Ubuntu :: Gnome Panel Visible Over Impress / Presenter Slide

Jan 18, 2010

When I run a slide show (F5), the Gnome panel is shown in the screen. Sometimes it is hidden below the slide show, but usually the panel is shown. How do I make it hidden during a slide show or is this some kind of bug? Did not find anything on google.
Open Office 3.1.1 (Build:9420)

Ubuntu :: Presenter Console 1.1 - View Notes In Impress

Mar 16, 2010

I just installed Presenter Console 1.1 extension for oofffice impress. I would like to view notes while showing the slide show. I think I should be able to do this even when my CPU is not connected to a projector. However, I do not know how to activate the mode for viewing notes. I can see that the extension is installed by going to tools-Extension Extension Manager (the extension is locked and the disable and activate buttons are grayed out?).

Ubuntu :: Menu Not Visible On Panel?

May 20, 2010

Ubuntu 10.04 I removed the Me Menu from the panel and then put it back (right click -> Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet Session). The Me Menu came back, but my name is not on the panel. When the Me Menu came back it was just a small blank on the panel next to the Power Button. There was no name, no icon, no nothing to tell me that was the Me Menu. In fact, I only accidentally found it when I happened to click in that blank space. I checked to see if there was any sort of Preferences setting for the Me Menu so I could get it to display my name for me to click on (like it did before), but could not see a setting like that. How can I make the Me Menu to be more visible than just a blank spot on the panel?

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Network Manager Not Visible In Panel?

Dec 16, 2010

New to 10.04, not to Ubuntu. Fresh install of 10.04, recommended proprietary nVidia driver installed because text rendering in Firefox is terribly with the 'standard' non-proprietary driver. Also new to Vodafone / Huawei modems. My previous experience with a Vodafone modem (type unknown) was with 9.04 when I helped my daughter-in-law fixing her Windows computer. It worked out of the box from the live CD and she is now a happy Ubuntu user

Optimistically, I recently bought a Vodafone K3765 modem as backup for my standard internet connection. I eventually got that to work after installing the USB mode switcher. So no it works out-of-the-box experience here Problem:The network manager (I assume that is what it is called; little antenna with signal strength indicator is not visible in the panel (right top). It is there but it's only one pixel or so wide (at occasion a one pixel wide vertical line occurs at the position where it is supposed to be). So when I want to connect I have to click a number of times in the panel till I hit it and the menu shows. Once it is visible, it will stay visible till the user logs off.

2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.

Ubuntu :: Network Manager Icon Isn't Visible On The Top Panel?

Jul 15, 2010

I have had a bit of experience with previous distros but I am pretty much a newbie. So I setup 10.04 but I can't get my net to connect. It's working fine on Win7 (posting from it). It's a dsl connection. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the net.

I opened terminal and used the 'sudo pppoeconf' command and followed the instructions. This is how I used to get my net working on previous distros but it dosen't seem to work in 10.04. The terminal says that my connection is active but it isn't. The network manager icon isn't visible on the top panel.

Ubuntu :: 10.4 Panel Not Visible Across Both Screens In Twin Screen Mode?

May 11, 2010

I am using 10.4, and an NVIDIA 5500 video card, two screens....

I have a problem with the Panel, top and bottom. It only shows on the main screen. When I set-up it showed on both, right across, was beautiful. I was quite happy to live with the shrunk down version until I noticed two things:

1. If an app or document is in the second screen (in this case the left) then it does not show up on the panel, until I drag it to the primary (right) screen.

2. Documents open in the secondary screen in full screen mode have a "white out" banner (which I assume is the hidden Panel) across the top and bottom ribbons. This is a BIG problem, because it means there is no access to the Max, Min, Close and drag facilities, and as it is not visible in the Panel that is showing, read 1 above, then it just sits there.

Screen shot enclosed. Not the min, max on this are the doc, not the ap... But you can see the blank Panel.

Ubuntu :: After Adding 'killall Gnome-panel' To The Startup Applications Does The Panel Fail To Load Altogether

Dec 4, 2010

Regarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.

Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.

I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.

Desktop Environments :: Unity2D Panel Broken (mouse Over Reverts To Gnome-panel) / Sort It?

May 17, 2011

So I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior

symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.

Ubuntu :: Gnome-panel Is At 100% And Completely Unusable Rendering Gnome Unusable

Nov 19, 2010

I recently bought a second monitor and I had this set up perfectly fine with two panels on my primary display and one on my secondary. I've now gone away for the weekend (leaving the monitor) and I went to turn on my laptop and it didn't work.

When I login to a gnome session (or indeed a failsafe gnome session) I just got two horizontal white bars (where the panels would be). I switch to a terminal, login and run top and see that gnome-panel is on 100%. Running 'killall gnome-panel' does nothing (tried a few times).

I've had to install xfce4 just to type this message. Is there any way I can 'reset' gnome-panel or any other fix? Or even a workaround would be nice. I'm on 9.10 by the way. I am going to upgrade at some point but its not really an option yet.
