I currently using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.Whenever I try installing any new package(*.deb) it will display red error message that I don't understand.What happen? and how to solve this problem?
View 8 Repliesi was installing sm packages my package installer or smthing seems to be broken. I was warned with a Msgbox, to install this thede items must be removed. i clicked 'install anyway''. Anyway, now i cant use any of my package installers. Synaptic says' U hv one broken package' and refuses to work until it is fixed. But fixing also doesn't work. Here are screenshots of terminal commands (apt-get install -f) and other msgs.

This Error comes up after 94% of the install. I also cannot seem to get the side by side install option to work (sometimes this option appears sometimes it does not) I am not sure but I beleive seome of the install files have been placed on the hard drive because I only get the option now to install on the hard drive and totally wipe clean or the emptiest hard drive. So how would I get the possible Ubuntu install off the Hard drive. I have used this CD to Install before it has no scratches therefore should work. Also If I have Win Xp on a Raid 0 will the Ubuntu 9.10 install ?
I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.

When I try to do this, I come to an 'allocate drive space' window, but whatever I do I get the error message: 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I just don't know what this means, or what to do next. I'm loathe to ditch windows, and I don't want to have to use a flashdrive all the time.

I think my mv command is broken? When I try to rename files mv name name1 I get an error message saying: "Could not display "/home/<username>/name" The location is not a folder and a windows to /home/<username>/Videos appears When I try to move files
mv name folder1/name I get the same error message as above, and same popup and another error message that says Could not find "/home/<username>/folder1/name Please check the spelling and try again. Besides Clean Installing F13, is there anything I can do to fix this? Note:In either case the file is not moved at all.
EDIT: Should that I'm doing it in Terminal. I still get the same result when I run as super user.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.

I have reinstalled mysql-server-5.1 using the command "sudo apt-get --reinstall install mysql-server-5.1".
But its giving error message at the end of installation when its trying to start the server.
The error message is as follows.
When i tried to start the server after the installation, i get this error message
Note : The file "/etc/mysql/my.cnf" is empty.
when I am trying to install a RPM package I get the following error: failed to install file: [PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.w29lVZ] Repository already exists It tried to install DBVisualizer and Adobe Reader 9 and get the same error. Just the directory is different. How do I solve this? I tried to delete the mentioned directories but I can't find them on the file system.
