General :: KMail's Message List - Change Message List Display?

Jul 20, 2009

KMail 1.11.4, KDE 4.2.4: I'm migrating from WinXP to Mandriva, and installed KMail at the weekend. Works fine, but I have a niggle - the message list displays headers grouped by month order. I'd like the option of having a simple list (no groups), and suspect that it could be done - but I haven't been able to find out how. I've checked in the Handbook without success, and a search in LQ hasn't turned up anything yet.Any suggestions gratefully received. If this isn't the right place for a KMail query,

Ubuntu :: Display Message Before Shutdown

Dec 7, 2010

I have been working on this for all afternoon.I have found links here and elsewhere, with no solution.(currently) I am using crontab to execute the shutdown command based on a schedule. M-W, Th-Fr, and Sat.The message argument does not work. I need a Gui warning message before the Pc kicks the user off.Zenity does not work directly with crontab, so I put it in a script:#!/bin/bash Zenity --warning --text "The library is closing in 10 minutes. This PC will automatically shutdown in 5 minutes. Please save your work now, to prevent data loss."

Ubuntu :: DVI: Cannot Display This Mode Message On Monitor

May 4, 2010

I have a Dell monitor attached to a Dell laptop. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 x64.

Spec:
Latitude E6500 : Intel Core 2 Duo P8800(2.66GHz,1066MHz,3MB)
Base Options : 256MB Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M Graphic Card 1 S
Display : 15.4in Widescreen WUXGA (1920X1200) 2CCFL
Dell 2001FP (attached using DVI)

When I try to boot into Ubuntu with the monitor attached I get a DVI: Cannot Display this Mode message on my monitor. I can boot into Ubuntu just fine if I detach the monitor. Have tried with VGA, but to no avail. I have the latest and greatest Nvidia drivers downloaded from the Nvidia web site. Googling indicates that this is a Dell problem, however, I am not sure about this. It worked just fine on my previous laptop (IBM T61) and Ubuntu 9.10, so I guess it has to do with the laptop and not Ubuntu 10.04.

When you view mail in evolution in the vertical mode with the folders on the left, then the mail list in the middle and the message on the right, the mail list displays each message on two rows. But in thunderbird, the mail list is just in one row which means that much of the message header is not visible.

Fedora :: Thunderbird Does Not Display Message Content+

Jul 31, 2010

I recently got the problem that Thunderbird does not displays the messages anymore. The e-mails are downloaded form the server, a new email warning is given, but the e-mail cannot be displayed (in fact it is not loaded in the message window. I could only see the TB start page). I cannot even see the old messages.

However, when use "see message source" I can see the e-mails.

I also noticed this message in the error console:

server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555

I use Fedora 12 + thunderbird 3.0.6-1

On another linux box F9+ThB 2.0.0 I do not have that issue.

Today I upgraded to Fedora 13 + TB 3.1.1. This should be the latest one, but I still cannot see the message.

Also, on F13 I got another issue with Firefox 3.6.7. When I switch between the tabs, the tabs will turn black and will not get back to normal for 10-15 sec. It looks liek a random effect because often only part fo the page turns black. This issue appear in the windows of TB 3.1.1 since updated to F13.

My hardware is a Sony SR49 laptop with ATI mobility Radeon HD3470

Have Google chrome and this black page issue is not present. The same with Evolution mail, but I do not like it.

Ubuntu Installation :: No Display Booting After Upgrading?

Jun 26, 2010

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop and have tried booting the ISO from a USB stick and also installing it to my HD with Wubi.Unfortunately my experience hasn't been any better than when I tried Ubuntu 8.10When booting the Live iso from my USB stick, my display goes into sleep mode (IE is receiving no signal) from the momentUbuntu begins booting until eventually the desktop appears several minutes later. If I was the average punter I would probably have assumed nothing was happening and rebooted.

As I have some experience with Linux (barely), I thought to try Ctrl-Alt-F1, which brought the monitor back to life and showed the terminal. As soon as I switched back to the main window (Ctrl-Alt-F8 I think) the display went back into sleep mode.Once it had booted, I did "sudo apt-get update", which worked and then "sudo apt-get upgrade", which did a lot of updates and then sent my monitor back into sleep mode, requiring me to reboot! When I tried to boot the Wubi install, again the display went into sleep mode as soon as Ubuntu started booting but this time the desktop never appeared and after about 5 minutes I rebooted. My motherboard is a Gigabyte MA780G-UD3H and I'm using the onboard HD3200 IGP and a Phenom II X3 720 and 4GB DDR2 1066Mhz RAM.

