I just want to try to kde plasma desktop. After I install it, I restart and log in with KDE, then I realize the wireless is disable or to be more specific it couldn't detect any. The same goes for my Gnome after I install kde. But when I remove kde, the problem is gone. Using Ubuntu 10.04.
View 6 RepliesI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 in my laptop and I can't connect to WIFI. When I boot with Windows 7, the connection is fine. I think the problem is with the drivers so I decided to boot on Windows 7 and look for the driver for Ubuntu. Problem is, I do not know what driver do I download. View 4 Replies View Relatedi used to have shaw cable that i paid for and with that a "wired" connection which no matter what linux i chose to play with would recognize and automatically install the network drivers etc... so that i could access the web. now though i use a connection via wifi in the hotel that i now reside at and when i install or use live cd versions of linux i cant get it to use my wifi. due to the fact i have an atheros card. i researched this and found that apparently i need to have mad wifi installed and configured. however i haven't been able to get it to work. i can't seem to get an accurate step by step on installing it. same when i step by step try to install linux onto a usb stick and have it bootable. furthest i've gotten is the start up splash screen and then it freezes. anywho can someone steer me towards the "easiest dumbest person using it" install madwifi and or get a copy that works for an atheros card.

However, upon issuing the 'make' command, it stalled saying that that it cannot detect the /lib/modules/2.6.9-89.0.19.ELsmp/build directory. Here is the output:

ive installed ubuntu for netbook on my laptop, everything went fine, it installed ok, and it was all good, until i tried clicking on the icon im supposed to click on to get conncected to wifi. where it's supposed to have various wireless networks it says "device not ready (firmware missing)" and ive tried everything i can think of to get it working, but it wont work. the same thing happens with my desktop computer, but with ubuntu desktop 10.10 and linux mint... but with the desktop, its probably just a case of finding drivers for my specific wireless adapter, in which case can anyone tell me where i can find the driver for a belkin F6D4050ea for linux?

I call YAST, get the small authentication screen, I give the right password, which seems to be recognized as such, but I never see YAST appearing. Installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot with win7 yesterday. Everything working but Wifi. Wifi works fine with Win7. No Wifi in Ubuntu. Very confused. I have info from the wifi trouble ticket post.There does not seem to be a driver for this card anywhere.

I have a pc which has 2 network cards, 1 wifi and 1 ethernet card.
I'm using wifi card to connect to wifi network (internet) and i'm planing to share this wifi/internet connection via ethernet to wireless router (siemens sx763) so i can have internet on my other devices, e.g. mobile phone, laptop.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.
