I need help finding some software / or anything to make an installable image or live CD of my Debian OS on a PowerPC iBook. I've tried a few options, but i can't seem to get any of them working because of the PowerPC.

Everything was going smoothly until I got to the 'Configuring xen-tools and building our guest' section (two thirds down the page).
I installed xen-tools and then typed the following in a terminal window (as root):
xen-create-image --hostname=development-pv-guest --memory=2048mb --vcpus=2 --lvm=develop --dhcp --pygrub --dist=jessie
I admit PV is new to me, compared to simple HVM, so I have a number of questions:
1. Why the command not found error?
2. Should I be booting from the Xen option or regular boot option at the start up screen when creating the xen image? I've tried both and get the same error message.
3. I have Debian 8 (Jessie) installed on my system and I wasn't sure whether I should therefore make this the guest OS in my Xen PV. In asking this question I'm thinking in terms of HVMs - but I assume my Xen PV needs a guest OS of some kind? Or is my host Debian 8 already acting as a guest OS in Xen PV? I'm confused
4. If I do need to install a guest OS, is it better to go for an earlier version of debian - so as not to be so resource hungry?
I'm nervous about screwing up my host debian installation, so when I got the error message, did some research but found nothing meaningful. I don't want to end up having to reinstall my Debian 8 (base OS) ... again!
I have an old scanner script that uses pamthreshold to create a small greyscale image of a text document. This program does not seem to be available in debian. Can anyone tell me how I can install it, or if there are any better alternatives available?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wish to use my laptop to create a system for my Soekris 4801. I don't want to take the server down for the lengthy install ( took 6 hours last time, Fedora 5 ). I want to create the image on a USB drive for the 586 Soekris server on my 686 HP laptop. Then scp the image to the Soekris and reboot and configure the server.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded Debian/PowerPC_lenny from http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst. The netinst CD or the minimal CD for some reason doesn't boot. When I put it in the CD-ROM it doesn't begin whatever it has to do. Do I need to do anything? I restart my iBook G4 (1.33 GHz PowerPC G4) several times and held the "c" button (for CD-ROM) but nothing has happened. I wonder if someone can help me begin the installation process.
FYI, I have partitioned my hard drive into two volumes. I would like to install Debian in one of them. I *do not* want my Mac OS X to get disappeared in the Debian installation process. So please help me if you would as to how I can (1) boot Debian minimal CD and (2) install Debian on one of the two volumes I have on my iBook.
I've tried to compile it by myself, but since I do not know all libraries / compiler programs and assistant programs to be installed beforhand, great frustration has appeared ("g++ not available" etc. ...)Is anybody here who can publish a simple and perfectly understandable tutorial of how to compile Truecrypt for PowerPC architecture from source?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new using linux and don't have too much experience in terminal, however I am curious and work hard. I have an imac G5 powerpc with 2g processor, 768 mb ram and 232.7g hard disk. I recentrly installed debian 8.0.0 (jessie) with xfce environement. I have three other computers (two with xununtu runing and one with windows) using dropbox to sync all my work in differents places, so I use dropbox to get all synchronized. I don't want to change all the pc's to other cloud service, I would like to install dropbox in this machine.
I installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl, pear-channels and pho-dropbox packages from the synptic package manager with the hope to use dropbox...but I dind't even find something colled dropbox in the pc.
My question is: is it possible to install and use dropbox in this powerpc machine ? if yes, is there a tuto (for dumps) to get it ?
Just wondering if there were any NES, SNES, etc emulators compatable with PowerPC Debian?
Not entirely sure if they will run well, but can't hurt to give it a try.

