Software :: Firefox Doesn't Scroll As Smoothly In X As It Does In Windows
Apr 28, 2010It's a lot more laggy and jerky in GNOME/X, even with GL-render on. Is this normal with nVidia cards or should I try tweaking some settings?

View 5 RepliesI just upgraded (full reinstall inc. format) from 11.1 (32bit) to 11.3 (64bit).
Everything is working correctly except gmplayer (installed from packman).
If I play movies using gmplayer they do not play smoothly, but the strange thing is if I play the same file with mplayer from a terminal it does play smoothly.
If I play the file from a terminal with gmplayer no errors are reported...

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter I had upgraded to 10.10, Firefox was at first running smoothly, but later it would no longer connect/open any given site. (could not connect to server). I the de-installed and new installed Firefox and it worked fine again for a while but then the same problem returned. I then completely removed Firefox and all packages pertaining to it, and then made a new install of the basic Firefox browser (same problem), then started adding one by one the other "Ubuntu" packages in synaptic for firefox, but the problem remains. I am currently using Chromium (which runs well and extremely fast) but I would like to have Firefox back
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to change the scroll speed for the mouse in Firefox? Right now it leaps down a long way for each click of the scroll wheel, practically leaving me cross eyed and having to search for my position where I was reading. I can't seem to find a way to adjust this anywhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsually but not always, when I try to scroll down by clicking in the vertical scroll bar - instead of going down approx 1 screen firefox slowly and jerkily and out of control goes all the way to the bottom of the page. If it is a long page I wait a long time.
The wheel on the mouse works fine, moving the vertical scroll handle with the mouse works fine, pushing the down arrow also works fine.
Alternatively - sometimes the vertical scroll works as I expect it to.
Alterntively - when I use Opera it scrolls as I would expect.
I just installed KDE through gruoinstall command on my F12. I can't use the vertical scroll bar on the touchpad of my laptop. Also I wanted to change the shortcut to window menu. It's Alt+F3 whereas I am comfortable to Alt+Space like in GNOME.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
When zooming in on some websites there is no horizontal scroll bar and therefore you can't scroll over to see the rest of the webpage? Fedora 15, Gnome Shell and Firefox 4 & 5 & Nightly builds version 64bit. On this site for example [URL]. 30 views and no one has clicked the link and tested it in firefox?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working on tightening up my firefox display. I've managed to cut down the vertical scrollbar. Anyone know how to do the same with the horizontal scroll bar. See screenshot? I'm running this on an eeepc 701 (hence the small screen size).
From my userchrome.css
/* hide vertical scrollbar */
notificationbox {
overflow-x: hidden;
} browser[type="content-primary"], browser[type="content-targetable"] {
overflow-y: scroll;
margin-right: -12px; /* 12px == width of my scrollbar */ }
After installing a bunch of new updates with the update manager a few problems have popped up regarding the scrolling in firefox with the arrow keys. The first problem is that when I open up a new web page it does not automatically allow me to scroll. I have to first click the web page and then are the arrow keys enabled. The second problem that I have is that when I press the down arrow key to scroll down in the beginning it jumps down to the end of the page. The third and final problem is how it scrolls. For some reason a site in firefox acts like a word document. Instead of be the arrow keys controlling the scroll bar it controlls the little I symbol you see when typing.
It is amazing how annoying it can be when you can't scroll with the arrow keys. If nobody knows how to then I will probably just reinstall firefox. I have also just figured out that page up and down also do not work.
i wasn't sure how to explain it right. So basically i want the middle scroll wheel to navigate up and down the page(I'm new).
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi, very new to opensuse. I have 64bit 11.3 and its been working very well. My problem is that in Firefox: I have Firefox 3.6.12 when i scroll down using the mouse scroll wheel (not up?) most of the time, but not all the time i get horizontal lines instead of the "real picture". This also happens when i use my keyboard's down arrow key.
When i go slower it seems to happen less often. Also if i click off the page and back on again the display is fine. Is this problem my graphics card? Firefox? or my mouse/keyboard?
In Google Chrome Beta and in Epiphany, I am able to scroll through the different tabs with the middle mouse button. However, this doesn't happen in Firefox. Is there any way to implement a feature like this in Firefox?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell a few days ago I installed Ubuntu for the first time and I'm really enjoying it but there is one thing putting me off and making me want to go back to Windows regularly - the fact my mousepad scroll option doesn't work, something I require quite regularly.
I have googled things about fixes and I'm a beginner, so some of the things were too advanced for me and others didn't work. with this so I can have the best experience I can with the operating system.
I would like to say that I have tried searching for a possible solution on this, and I may be wrong, but I haven't found anything on it. Anyhow, I am here because I would like to know if there is a way to enable the "scroll wheel" in Firefox, like in Windows, on Ubuntu 10.04.

I really enjoyed using Apple's wireless Mighty Mouse and Magic mouse because of their ability to easily touch scroll 360 degrees. Unfortunately, Linux drivers are not provided for these mice.Is there an equivalent wireless mouse that works well in Linux? Ideally with native support or community provided drivers, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I couldn't stand the new UI with the huge icons taking up my screen, and the maximize/minimize/close buttons displaced, so I enabled the normal Gnome desktop on my netbook. However, with my tiny screen I am seeing that some windows have lost all of the information, and no scrollbar is present.
For instance, when attempting to change account settings in Mozilla Thunderbird, some of the options would extend beyond the bottom of the windows where "cancel" and "ok" are found, but the window ends and no option to scroll down to the missing information exists. A similar problem happens when I try to make adjustments to some items in system administration.
The new scroll tab that 11.04 has appears when you hover over the orange area on the scroll bar. The scrolling arrows are gone.Well this scrolling tab often vanishes before I can click on it to scroll down. Is there a way to revert to the old style, like the scrolling mechanism on these forums? It is nice to have the option of the arrows on top and bottom, along with the scroll tab thing.

i am wanting to use Firefox to connect to my smb shares. However, i keep getting this error message: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program. My client configuration is as follows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.8pre) Gecko/20100106 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Shiretoko/3.5.8preI tried the instructions below to try and fix the problem with no success: Quote: From [URL]
Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. If you use KDE, this will typically be "/usr/bin/konqueror".
I create/modify web pages on Ubuntu and on Ubuntu it looks good but on Firefox that runs on Windows it is all messed up. The pictures or text is not as intended and that is really annoying. What is the issue here?I really don't understand.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?

Everything seemed to go fine, but after I restarted, it was still on 9.04. I'm not sure where to go from here. All but one of the servers is running Ubuntu Server (i.e. no desktop GUI) so I'll still need a command line solution (which is preferable anyway).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI could go on for pages with the different things that I've tried. The end result with all of them is that the Kernal isn't found by any bootloaders. Lilo won't install and errors out. I don't remember the specific error, sorry. I can't use the usb boot stick it has me make during the installation, it just doesn't boot. My CPU is a dell optiplex GX520, Pentium 4 2.8 ghz, 512mb ram, SATA hd. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I want to believe there's something incompatible in the hardware with the standard kernal, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
