OpenSUSE Network :: No Network After Update Install

I have configured OpenSuSE 11.1 in VirtualBox and Networking was working fine and I was able to access network. Yesterday I recieved update notification from SuSE and updated machine. Now after restart eth0 is not comming up. In Hardware profile I can see Network Card but it is not configured automatically. I don't know how to configure it. Virtualbox Networking was working before latest update and just tried in other virtual machines.

I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP

Installed a security update for samba tonight via Opensuse updater.Now, when trying to access my home network an authentication box pops up (never used to)Asks me to enter authentication for my home network.I enter my username and password and hit enter. After a few seconds the authentication box pops up again askingfor the same indicating I have entered the wrong username / password combination (which I know I have not).

I have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

I have no Internet Access with Firefox
I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.
I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.
I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.
I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.
I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).
I am running out of ideas anyone got a clue.

I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.

I've just installed openSUSE 11.2, one problem is suse didn't find an internet connection when suse performed the ..."automatic system configuration. This routine attempts to configure your network and Internet access and sets up your hardware"... Where can I manually configure the network. I'm in the network folder now no luck. Just installed 11.3 kde. When running the live cd both wireless and ethernet devices appeared in the network connections manager utility. I even connected to a wireless AP.I just booted up for the first time and none of these devices are available. There is no network manager icon in the system tray, and when the network manager utility is maually opened the only connection type i can select is vpn.I know that opensuse should be able to recognize these devices since they were available and working via the live cd, so can anyone help me restore them?
One extra piece of info, is that I am sharing a home directory with a gnome ubuntu install. there were a few minor issues i dealt with initially, but i didnt need to change this user's UID like I have had to do in the past so that's good. Each time i open a terminal I get two pieces of output assuming from the bash startup saying something like.URL...I highly doubt that these problems are related, but figured I'd post. Also if someone knows the solution to that as well, that would save me a bit of googling.

On Linux Mint (Gnome) i used to go to Network drive. that is on the right hand side of Nautilus there is a short cut for Network. in there i could see my network hard drive and other laptops connected to the network, and i could access my files. but on OpenSuse, when i open the network folder, nothing comes up. may be it needs some sort of configuration.

Everytime since yesterday (friday, March, the 4th), when automatic updates appears on my screen, a message is displayed:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download /repodata/repomd.xml from [URL]
Do I have to remove that package from my repositorie list ?

I tried to update my fully-working 64-bit 11.1 system to 11.2. I used the network install and chose the Update option. It took a few hours so I didn't sit through the entire installation but when I returned the 11.2 login screen was displayed. Having logged in, however, I found that I couldn't access the network.The boot log showed that network had failed to start. "ifconfig" lists only the "lo" interface. "ifstatus eth0" returns "Interface eth0 is not available"
Network Settings in YaST lists 2 entries in the Overview tab. The first entry has Name:"NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express" and IP Address: "Not configured".The detail pane for this entry shows "NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (Not connected) BusID:0000:3f00.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details". The Edit and Delete buttons are both disabled for this entry.
The second entry has exactly the same name as the first with the IP Address listed as "DHCP4". I assume this was the entry that was carried over from the 11.1 system. The detail pane for this entry shows "NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (No hwinfo) Device Name: eth0. Started automatically at boot. IP address assigned using DHCP4". The Edit and Delete buttons are both enabled for this entry.lspci reports "3f:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)"
lsmod lists only "edd", "loop", "sr_mod", "sg", "cdrom" and "dm_mod".
The files in /etc/sysconfig/network/ are "if-down.d/", "if-up.d/", "providers/", "scripts/", "config", "dhcp", "ifcfg-eth0", "ifcfg-lo", "ifcfg.template", "ifroute-lo",

I am experiencing the "slow internet" problem (mentioned multiple times in these forums) but it started exactly when I ran an online update, which switched my boot image from vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.1 to vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.2. Perhaps a setting somewhere got overridden? When the update occurred, grub couldn't find the OS because it had the wrong version #, and I manually edited it (via a livedisk) and that fixed it; it also switched my vga resolution in the grub conf. OpenSUSE is *acting* like ipv6 is enabled again, but ifconfig doesn't report that, and my MTU is close to 1500.

