Debian Programming :: Compiling Nautilus-dropbox For PowerPC

Jan 17, 2015

I am wanting to get be able to upload and get stuff from dropbox on my powerpc install of wheezy. Debian does not have the app for powerpc machine in stable or testing. There is a thunar extension in sid but i do not want to risk breaking my system so I decided to grab the wheezy source and compile myself. I am sure I have all the dependencies however I am I am getting this error. See below

rican-linux@debian-ppc:~/Build/source/nautilus-dropbox-1.4.0$ debuild -us -uc
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -D -us -uc
dpkg-buildpackage: source package nautilus-dropbox
dpkg-buildpackage: source version 1.4.0-3
dpkg-buildpackage: source changed by Raphaël Hertzog <hertzog@debian.org>

Debian :: How To Install Dropbox On Jessie PowerPC

May 31, 2015

I am new using linux and don't have too much experience in terminal, however I am curious and work hard. I have an imac G5 powerpc with 2g processor, 768 mb ram and 232.7g hard disk. I recentrly installed debian 8.0.0 (jessie) with xfce environement. I have three other computers (two with xununtu runing and one with windows) using dropbox to sync all my work in differents places, so I use dropbox to get all synchronized. I don't want to change all the pc's to other cloud service, I would like to install dropbox in this machine.

I installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl, pear-channels and pho-dropbox packages from the synptic package manager with the hope to use dropbox...but I dind't even find something colled dropbox in the pc.

My question is: is it possible to install and use dropbox in this powerpc machine ? if yes, is there a tuto (for dumps) to get it ?

Debian :: Nautilus-dropbox Installation On Wheezy

Nov 9, 2014

I added the following line to my sources.list

Code: Select alldeb [URL] ..... wheezy main non-free

and then after:

Code: Select allapt-get update

I run:

Code: Select allapt-get install nautilus-dropbox

but I got stuck (console freeze) and I had to reboot hoping to sort out somehow...

After reboot I try to apt-get again but I got the following message (my traslation)

Code: Select allE: dpkg was interrupted.

It's  necessary to do "sudo dpkg --configure -a" for correcting the problem

So I went in the console again for that command and I get

Code: Select allConfigurazione di nautilus-dropbox (1.4.0-3)...

Dropbox is the easiest way to share and store your files online. [URL] ....

but nothing fruitful seems to happen; and now how to proceed?

Ubuntu :: Dropbox Changed Nautilus Apperance

Apr 20, 2011

I just installed Dropbox. When install completed the appearance of nautilus changed. It looks atrocious - like a 1990s Apple O/S.I guess I shall have to uninstall Dropbox. Last time I tried using it on Ubuntu a year or so ago, I binned it because it stopped working.I just tried changing the Appearnce settings. That's not made any difference. It's doesn't seem to be merely a colour theme that's changed. The actual icons are different. Everything's been squared off. Nautilus icons have lost their nice rounded edges. This might seem minor but it matters. And assuming Dropbox is the cause of this, what else is it making a mess of?

Fedora Installation :: Nautilus Opens Only Through Dropbox Folder

Aug 25, 2011

I just did a clean install and started with the software installation. After I installed dropbox, a window popped up asking me for administrator's password....I put in my user password and it said wrong password (i just now remembered not adding myself to administrator's group while creating my user...ouch!) after which a notficiation came and went too fast for me to read it properly....it said something like unable to set user /etc/x something something.....I know it sounds completely vague but that is all I could before it disappeared.

Now, nautilus won't open unless I click on the dropbox icon below in the taskbar.I guess I can manage for a while but I'm hoping to find a solution to the problem.

I would like to use DropBox, but I really don't want Nautilus on my system.I downloaded the source to compile, thinking it would allow me to use a different file browser, but unfortunately it seems they made it dependent on Nautilus. Is there a way to compile it using a different file browser (Thunar in this case)? And if not, is there an alternative to DropBox out there that works on multiple platforms?

Debian Programming :: Cross Compiling With Qt

Dec 11, 2014

I am trying to cross-compile my Qt application for armhf on Jessie, so what I did was install qt5-default:armhf, but when I tried running qmake I found out that it contains also an armhf version of qmake so I was not able to run it.Then I installed the amd64 version to have at least a runnable version of qmake, but it was only to find out that qmake contains only hardcoded paths, so I could not use it for the armhf libraries, well I could but I had to run qmake (amd64 version) and afterwards open the makefile and change all paths from amd64 to armhf.

But as this is not so convenient I was wondering if there is a normal way to do this, I know you can compile the source yourself but I had quite a lot of problems with dependencies there. Is it possible with the standard repository binaries or should I just go back to compiling the source myself? Maybe I can compile only the building tools without building all the libraries I already got from the repository.

Debian Programming :: LMMS Not Compiling With VST Support

May 22, 2015

I did see another topic on this forum regarding VSTs in LMMS, but it didn't solve my problem. I am running using the 64-bit testing branch of debian, which may be causing some of my problems. I tried compiling LMMS myself, but I ran into an issue with wine when it tried to compile RemoteVstPlugin.

