Ubuntu :: Adjusting Horizontal Scroll Bar Size In Firefox?

Jan 6, 2010

I've been working on tightening up my firefox display. I've managed to cut down the vertical scrollbar. Anyone know how to do the same with the horizontal scroll bar. See screenshot? I'm running this on an eeepc 701 (hence the small screen size).

From my userchrome.css
/* hide vertical scrollbar */
notificationbox {
overflow-x: hidden;
} browser[type="content-primary"], browser[type="content-targetable"] {
overflow-y: scroll;
margin-right: -12px; /* 12px == width of my scrollbar */ }

Ubuntu :: Horizontal Scroll On Touchpad Not Working?

Nov 14, 2010

Upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 yesterday. Only negative thing I'm experiencing is the horizontal scroll region is not really working. Vertical works great and has it has been. Horizontal is activated (under Mouse>Touchpad>Enable Horiztonal (Edge) Scrolling.

When I move horizontally in the region, the cursor remains in the same place. If I try it many times it does work, but it's pretty much useless.

I'm using the hp tc4200 with a synaptics touchpad.

Ubuntu :: Java App Interprets Horizontal Scroll As Right Click?

I'm running 10.4 on a Lenovo thinkpad laptop. Usually I can use the right and bottom edge of my touchpad for vertical/horizontal scrolling (e.g. in firefox). However in one java application (Matlab), the horizontal scrolling is interpreted as a right click. In a similar way, when I touch the upper right corner of the touchpad, it's interpreted as a middle mouse button click.

Ubuntu :: Horizontal Scroll Does Not Work (two Finger) But Vertical Does

But now the horizontal scroll using two fingers does not work at all. I have it checked under mouse settings AND in gpointing devices. Is this a known bug?

Apparently I can't delete this. It has been solved. Smooth scrolling in Chrome kills horizontal scrolling

Ubuntu :: Firefox - When Open Up A New Web Page It Does Not Automatically Allow To Scroll

May 31, 2010

After installing a bunch of new updates with the update manager a few problems have popped up regarding the scrolling in firefox with the arrow keys. The first problem is that when I open up a new web page it does not automatically allow me to scroll. I have to first click the web page and then are the arrow keys enabled. The second problem that I have is that when I press the down arrow key to scroll down in the beginning it jumps down to the end of the page. The third and final problem is how it scrolls. For some reason a site in firefox acts like a word document. Instead of be the arrow keys controlling the scroll bar it controlls the little I symbol you see when typing.

It is amazing how annoying it can be when you can't scroll with the arrow keys. If nobody knows how to then I will probably just reinstall firefox. I have also just figured out that page up and down also do not work.

General :: Firefox 3.5.12 Goes Out Of Control When Scroll Down- Fedora 12

Sep 16, 2010

Usually but not always, when I try to scroll down by clicking in the vertical scroll bar - instead of going down approx 1 screen firefox slowly and jerkily and out of control goes all the way to the bottom of the page. If it is a long page I wait a long time.

The wheel on the mouse works fine, moving the vertical scroll handle with the mouse works fine, pushing the down arrow also works fine.

Alternatively - sometimes the vertical scroll works as I expect it to.

Alterntively - when I use Opera it scrolls as I would expect.

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox Wheel Scroll & Arrow Display?

Nov 20, 2010

Hi, very new to opensuse. I have 64bit 11.3 and its been working very well. My problem is that in Firefox: I have Firefox 3.6.12 when i scroll down using the mouse scroll wheel (not up?) most of the time, but not all the time i get horizontal lines instead of the "real picture". This also happens when i use my keyboard's down arrow key.

When i go slower it seems to happen less often. Also if i click off the page and back on again the display is fine. Is this problem my graphics card? Firefox? or my mouse/keyboard?

Ubuntu :: Firefox Close Buttons And Tab Size

Aug 1, 2010

the size of the min,max, close buttons in the corner of firefox. They are very small and I can't find a way to increase them. I've tried different themes but that doesn't work.

The other thing I would like to increase is the size of the tabs. I DON'T WANT TO MAKE THEM LONGER, I WANT TO MAKE THEM TALLER so they are easier to hit when laptop is hooked to TV. Right now they are very short and I use the mouse on the arm of my chair (cloth) and it's a little difficult to hit them.

I've searched and read tips for the past week and none have what I need. They all tell me how to make the tabs longer or shorter and how to add or remove close boxes in the individual tabs. These don't do what I need done. Can these simple things be done in firefox or am I SOL?

Hardware :: Fan Speed Not Adjusting ?

I've had this problem across several versions of Ubuntu and other distributions as well, and nobody has ever been able to fix the issue. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7829 with Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. Ubuntu detects the make/model of the laptop on install because it tries to name the computer accordingly. My CPU fan speed is always stuck on next to zero. It's just "barely" running at all.

I did a:

I'm unable to make any changes to this file even as root. Can anybody lend me a hand at all? The problem is that any time I do "anything" somewhat CPU intensive my video card and cpu begin to heat up rapidly and I can't really get them to cool off. I don't have this issue with Windows, and the CPU fan is clean and clear of dirt/dust.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Adjusting Screen Position With Xrandr?

Apr 9, 2010

I am running a dual boot conifg with OSX and Ubuntu PPC (karmic) on a 2004 G5 and everything is working pretty well - very well actually. The last thing I am trying to adjust is such a simple thing, but I just can't seem to get it. In Ubuntu, the screen position is shifted to the right, covering the scroll bar of windows and the trash can.

No problem, just use xvidtune, adjust the screen as I want and create a custom modeline right? Well, it does not seem to work.Here is what I did:Using xrandr I created a --newmode and then used --addmode to add it to the output I am using (default):

Code:

mieren@G5-Ubuntu:~$ xrandr --output default --newmode 1680x1050_new 146.25 1680 1820 1996 2268 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync
mieren@G5-Ubuntu:~$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050

[code]....

Notice how the new mode now lacks the rest of the config information specified in the --newmode above, not sure if this is normal.I can change to the new mode, and the resolution is correct, but the screen is still not adjusted. There is no difference switching between the 1680x1050 and the 1680x1050_new modes - the screen may flash, but the position does not change.

(I also tried adding a mode line to /etc/X11/xorg.conf screen section, but it also has no effect. Actually, there was no xorg.conf existing at all, so I created a minimal one.)It is really annoying to have to adjust the screen position using the monitor controls on every reboot.

Is there a way to restrict users that are logged into the shell via SSH/Telnet/SFTP from using the 'cd' command to move into certain directories, yet not use the chmod command to do it? For instance, restrict users logged in from accessing the /var/www/ folder but have it still accessible using a web browser. Also, would this defeat the purpose since they could just wget from it if its still web accessible through a browser?
