I right clicked on the panel and clicked "New Panel". This actually did nothing the first few times. Eventually it produced a panel on the right side of the screen. When I tried to alt+drag it to move it to my other screen, it won't move. The top and bottom panel do move appropriately.

On a fresh FC14, I am unable to drag a gnome-panel by holding the ALT-key. I would need the gnome-panel on the second screen. How to do that now? As per gnome manual it should still be working with the ALT key.

I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?
This seems like it should be simple to do. I have a fresh F13 install running Gnome, and the gnome panel is on the left-hand side of the monitor. I want it on the righthand side. So far I have been unable to achieve this. I can't drag the panel (even with ALT held down), and if I try to set orientation to "Right" it changes back the "Left" again

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
Is it possible to delete a panel and move the remaining one in the Fallback Gnome 2-style mode? When I tried it everything seemed locked down.

View 9 Replies View RelatedGraphics is getting distorted whenever I move windows along the screen. This happened soon after I installed KDE desktop and compiz fusion on my pc. I am having 1GB ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 54 graphics card (Seems like that was the problem). The first fix that I tried: Installed qt-devel compat-libstdc++-33 and then created an xorg.conf file by installing system-config-display and edited the file to include radeon under drivers then restarted --> this didnt work Compiled ATI drivers for linux ---> this also dint work However, I can view the o/p clearly when I type glxgears Seems like the issue is with this. But I donno how to change this

When I run the above command, the o/p includes direct rendering: yes" and also various OpenGL information concerning for "Mesa" but not for "ATI Technologies" I am facing this issue on KDE as well as Gnome.. In KDE, if I check activate Desktop graphics then I would get automatically logged out. In gnome if I select "Desktop Effects" then I get a message "3D acceleration not supported".
I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?

I've had this problem before in Ubuntu but I don't remember how I fixed it. I have buttons for the open applications on the bottom panel. If I move from one to the other with the mouse, the button highlight doesn't follow. I have to go out of the panel and back in to a different button. I removed and reinstalled the applet to no effect.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis question concerns the system panel/launcher panel / the panel with the launcher that normally appears across the top or bottom of the screen. The default system panel layout was nice, but, I screwed it up by accidentally deleting the task manager. I put the task manager back but now my clock & system tray are to the left of the task manager, and, I can't just drag things around. Is there a trick to organizing the widgets on this panel or is it broken? Every time I try to move something, it basically ignores me and adds it to the right of everything else.

Downloaded Ubuntu to try it out. It currently dual boots with with Windows XP on my Dell. Everything seemed to be going fine, until this problem: I started tweaking the panel (with the shortcuts). Put on the bottom with the Auto hide feature enabled. As soon as it hid, the bottom panel start glitching out, and this was followed by the desktop freezing. My media player continued to play and mouse was still moving, but I couldn't do anything. Had to manually shut down the computer. Turned it on and logged in - same problem. I think creating a new account by logging as "root" would fix this, but I have alot of preferences set up, passwords saved, etc on my account.

I get glitches when I try to drag the icons on the panel: I can't move them properly and occasionally the whole screen gets redrawn (by this I mean it goes black and gets back several seconds later.) and gives an error with signal 11 (segmentation fault). The problem is not specific to my user account, because I tried it with a newly created user, and I didn't do any configuration on mine either. The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. This may be fine for netbooks but not my laptop.I just launched Tomboy, which startde with its window in the bottom right of the screen, however to get to the programs menu I have to move the cursor all the way to the top right of the screen - miles.