It seems as though wine didn't install winegcc or any other tools like that. After a while, I did manage to find winegcc and some of the other tools in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/wine/bin. I decided to add some symlinks in /usr/local/bin to point to winegcc, wineg++, winecpp, and winebuild. After that, it seemed to give a different error message, but still failed to compile. It now gives me the following error:

Code: Select all[ 83%] Generating RemoteVstPlugin
/usr/bin/ld: Relocatable linking with relocations from format elf64-x86-64 (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/wine/wine/libwinecrt0.a(exe_entry.o)) to format elf32-i386 (RemoteVstPlugin.Azfbf1.o) is not supported
winebuild: /usr/bin/ld failed with status 1

[Code] ....

I may be missing some dependencies because I couldn't run build-dep without removing skype but I don't think that's the problem. I thought the above problem may have something to do with wine, so I was going to try compiling wine to. I ran into problems with that, and ditched that idea. I really don't know what to do anymore. I can't just disable VST support, because that's why I tried to compile LMMS by myself to begin with!

Debian Programming :: Error Compiling Qalculate From Source?

Feb 15, 2014

I'm trying to install the calculator Qalculate from source so I download the tar.gz package for KDE from their official website to my ~/Downloads folder. I unzipped it with

Code: Select all tar xzf qalculate-kde-0.9.7.tar.gz

I moved the exploded folder to my /home/guest/ folder (my user-name is guest), I entered the qalculate-kde-0.9.7 folder and searched for a INSTALL or README file. Here's what the INSTALL file says to do. The INSTALL file says to run the following commands

Code: Select all./configure
Code: Select allmake
Code: Select allmake install
Code: Select allmake clean

After giving the first command, trouble started; here's what I got:

Code: Select allroot@aliquis:/home/guest/qalculate-kde-0.9.7# ./configure
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking for -p flag to install... yes

[Code] .....

This is impossible, as I am running a fully functioning kde system. What should I do? I don't find the kde version of Qalculate in Apper...

Debian Programming :: Compiling Linux Kernel Module

Aug 27, 2014

I'm trying to compile a Linux kernel module called hello-2.c using the command "make -C /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build M=${PWD} modules" (without the quotes) (which I found online), and the following is the (seemingly successful) output.:

Code: Select allmake: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64'
  Building modules, stage 2.
  MODPOST 0 modules
make: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64'

However, I don't see a hello-2.ko (in the same folder or anywhere else for that matter). I'm Using Debian GNU/Linux 7.6.

Everything I am doing is within a folder/directory called "thefolder" (without the quotes) in the "/tmp" directory (without the quotes).

Why I can't see a hello-2.ko, and what to do to get it?

Debian Installation :: Installing Debian On IBook G4 / PowerPC

Jul 17, 2010

I have downloaded Debian/PowerPC_lenny from http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst. The netinst CD or the minimal CD for some reason doesn't boot. When I put it in the CD-ROM it doesn't begin whatever it has to do. Do I need to do anything? I restart my iBook G4 (1.33 GHz PowerPC G4) several times and held the "c" button (for CD-ROM) but nothing has happened. I wonder if someone can help me begin the installation process.

FYI, I have partitioned my hard drive into two volumes. I would like to install Debian in one of them. I *do not* want my Mac OS X to get disappeared in the Debian installation process. So please help me if you would as to how I can (1) boot Debian minimal CD and (2) install Debian on one of the two volumes I have on my iBook.

I get the following error message when I clickon the small x to the right of Volume Control (on the upper right corner of my screen). See attached screen shot.

General :: Debian Squeeze PowerPC On IBook / Relentless DriveReady SeekComplete Errors

Jan 28, 2011

I've been trying to set up MintPPC on my girlfriend's old iBook. I started with the debian squeeze installation from a burned cd. Everything went fine and i booted into the new system.

No matter what I try to install I get that error, with different sectors each time. I can install .debs using dpkg just fine, I can compile source code. apt-get just won't work.I've been reading about this for hours, and the machine is currently running e2fsck -c on the main filesystem. It is a more or less never ending stream of those errors with a few that reference task_pio_intr rather than dma_intr thrown in for good measure.I've been reading for hours but I haven't found anything on the google or forums that matches my problem(or atleast not that I could understand).

From my research I've tried hdparm to change the DMA mode, slower and faster and no luck, removing the .bins in one of the apt folders, and reinstalling debian.I've read the posts I could find on here, and mostly the problem seemed to be intermittent for them. For me it is only when I use apt-get, and now apparently e2fsck(badblocks). It happens every single time with apt, I can't use it to install anything. But i've done plenty of other file operations without a bump.Any suggestions would be most welcome! Especially an in depth explanation of what that message means. I'm happy to do my own research and work, I just have no idea what's going on!