Fedora :: Black Screen And Message - Cannot Display This Mode 2:dvi-d - During F11 Install

Sep 1, 2009

F9 has been running great since it came out. I read that one should install F10 before F11 so I did install F10! Everything went great.

(1) Then I tried to install the F11 iso dvd. After the "anaconda started" message at the bottom of a blue screen, the screen went blank and occasionally the message would appear: "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d". Thinking the monitor had gone into power save, I hit many keys and moved the mouse to no avail.

I gave up! BTW I had checked all media CDs for errors.

(2) then working under F10, a little message appeared from the lower right of the screen asking if I wanted to upgrade to F11.

I accepted and again "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d" on a black screen after anaconda started on a blue screen. This time no ISO DVD F11. I've never seen such an error message in 11 years (off and on) of using Linux. HD Disk activity was showing on the disk activity light so I let it run all night and part of today. I hit a bunch of keys and moved the mouse and the blue screen returned saying all was done and restarting.

After restart, I seem to have F11 installed. I did a yum update and got some more F11 updates. On the grub screen, the only F11 kernel was the PAE kernel which I selected
and got:

Does F11 have any F11 kernels? BTW running >setup (hd0,0) under F10 grub ruined my XP prof OS on scsi 0 so I reloaded XP Prof from scratch.

Questions:

(1) what is this "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d"?

(2) Now I cannot boot to Fedora 11 and all the advice on how to reinstall grub has failed failed. Did a rescue and chroot /mnt/sysimage and the fdisk -l

Now XP Prof seems to be on /dev/sdc and Fedora on /dev/sdd. What do I do? In the meantime I have retreated to Fedora 10.

General :: New Install Of Debian Of PPC G4 Not Booting With Repeated Message - Drive Not Ready

Mar 17, 2010

I just installed Debian onto a PowerPC G4 Tower with two hard drives. I left OS X on one of the drives and reformatted and installed Debian on the other, using the installer from the 60Mb ISO from the Debian website.

The installation had no issues and it starts yaboot and Debian no problem.

After about 2 minutes of the booting up process, it starts to output this, every five seconds:

While this happens, other things still continue load and it outputs occasional messages and even gets to "Debian Login:" where if you type really quickly and hit enter, it takes it and prompts for "Password:" right after the next round of the above messages.

I have not been able to completely log in yet.

I can start up into the shell as root with "Linux single" with no problems.

I think this might have something to do with the second Mac OS Formatted Hard drive. I have considered unplugging that drive and testing it that way, but I am looking for a solution to turn off whatever script is running that every five seconds and failing, regardless of what it is trying to do.

General :: Grub All Over Display While Booting With USB

Jan 7, 2010

I am trying to boot linux kernel from a USB stick. I performed following steps:

1. wrote Grub stag1 to MBR of USB with this command on my linux host.
dd if=/boot/grub/stage1 of=/dev/sdb1 bs=512 count=1

2. Mounted the USB and I copied the following files in my USB.
boot/grub/stage1
boot/grub/stage2

3. Plugged in the USB in the the target machine. Rebooted and changed the booting sequence to boot from USB

My problem is that instead of getting a boot prompt, iIam getting GRUB GRUB GRUB all over the display. I googled out for it and found that if we change the auto-detection oh HDD in bios to manual that may solve the issue, but that did not help. If you happen to know that I am following the correct steps and in right order please point me how can I resolve this issue of GRUB.

Also, unless I select the entry, Grub does not automatically start. The startup takes nearly 1.5 minutes. And, the Login screen, after the installation of Ubuntu Studio GDM, is much slower. I removed the Ubuntu-studio GDM package, still it takes about 20 seconds to allow me to enter Username and password. Any idea?

Fedora :: Boot Screen - Message Booting Without Quiet And With Nosplash In The Grub Menu

Sep 9, 2010

I'm currently trying to get to the root of an problem on startup; unfortunatly when booting after the first couple of messages when booting without quiet and with nosplash in the grub menu I still end up with the nice blue background and the slowly filling bubble... I'd like to go back to the old, boring, messy, but much loved and now much missed (least by me) text boot screen where I can see wtf my system is doing and where its hanging during the boot process.

(I know the cause of the hang now but still want to go back to the old fashioned noisy boot environment - not a fan of the windows style silent boot... I like to know what's going on and that my PC hasn't decided to join the French and go on strike, though wouldn't blame my poor netbook if it has, hammering the bleeper doing random number analysis - not something an atom 270 is designed for)
