View 5 Repliesi just downloaded and installed opensuse 11.3 64 bit kde on my laptop.
all my hardware seems to be working fine.
i installed the drivers for my nvidia video card, and 3d is working along with kde's desktop effects.
i installed all my favourite firefox extensions including video downloadhelper downloadhelper - media download firefox extension an extension that can download videos from videos and other video sites.
all of my installed firefox extensions seem to be working except video downloadhelper.
when i try to download videos with it nothing happens.
previously i had opensuse 11.2 gnome 64 bit installed on my laptop, and the video downloadhelper extension worked fine.
i think this problem might have something to do with the way opensuse integrates firefox with kde.
Trying to download the Wikileaks documentary from and downloadhelper gets weirder than usual and get a string of downloads across the screen at the bottom none of which seem to work. Although may be putting deadly viruses into system or something.Is there a reliable way to get a flashplayer styly video stored on the computer? Downloadhelper often does not work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a while of sifting through other threads, I decided none of them could solve my problem. My problem: when I click the Firefox icon on the quick launch sidebar in 11.04, it just blinks and Firefox never opens.
I tried reinstalling Firefox, removing and reinstalling the packages from the Synaptic Package Manager but that's about it. When I type "Firefox" into the command line it says something along the lines of "/home/apw5020/firefox: firefox not found". When I go into usr/bin/firefox and run the shell script directly it will run however. Is the shortcut path non existent or just incorrect? Any idea how I can fix it?
When I run it in Classic, Firefox doesn't work either. By the way, I used some workaround to run Firefox 4 before 11.04 was released involving PPAs.
It seems that there is no way for me to install java plugin in firefox 3.6. I've already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread. Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I start firefox the mouse seems captured by it.I can use the mouse inside the firefox screen (change tabs, use menu, select/paste) but not anywhere else. Even if a popup appears (site wants to register a cookie) then I can only use the keyboard to "ok" it. alt-tab to another window is not possible.Using the mouse in the gome-panel won't work.I can get the mouse pointer anywhere on the screen but mouse clicks don't seem to register. I've had this problem before on 10.04 and the only thing that worked then was to create a new useraccount (a lot of hassle).
edit: The window manager also won't react to the mouse so closing the firefox window is not possible using the windowmanager buttons(X - 0)It's also not limited to Firefox,after I closed firefox via it's menu and then started a gnome-terminal the mouse was caught in that. After closing the gnome-terminal and restarting firefox it degraded even further in that the mouse would'nt even work in the window itself anymore.Only a reboor would reset the problem.
firefox 5 is almost my favourite browser. but there is the following bug: if you configure your Tabs on top (i think its the default setting) you can't access the url-adress-form with the hotkey F6. As workaround you can use F6 and TAB key - but that isn't very comfortable.....

But it still doesn't work. But, when i change the java to 1.6.0_18 32 bit and then changing the reference to i386/libnpjp2.so, then it works. So the problem i have is only when using 64 bit java.
(Beginner)Just installed openSUZE 11.1 Dual boot with Vista. I can set up my wireless settings, wep, etc and it says it connects just fine. But when I try to USE the internet it doesn't work. Nothing in update, nothing in firefox. It says it is connected but it's acting like something is blocking it.

Synaptic Upgrade button is grayed and I am stuck! All came about by accessing following site: [URL]... Had to revert to Firefox on XP (!) to see diagram. Is there a more current (latest) version for Firefox under Ubuntu 10.04 and if so, how do I go about installing it? I tried to download and got a "Status: Error: Conflicts with installed package 'flashplugin installer'" when I clicked on the .deb file.

I downloaded the source from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or...source.tar.bz2, and untarred it. At this point, I should point out that '/usr/include/GL/glx.h' exists. So I suspect one solution would be to persuade firefox to find this, but I haven't found any options that would allow me to do this ("--includedir=/usr/include" doesn't work). I also couldn't find any mention of Mesa in the firefox dependencies, but nor could I find an option to disable WebGL (my suspected solution number 2).
I then tried to install Mesa... However, I use the nvidia driver, which it doesn't seem to support. I do seem to have some sort of Nvidia equivalent (I don't know exactly what) because if I run glxinfo I get:

So... I suspect there are two solutions:
(1) Persuade firefox that yes, a satisfactory OpenGL thingy exists on my system
(2) Disable WebGL support.
I've noticed that the "open containing folder" right-click menu item doesn't work in Firefox 3.6. It does nothing. That action used to open Nautilus, showing the folder where the file had been downloaded. What gives? I set up Firefox long ago to call Nautilus when asked to open a folder. Shouldn't Firefox be asking me what app to use, if it weren't set up properly?

Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?
P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000
