can't even find the windows drivers for it let alone what i need for this. I tried editing the xorg.conf to stop the tab button, which doesn't do anything, installed the latest synaptics and still nothing, tried using what someone else uses and still nothing, I cant even find out what kind of mouse it is!?