I just recently setup a OpenSUSE 11.3 server with Xrdp which I got from the 11.1 tutorial. Everything had been working great until yesterday I let the system run a update and now whenever I try to login I get login failed. When I look in xrdp-sesman.log file it says X server died. I've searched around for this problem and it seems there is some talk about it from a few years back but nothing as of recent and nothing that has worked so far. I'm kinda at a loss with this and really would like to get it up and running again.

Just bought new laptop i7 with broadcom wireless, intalled opensuse 11.3 x64. I had major trouble to make it work... Even compiled kernel 2.6.37-rc6, but didnt go.Then I took drivers and firmware from git repositories, compiled, did what it was necessary and I made it work.This morning, (since system was new), I just did zypper upgrade (nothing new installed from default installation, I just added packman to repos).And, now wireless is not working. In network manager, option "enable wireless" is disabled.I went to YaST, put network on ifup, it did scan networks, but cant make it work either. Turned it back to network manager, but same thing.Module brcm80211 is loaded, but I cannot make wireless work.

My sons computer /w 11.4 x64 installed a week ago, was working fine till he wanted to play with Blender.So he installed it and it would not run because im lazy and did not instruct him on installing NVidia drivers for his vid card. He added the repo and I had him run update instead of just software management (my bad) anyhow ran the update and there were updates with driver install, rebooted Blender works now.But the nic card sates its not connected in yast no ip in root terminal /w ifconfig info there for nic mac addy and such, tried reboots and reconfig in yast no joy. Dual boot into his windblows and the nic work perfect so not hardware issue.

Knetworkmanager says it is connected, i have a dhcp ip, gateway, and cannot access internet.... i tried to configure from yast and cannot access internet...

I tried to set up my internet connection using the network manager and not the classic iufp method. At first it just didn't work but after deactivating IPv6 I got it working: firefox can connect to the internet. What troubles me is the online update with Update Applet. The following message pops up: "Error: packageKit error repo-not-available: Failed to download /media fromAlso when I go to Yast->Software->Software repositories I get the msg:Systemadministration is blocked by PID 2459 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd). I updated Firefox today via Yast, since this time it doesn't show any page.I choosed in Configuration no proxy.The sites are empty, nothing just white.I also tried a downgrade to the previous version, didn't help.The Firewall I deactivated for test in Yast, too.A new profile didn't help, starting as administrator either not.

In previous openSUSE versions I was using WICD as network manager. I upgraded my openSUSE to 11.4 and resolved give a try to the NetworkManager. I can get network connection, but the dhcp doesn't update the /etc/resolv.conf, so I can't navigate because the dns isnt set.
I tried to reinstall all related packages (dhcp, dns and networkmanager) without success.
If I run dhcpcd the resolv.conf get updated, but dhclient doesn't do the same. It seems that's a dhclient script issues, but I don't know how to test.

I've been kind of spoiled by Slackware, where updating an installation without networking is just a matter of storing all the updated packages somewhere (directory, CD, USB, etc.) and doing a:

I'm trying to figure out how to achieve similar simplicity on Ubuntu (specifically, Ubuntu 8.10). I know how to update the packages on the live CD itself (and have done it several times), but in this particular case I need to install using the unedited, official CD.
I'm currently looking at this (and will set up a VirtualBox image to try it out), but it seems to me like the actual packages are never even mentioned in the article, only the meta-data. I need to be able to do an apt-get update/upgrade on this box and have it use the updated packages which I will have stored on a mounted filesystem.

I recently updated my kernel and now can no longer tether my iphone to my openSUSE11.3(x64) laptop. Before the update I could tether.Same machine dual boots to Win7-64bit and can tether just fine.I re-installed the libimobile packages, but my linux no longer recognizes the iphone as a network device.t DOES pop-up some boxes asking if I want to play the media, or view the photos on the iPhone - so that part is working