I have just installed Squeeze on my 5+ year old iBook G4 and it runs quite nicely and quite fast! I am very happy with it overall. Finally I have been able toinstall Debian on a piece of hardware. Dual boot is generally hopeless on Macs. So this is a single boot setup and I am quite happy with it. I have two major issues right now:1. There's something wrong with the sound system. I get the following error message when I clickon the small x to the right of Volume Control (on the upper right corner of my screen). See attached screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to get be able to upload and get stuff from dropbox on my powerpc install of wheezy. Debian does not have the app for powerpc machine in stable or testing. There is a thunar extension in sid but i do not want to risk breaking my system so I decided to grab the wheezy source and compile myself. I am sure I have all the dependencies however I am I am getting this error. See below

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to set up MintPPC on my girlfriend's old iBook. I started with the debian squeeze installation from a burned cd. Everything went fine and i booted into the new system.
No matter what I try to install I get that error, with different sectors each time. I can install .debs using dpkg just fine, I can compile source code. apt-get just won't work.I've been reading about this for hours, and the machine is currently running e2fsck -c on the main filesystem. It is a more or less never ending stream of those errors with a few that reference task_pio_intr rather than dma_intr thrown in for good measure.I've been reading for hours but I haven't found anything on the google or forums that matches my problem(or atleast not that I could understand).
From my research I've tried hdparm to change the DMA mode, slower and faster and no luck, removing the .bins in one of the apt folders, and reinstalling debian.I've read the posts I could find on here, and mostly the problem seemed to be intermittent for them. For me it is only when I use apt-get, and now apparently e2fsck(badblocks). It happens every single time with apt, I can't use it to install anything. But i've done plenty of other file operations without a bump.Any suggestions would be most welcome! Especially an in depth explanation of what that message means. I'm happy to do my own research and work, I just have no idea what's going on!
I have a Canon iR3570/iR4570 PXL, and installed the driver CQue 1.0 TCP/IP Queue from Canon webpage.
The problem:
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Calc with an image and text, the image is not printed (the space is blank).
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Calc with just an image, it's printed great.
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Impress, the images are not printed but the text is printed great.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI do not know if this is possible, but I have a laptop in another country that I visit quite frequently. I wish to re build it in Ubuntu from the image of a mcahine I have here such that when I set it up I need not go on line for updates and installed apps.
A couple of reasons for this.
Internet in this other country is by land line and VERY expensive and slow
It would be useful if it were an image as I am happy with the install on the laptop I have here,, and do not want to spend an age on my hols configuring and installing and playing about... Just install Ubuntu from my CD and then the image to create the same machine.....
I just downloaded the FEDORA iso image file. Naturally, the next step is to create a DVD. The problem is I'm using a mininetbook hith no DVD unit and I have not an external one, so I think I can use the USB as an alternative, but I just don't find how to in the documentation, and the applications to burn DVD's dont have the option... how can I do this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded a bootable DOS iso CD image that I have burnt to CD and can boot from.I need to add more disk checking utilities to the CD iso image.The DOS disk checking utilities are designed to be run from a floppy disk, but my laptop does not have a floppy drive, so CD-ROM is an alternative, if I can remaster the existing iso image file?Can I mount the DOS iso file and then add other programs to it, and then remaster the updated iso, and make a new CD-ROM to boot from with the added tools?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk, have a system with 10.10 with the things I need, I installed this OS on a laptop which has a 40gb drive. 32-bit version. Before installing ubuntu i had Windows7 and had split the drive in 2 partitions (20/20) and currently have an image of the Windows7 OS in the 2nd partition.
Anyway, when installing ubuntu i used the 1st partition that has Windows7 OS and made 3 partitions out of it:
-12gb partition for /root
- 3gb partition for /swap
- 5gb partition for /home
In the Windows world i use Ghost utility(DOS version) to image my single Windows7 partition completely. This works fine.
Since in ubuntu we usually create multiple partitions,
1-what utility can be used to create an image of the partition ?
2-do you JUST create the image of /root ?
I really want to create an image now that i can then restore if something happens to the OS and be back in business quickly without reinstalling ubuntu from scratch.
I want to create a image of a partition using dd. The partition is 80GB but only 15 GB are used. I booted from a live CD and run this command to backup 20 GB

Ok, so I have installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, setup the wireless adapter (why is this so difficult?) and installed a few applications. I do like the look of openSUSE but would like to check out a few other flavours. With my Windows 7 (can I say that here?) machines I can create a system image and a system restore CD with a fair amount of ease. Is there a similar process available for Linux?
