Ubuntu :: Horizontal Scroll Does Not Work (two Finger) But Vertical Does
Jan 20, 2011
I have gpointing devices 1-4 installed on ubuntu 10.10. The vertical and horizontal scrol both used to work. I have the latest 1.1.1 dkms synaptics driver posted in that bug forum. But now the horizontal scroll using two fingers does not work at all. I have it checked under mouse settings AND in gpointing devices. Is this a known bug?
Apparently I can't delete this. It has been solved. Smooth scrolling in Chrome kills horizontal scrolling

This is my third SLackware install. I installed 10,12, now 13. the Xorgsetup has changed I think, it does not display the screen to choose Horizontal and Vertical settings for the monitor. In addition, how can I set the Refresh rate?

Upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 yesterday. Only negative thing I'm experiencing is the horizontal scroll region is not really working. Vertical works great and has it has been. Horizontal is activated (under Mouse>Touchpad>Enable Horiztonal (Edge) Scrolling.
When I move horizontally in the region, the cursor remains in the same place. If I try it many times it does work, but it's pretty much useless.
I'm using the hp tc4200 with a synaptics touchpad.

I've been working on tightening up my firefox display. I've managed to cut down the vertical scrollbar. Anyone know how to do the same with the horizontal scroll bar. See screenshot? I'm running this on an eeepc 701 (hence the small screen size).
From my userchrome.css
/* hide vertical scrollbar */
notificationbox {
overflow-x: hidden;
} browser[type="content-primary"], browser[type="content-targetable"] {
overflow-y: scroll;
margin-right: -12px; /* 12px == width of my scrollbar */ }

I'm running 10.4 on a Lenovo thinkpad laptop. Usually I can use the right and bottom edge of my touchpad for vertical/horizontal scrolling (e.g. in firefox). However in one java application (Matlab), the horizontal scrolling is interpreted as a right click. In a similar way, when I touch the upper right corner of the touchpad, it's interpreted as a middle mouse button click.

I (very!) recently installed Mandriva (10.1) on my old-ish HP tx1000 laptop, and cannot connect it to my TV (via the usual external VGA connector) without considerable picture distortion: the image scrolls and wobbles, as if the vertical adjustment is faulty. (One used to get this effect with one's TV if the antenna wasn't properly adjusted.)
I can see both monitors in "Monitor Preferences" - and have tried playing with the parameters available there (there is a general refresh rate setting, but nothing to adjust vertical rate alone), without having any effect on the scrolling distorted image. I can drag windows back and forth between the two monitors, though only the laptop one is usable.

I need a better tutorial than the out of date books I own or I can find using Google. If someone has a place they would recommend, please provide a link. I have a web page that is 3 column. I would like each column to vertical scroll separately. I would also like to keep the jump code in the left column if that is possible. Go here for the my web page and source code. [URL]

i upgraded from f13 to f14 using preupgrade.
now, as the title suggests, the two finger tap acts as a right click, and the three button tab acts as a middle click. and also the tap to click seems disabled by default.
after reading this page, [URL], i created a 50-synaptics.conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and put this inside.
Code:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
[Code].....

I am using a Logitech Wave wireless mouse (no keyboard, since I'm on a notebook), and I am trying to get the tilt to work on my scroll wheel. It is being recognized as simply Left/Right keypresses, e.g. Alt-[Left Tilt] backs up a page in Firefox. Does anyone know how I can remap that to something else? In my case, Alt-Tab and Alt-Shift-Tab.

Well a few days ago I installed Ubuntu for the first time and I'm really enjoying it but there is one thing putting me off and making me want to go back to Windows regularly - the fact my mousepad scroll option doesn't work, something I require quite regularly.
I have googled things about fixes and I'm a beginner, so some of the things were too advanced for me and others didn't work. with this so I can have the best experience I can with the operating system.

I just installed KDE through gruoinstall command on my F12. I can't use the vertical scroll bar on the touchpad of my laptop. Also I wanted to change the shortcut to window menu. It's Alt+F3 whereas I am comfortable to Alt+Space like in GNOME.

I really enjoyed using Apple's wireless Mighty Mouse and Magic mouse because of their ability to easily touch scroll 360 degrees. Unfortunately, Linux drivers are not provided for these mice.Is there an equivalent wireless mouse that works well in Linux? Ideally with native support or community provided drivers, etc.

I purchased a lighted keyboard, on the net.
Black LED Lighted Keyboard W-9868BK USB
The scroll lock key is the key that turns the back light on/off. Num light works/caps light works, but the scroll lock light does not on F12 or Ubuntu Thinking it may be a soft ware problem after trying different usb slots, I dug out an old XP machine and it works.

After upgrading to -current (using slackpkg), my touchpad scrolling won't work.I remember that this had solved my problem previous time and in fact, after upgrade I have changed nothing (since this file already existed there). When I check the /usr/share/hal/fdi/ policy/ 10osvendor/ directory, I see that no "11-x11-synaptics.fdi" file was present. I just copied the file from /etc/hal/fdi/policy into this directory, but this did not help. Can somebody guide me through this?

The new scroll tab that 11.04 has appears when you hover over the orange area on the scroll bar. The scrolling arrows are gone.Well this scrolling tab often vanishes before I can click on it to scroll down. Is there a way to revert to the old style, like the scrolling mechanism on these forums? It is nice to have the option of the arrows on top and bottom, along with the scroll tab thing.

I've freshly installed Lucid on Acer Aspire One 250. I had 9.10 before and two-finger scrolling was working with modification on the 11-x11synaptic.fdi file.
However, now with 10.04, the option in mouse properties is grey ed out... Any way to re-enable it?

I most recently ran a developer preview of os x 10.7 Lion, and in that OS two finger scrolling was inverted (ie, moving two fingers upward on the touchpad would scroll you down the page). I love that I didn't need any extra drivers to get two finger scrolling working with ubuntu 11.04 on my 3rd gen mac air, and am super impressed with all the out of the box drivers for my mac; but I'm wondering if there's a way to invert the two finger scrolling directions. There must be... It's probably technically involved and will necessitate modify x11 files or something, but I think there must be a way.

I'm finding it really annoying having to right click by holding two fingers on the touchpad and then clicking. Usually when I set my two fingers down when I'm on the target, it scrolls the screen a bit and I end up having to scroll back to the target. This annoyance is really not going away.Does anyone know of another alternative for right-clicking besides using two fingers on the touchpad? I'd really like to set the "fn" key to do it (as I don't use it for anything anymore) - is this possible?

How do I get the contents of .plan and .project files to show up using the finger command for regular users? As it stands with the setup I have in Fedora 12, only the user in question and the superuser can see them when they finger the user. Everyone else gets "no plan". I've tried chmod .plan o+rwx and chmod .plan a+rwx to no effect.ur.
