I've tried to compile it by myself, but since I do not know all libraries / compiler programs and assistant programs to be installed beforhand, great frustration has appeared ("g++ not available" etc. ...)Is anybody here who can publish a simple and perfectly understandable tutorial of how to compile Truecrypt for PowerPC architecture from source?

I've been trying to set up MintPPC on my girlfriend's old iBook. I started with the debian squeeze installation from a burned cd. Everything went fine and i booted into the new system.
No matter what I try to install I get that error, with different sectors each time. I can install .debs using dpkg just fine, I can compile source code. apt-get just won't work.I've been reading about this for hours, and the machine is currently running e2fsck -c on the main filesystem. It is a more or less never ending stream of those errors with a few that reference task_pio_intr rather than dma_intr thrown in for good measure.I've been reading for hours but I haven't found anything on the google or forums that matches my problem(or atleast not that I could understand).
From my research I've tried hdparm to change the DMA mode, slower and faster and no luck, removing the .bins in one of the apt folders, and reinstalling debian.I've read the posts I could find on here, and mostly the problem seemed to be intermittent for them. For me it is only when I use apt-get, and now apparently e2fsck(badblocks). It happens every single time with apt, I can't use it to install anything. But i've done plenty of other file operations without a bump.Any suggestions would be most welcome! Especially an in depth explanation of what that message means. I'm happy to do my own research and work, I just have no idea what's going on!
Debian Squeeze freezes with blurred image and no access to other terminals after installation or internet upgrade from Lenny. Lenny works fine.So how could Debian Squeeze be installed or be upgraded from Lenny on PPC without this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded Debian/PowerPC_lenny from http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst. The netinst CD or the minimal CD for some reason doesn't boot. When I put it in the CD-ROM it doesn't begin whatever it has to do. Do I need to do anything? I restart my iBook G4 (1.33 GHz PowerPC G4) several times and held the "c" button (for CD-ROM) but nothing has happened. I wonder if someone can help me begin the installation process.
FYI, I have partitioned my hard drive into two volumes. I would like to install Debian in one of them. I *do not* want my Mac OS X to get disappeared in the Debian installation process. So please help me if you would as to how I can (1) boot Debian minimal CD and (2) install Debian on one of the two volumes I have on my iBook.
Currently this PC has Ubuntu installed on it and it barely boots from HDD but crashes at logon, and just loops back to the boot device select screen when CD is selected.
I'm wondering if there is anyway to install a version of Debian on the G5 using my windows 7 tower PC and a spare SATA HDD?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new using linux and don't have too much experience in terminal, however I am curious and work hard. I have an imac G5 powerpc with 2g processor, 768 mb ram and 232.7g hard disk. I recentrly installed debian 8.0.0 (jessie) with xfce environement. I have three other computers (two with xununtu runing and one with windows) using dropbox to sync all my work in differents places, so I use dropbox to get all synchronized. I don't want to change all the pc's to other cloud service, I would like to install dropbox in this machine.
I installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl, pear-channels and pho-dropbox packages from the synptic package manager with the hope to use dropbox...but I dind't even find something colled dropbox in the pc.
My question is: is it possible to install and use dropbox in this powerpc machine ? if yes, is there a tuto (for dumps) to get it ?
Just wondering if there were any NES, SNES, etc emulators compatable with PowerPC Debian?
Not entirely sure if they will run well, but can't hurt to give it a try.
I have just installed Squeeze on my 5+ year old iBook G4 and it runs quite nicely and quite fast! I am very happy with it overall. Finally I have been able toinstall Debian on a piece of hardware. Dual boot is generally hopeless on Macs. So this is a single boot setup and I am quite happy with it. I have two major issues right now:1. There's something wrong with the sound system. I get the following error message when I clickon the small x to the right of Volume Control (on the upper right corner of my screen). See attached screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to get be able to upload and get stuff from dropbox on my powerpc install of wheezy. Debian does not have the app for powerpc machine in stable or testing. There is a thunar extension in sid but i do not want to risk breaking my system so I decided to grab the wheezy source and compile myself. I am sure I have all the dependencies however I am I am getting this error. See below

View 7 Replies View Related've been using truecrypt for quite sometime now and, because of that, I want to make a .deb package out of the x86_64 precompiled tarball one's able to download via their site. I'd gain know how on this specific package building, would integrate the resulting package in the apt-management, etc..How can I do this? No "making" required. It is just a .deb repack of the precompiled truecrypt.

-> selected the file to mount,
-> entered the correct password
then Truecrypt asked for the USER or ADMIN password. Enter either password brings me back to the same input screen asking for USER or ADMIN for password.
is it possible to mount a truecrypt file container as a home directory before login, if so how to do that?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Truecrypt-encrypted Windows [system] partition, that I want to be opened and mounted automatically (using a keyfile) when I log into Debian, since it is also encrypted and I don't want to type two passphrases. It think this could be done with LUKS. With TC I probably have to go with the CLI, but haven't figured it out yet. And I can't add a keyfile to the volume using the GUI. In order to mount the volume I have to tick the Mount partition using system encryption (preboot authentication) checkbox, or otherwise I get Incorrect password or no TrueCrypt volume found. And same when I try to add a keyfile.

I like to have some stuff down the right hand side when running Firefox and OpenOffice in the main panes. Any configuration tricks welcome. Modern screens are the wrong shape!
I've just install debian squeeze version, or the testing one, but I am not really happy with it. Is not listening me all the time. If I install the debian stable I don't have internet connection. Is it possible to update the kernel somehow using the testing version?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install a command line Debian Squeeze system on n Eee PC 701., but have run into a number of problems:
1) All install info I can find assumes that the person wants to install a GUI system of some sort.
2) The Eee PC has a unique 2 MB. partition that needs to be preserved, so no guided install.
3) The Eee PC has an SSD instead of an HD. Most postings I have seen recommend an install without a swap partition, but the install (both live and text) seems to choke and despite a fresh formatting of the existing partition, claims to be overwriting existing files.
4) I can understand from the wiki that the Eee PC wireless driver (Atheros) should be included in Squeeze, but when the wireless connection and password is added, the installer claims that the password is not correct, despite me having checked it a number of times.
I hope someone can help me out. I just want to use the Eee PC for low resource stuff done on the cli like using a text based web browser to access the net through a wireless router and to hook it up to an external USB HD and to my stereo, to play my music collection.
I installed Firestarter firewall on debian Squeeze.Now i note there is a gui available in System->Administration which apparently does not need to be running all the time - its not set up to start on boot.When I boot I notice the boot message has a line saying "Starting Firestarter firewall .... failed"When I am logged in and type "/etc/init.d/firestarter status" as the Firestarter FAQs say, I get"Firestarter is running... ... (warning)"I can run the gui manually and still same message.
