I have a problem with eclipse and naultis and some other applications that the menu bar(File Edit View) is not visible. I actually bfore getting this issue I try to modify using gconf-editor and installed some themes for gnome.

I have a clean install of openSUSE 11.4 64 bit using gnome as the desktop manager. When selecting applications from the gnome menu, randomly the application will appear to not launch. However, if I click anywhere in left, upper portion of my desktop it becomes obvious that the application has launched and is not visible. For example, yast will not appear but clicking in that portion of my desktop causes various windows to appear that correspond to the different options in the yast home screen.

Also file sharing is also not possible in normal mode. When I right click on any folder or file sharing option is not visible. But if I run these applications with SUDO the menus are appearing. I am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.

one more thing.When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.
I just reinstalled from scratch the new Ubuntu 11.04, and now I would like to copy in single evolution files with my profile etc.. from a back up. The problem is that such files are not visible on the graphic view, and I dont' want to go on the terminal.

I'm unable to open and view folders graphically. I click Places -> Home Folder (or any of the other folders, including Computer), and the cursor turns to the spinning "wait" dial, but the folder won't appear. A tab appears in the bottom panel, with the title "opening ZenBeam" (or "opening Desktop" or "Starting Computer", depending on which folder I tried to open) for a few seconds, but then goes away. Left- or Right-clicking on these tabs doesn't give me any options.
This used to work normally, but stopped suddenly a few days ago, following a reboot. I'm guessing it's become corrupted, but I don't know what "it" is. I can navigate in a command line window normally.I have rebooted, and I have run System -> Administration -> Software Update, but that didn't fix the problem.I was going to add the information in System -> About This Computer, but that seems to be having the same problem.What can I do to fix this? In the gnome-system-monitor, on the "Processes" tab in the "View" menu, I should be able to choose between "Active Processes", "All Processes", and "My Processes". The chooses are all greyed out and I am only able to view "My Processes".I launched the app as root and had the same lack of choice.I also disabled SELinux and rebooted the machine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04 I removed the Me Menu from the panel and then put it back (right click -> Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet Session). The Me Menu came back, but my name is not on the panel. When the Me Menu came back it was just a small blank on the panel next to the Power Button. There was no name, no icon, no nothing to tell me that was the Me Menu. In fact, I only accidentally found it when I happened to click in that blank space. I checked to see if there was any sort of Preferences setting for the Me Menu so I could get it to display my name for me to click on (like it did before), but could not see a setting like that. How can I make the Me Menu to be more visible than just a blank spot on the panel?

I get a new user from the same OS, and i see that the same problem still there... For example many many compressed files, audio or graphic files are not associated with vlc or gimp.

Menu sometimes will stay visible on the desktop or on top of other windows after selecting them. To fix it I normally log out then log back in. Its been doing it for a few weeks. I install lots of eye candy/themes etc and have Avant, docky and cario-dock and think it be may some eye candy I installed, not sure. I have a ATI graphics card thats been tested by the distro.Using the latest 10.10 as I update security and recommended updates via update manager.

After much Google-ing and headaches I finally found out how to change the Gnome Menu Icon in F10. I love the Echo Icon theme, but I hate that Pac Man main menu icon. I had to get rid of it. Here's how to change that icon--and even to replace the standard "Infinity" icon with a much nicer version--or even switch that out for something totally different.
First, enable GUI root logon. This makes copying/pasting the icon to the protected icon folder much easier. Here's how [URL]When you have completed that, log out. When you get to the GDM login choose "Other" enter "root" in Username and then your root password. Now you're logged in as root.
Go to USR/Share/Pixmaps and there are a few nice Fedora icons. There's the "Infinity" logo but it's a much nicer, shinier version of the standard one. It's called "fedora-logo-sprite". But if you're feeling adventurous then try--as I did--"fedora-logo-small", which is the fedora name and a small "Infinity" logo (there's also the "Powered by Fedora" icon too). Copy one of those and paste it to Home or Desktop, or wherever you want. You just want to put it somewhere to stage. Now change the name to "start-here".
Now go to /USR/Share/Icons/(name of icon set using)/24x24/places/ and remove the "start-here" icon (send to Trash). Go to where you staged your replacement icon, copy it, go back to the /USR/Share/Icons/(icon set used)/24x24/places/ folder and paste it. Be sure to empty the Trash Can before you log off as Root User. Log off/ log back on as "you" and the icon should appear. I used the "Fedora (Infinity)" logo as Main Menu instead of the Menu Bar and it works great. The "Powered by Fedora" icon would look great too.
How in the world can I turn off the icons in my gnome menu? they are already "unchecked" by default in gconf so what is the secret here? are they just on forever if i like it or not or what?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I right-click on firefox, the menu that appears is sometimes quite long depending on where on the screen I click, and usually the top option dissappears under that top Panel of Gnome shell, so that I have to guess and click on the panel to get an "Open in New Tab" (which is usually my first option.)
