I want to install an iso from network. eg. I will boot the machine from network (pxe boot) & it will show me the list of iso files (whether linux or windows or any iso) & i can select any iso & install the os. how can i do this or is there any open source s/w available for this?

After the install wubi works fine (except it hangs for like 1 minute saying Try hd(0,0) NTFS5: no wubildr), but windows 7 cant connect to the internet anymore. if i run ipconfig, it lests my ethernet adapter, but says that no network connection avaiable, the troubleshooter advises to plug in my ethernet cable. (it is plugged in, the net from ubuntu works fine.) Heres the output from lspci, dunno if helps:

I have 3 computers. One running openSuse 11.3 with SAMBA and the other 2 are Windows 7 Professional boxes. I have the same user name and passwords for all three boxes.
From the Linux box I can access one of the Windows 7 boxes but the other won't accept my user name and password. The one that won't accept has Windows LiveID Sign-In Assistant installed. Apparantly that's an automatic install now.
I've read that there is a bug with the SAMBA libsmbclient [URL].
I tried updating via YAST but still end up with version 3.5.4-5.1.2 and this doesn't work.
I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.5. I am trying to browse to the Windows machines on my network (Places > Network Servers > Windows Network), but I get a blank window. I am able to ping the Windows machines using their IP address, but not by their name. What do I need to do to be able to see the Windows machines and also to connect to shared folders on these machines? So far I have tried starting SMB (via System > Administration > Server Settings > Services). I have also tried changing my smb workgroup to "WORKGROUP" (the default was mygroup which did not match my Windows machines.

I can ping / trace all addresses from OpenSuse console. But I Can't wget all of them... It's a random thing. the same address that trace's ok, don't work for HTTP.

According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.
I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.
I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.
I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.
I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).
I am running out of ideas anyone got a clue.
Background: I'm a 20+ year Mac user, switched four years ago to Linux.I have NO experience with Windows to speak of. Whenever I've gotten a new box, it's either been home-built or a Mac.Now I have a new Acer Aspire AS7551 laptop, and although I have not yet booted into Windows, it comes with a Windows 7 Home Premium license. I've been running it with Ubuntu 10.04 off a flash drive and everything works perfectly.
What I want to do: I want to wipe the disk, install Lucid, and run Windows in Virtualbox (for the sole purpose of watching some Netflix and learning a little bit about Windows 7). For the purpose of this question, please accept that I DO NOT want to dual boot.The problem: From what I can find, I can't use the "recovery discs" that came with my laptop to create a virtual machine. This is confusing, because it seems like I paid for a legitimate Windows license for use with this laptop.
Questions:
1. Would MS exchange my recovery discs for a regular install disc to go with my license code if I explained this to them?
2. If not, is there a source for Windows ISOs that I can safely use with my license? (I am aware that the legitimacy of that approach is questionable, but I am quite comfortable with the ethics since I paid for Windows 7, own the license, and only want to use it on the same computer.
3.If not,is there any way in heck I can use my recovery disc to create something Virtualbox can work with?
4. If not, how are all of you people getting your Windows virtual machines going??
(I have read that Acer is a major hassle to get a refund from for the "Windows tax" so I might as well be able to use it--this is MS' chance to win over a fan if only they will let me!)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
I've just installed openSUSE 11.2, one problem is suse didn't find an internet connection when suse performed the ..."automatic system configuration. This routine attempts to configure your network and Internet access and sets up your hardware"... Where can I manually configure the network. I'm in the network folder now no luck. View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed 11.3 kde. When running the live cd both wireless and ethernet devices appeared in the network connections manager utility. I even connected to a wireless AP.I just booted up for the first time and none of these devices are available. There is no network manager icon in the system tray, and when the network manager utility is maually opened the only connection type i can select is vpn.I know that opensuse should be able to recognize these devices since they were available and working via the live cd, so can anyone help me restore them?
One extra piece of info, is that I am sharing a home directory with a gnome ubuntu install. there were a few minor issues i dealt with initially, but i didnt need to change this user's UID like I have had to do in the past so that's good. Each time i open a terminal I get two pieces of output assuming from the bash startup saying something like.URL...I highly doubt that these problems are related, but figured I'd post. Also if someone knows the solution to that as well, that would save me a bit of googling.
I've read that, when configuring a dual-boot system, you should install Windows first to avoid any issues.Some questions: I'm assuming this has to do with the boot loader so: How is Windows boot loader so different that this matters? If I'm totally off, please explain.Is this the same case with Windows 7 and Windows XP? I have more than enough power to run the System this is a Custom Built $1700 Gaming Rig.So i downloaded the Installer and choose the 500GB Drive which is not the Windows Drive for Ubuntu to install to. The installer went through Successfully no issues i did the Reboot as Prompted and Choose the Ubuntu from the Duel Boot Screen but when it loads it can not find any Build information. What did i do wrong?Could it be that i need to have it attached to the same drive as my Windows operating System or am i not doing something correctly? Yesterday I recieved update notification from SuSE and updated machine. Now after restart eth0 is not comming up. In Hardware profile I can see Network Card but it is not configured automatically. I don't know how to configure it. Virtualbox Networking was working before latest update and just tried in other virtual machines.

I attend a community college that has 5 campuses. All campuses have wireless networks. For two weeks I have been trying to connect to their network with my netbook (Ubuntu 8.04) with no luck. I call the IT department today and they tell me that their network ONLY supports Windows XP. Windows 7, Vista, and all Linux OSes are unable to connect. The network shows up but will not connect. They do not know what the problem is or how to fix it.

I have checked the smb.conf file against the 9.04 server which has the same configuration as the 9.10 server. It's strange that the 9.04 version server is working perfectly and the latest version 9.10 is not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using 10.4 desktop and currently got everything setup the way i like it, but when sharing my network folder I can see the folders and everything seems fine then when i click to access the files it gives me an error message of not having permission to the folders. I tried going into the basic permissions tab in folder properties like you normally would with ntfs permission sharing in windows (don't know if thats how things work in Ubuntu but i gave it a try) and nothing would change when trying to change read/write permissions or read only permissions.

The only thing that seems different is the number of open sessions in the modem, Linux only uses 2, and Windows uses 80. My guess is that the modem uses sessions to control the bandwidth, but I don't know how to add sessions to Linux networking to compete for bandwidth. I did test in the same browser.
