General :: DownLoadHelper On Iceweasel Does Not Work Often?
Dec 13, 2010
Trying to download the Wikileaks documentary from and downloadhelper gets weirder than usual and get a string of downloads across the screen at the bottom none of which seem to work. Although may be putting deadly viruses into system or something. Is there a reliable way to get a flashplayer styly video stored on the computer? Downloadhelper often does not work.

I want to burn VCD's and DVD's from flash videos that will play in a standalone DVD player but have been unsuccessful at finding the correct combination of conversion choices in DownloadHelper. This is my 3rd or 4th request for help on this. Someone out there must be successful at burning. Avidemux, DeVeDe, and DVDStyler have

I ran the command in my terminal:
Code:
$setxkbmap dvorak
And everything is fine. But when I go back to the US keyboard by typing:
Code:
$setxkbmap us
I cannot do Alt+left Arrow to go back in Nautilus or in Iceweasel. Alt+home (in Iceweasel) does not work.
Why won't they work anymore? They only work with the dvorak keybindings.

After using testing (now Wheezy) for almost a year and breaking my machine (latest nvidia broken packages), I went back to vanilla Squeeze (after updates, now at 6.02).Nothing from outside the stable repos; not even the nvidia driver (kept it at default and nouveau)Repo "deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free" enabled. It seems flash is not working with iceweasel; I either have a message which says "Cannot play media: you do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version," with a link to Adobe's site, of media appears in broken pieces. In order to keep my system "clean," I haven't downloaded anything from Adobe, and a search on this forum suggested installing flashplugin-nonfree or flashplayer-mozilla. Did both (can't have them at the same time), restarted, no joy.
~$ apt-cache policy flashplayer-mozilla
flashplayer-mozilla:
Installed: 2:10.3.181.26-0.1

If, theoretically, Iceweasel and Firefox are the same, why WhatsApp Web pictures and audios work on Firefox, but they don't on Iceweasel?
Iceweasel 38.0.1, Firefox 38.0.5. There isn't anything related in the release notes [URL]

Just as the title says: I installed iceweasel 6 in debian squeeze (via mozilla.debian.net) and while errors and requests are captured in the web console, I simply cannot use it to evaluate arbitrary javascript I type in it.
Does anyone have this problem as well? It's been like this since v5 as well. I already tried purging and reinstalling, as well as running with another profile.

i just downloaded and installed opensuse 11.3 64 bit kde on my laptop.
all my hardware seems to be working fine.
i installed the drivers for my nvidia video card, and 3d is working along with kde's desktop effects.
i installed all my favourite firefox extensions including video downloadhelper downloadhelper - media download firefox extension an extension that can download videos from videos and other video sites.
all of my installed firefox extensions seem to be working except video downloadhelper.
when i try to download videos with it nothing happens.
previously i had opensuse 11.2 gnome 64 bit installed on my laptop, and the video downloadhelper extension worked fine.
i think this problem might have something to do with the way opensuse integrates firefox with kde.

I have barebones Debian Lenny, with bare bones Gnome Desktop. I'm using IceWeasel for a browser. I have downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz. from the Adobe website. I have unpacked (I guess) the file using the command
tar -zxvpf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
Now according to the instructions at Adobe - Flash Player 10: Installation instructions
It should be unpacked to a directory with an installer that can be run, but all I get is a single file called libflashplayer.so, and I haven't a clue what to do with it. .so is like a .dll file I guess. IceWeasel has a built in service that installs plugins, but this failed with flash.

When I upgraded from debian lenny to squeeze, my iceweasel browser was upgraded at the same time (3.5.15), and I'm having difficulty getting it to function as it used to.When I visit sites that link to PDF files, they download automatically, when what I want is for the PDF to be displayed by the browser. I have Applications for PDF set to Always Ask.I have PDF Download as an extension, and under its Preferences I have Open PDF as default action, using the xpdf utility on the host, opened in same tab, caught by name. I do not have a PDF plugin. Is the PDF Download extension forcing a download rather than display of the PDF in the browser?

I'm running a Debian installation from which I installed zomeminder using Synaptic Package manager. I fixed several issues with deprecated functions and other miscellaneous stuff. Finally have it working fairly well. However, not quite....zoneminder keeps hanging up as a review the captures in iceweasel. I click on the id field in the table and the event view shows up. After I review several, clicking the delete button on each to move forward Iceweasel hang up with the pinwheel spinning. If I completely close out iceweasel I can then start reviewing again. The following error message appears in the apache2/error.log.

Until recently I had no trouble reading PDF files in Iceweasel. Acrobat Reader would open without prompting. Now, after a recent re-install of Jessie, that does not happen. The browser just freezes when I point it to a PDF file. Reader is installed and shows up among Iceweasel's add-ons.

I just installed Debian on a new computer yesterday, it's more or less a fresh install. This morning I launched Iceweasel and it brought my computer to it's knees. I ran top, and found out that there was a process called "Web Content" using up 30 gigs of memory! Further experimentation shows that Iceweasel is fine until I open up a tab or two, and then it quickly begins consuming all my memory (I have 24 gigs) and swap space. I'm currently using Chrome, which is working fine, but I'd really prefer Iceweasel.

A few days ago, I noticed that flash wasn't working. I don't use flash often and have Flashblock guarding the gates so not quite sure when that happened. In the process of getting it running again I noticed a lot of Iceweasel add-ons are available in the Debian repos. In fact, deleting Flashblock from Firefox and switching to the one from the repos may be what fixed the problem (or it could have been the latest Iceweasel update which I reinstalled).
Anyway, my question is . . . just how do add-ons available via Synaptic and those from Firefox differ? And is it preferable and advisable to use the ones in Synaptic? Since I imported my old profile from Firefox to Iceweasel, I have a lot of standard add-ons rather than the Debian version.

I need to export Iceweasel from one debian to other. I can export and import favorite sites, but I need to export all configuration. Most important for me are all passwords and users names I have put in forums, websites, that Iceweasel remember for me. Is that possible? I did that in windows, but in Linux I dont know how to do it.

just reinstalled my debian distribution with Squeeze. Iceweasel still cannot play windows media player app. I have a few questions since I would like not to install WMP (which i probably did on Lenny).
1) I was wondering whether vlc could do the same. I understand that Mplayer can, but since I already have vlc, why not use it.
2) If yes, is it that I just have to add a vlc plugin at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ ?

I have Inceweasel 31.8.0 installed on LXDE Debian Wheezy and I am trying to make AdBlock Plus work. The thing is that I get pop-ups from any site, Youtube ad videos, etc. all the time, just like I have nothing installed to prevent that.
I tried:
- Installing AdBlock from Iceweasel add-ons, with a suscription to easylist ;
- installing xul-ext-adblock-plus (also with the same suscription).
With each configuration or even with none of them, I get the same results as described above. Is there anything I can do ?
By the way, I don't get Youtube ad videos on Chromium with Adblock installed through the Chrome webstore.

I have Iceweasel 38.6.0 on Jessie 8.3, and it seems to crash more or less randomly. It just suddenly disappears, and when restarted, it gives that "embarrasing"- thing. The pages reopen fine and it may take a day between crashes, or about an hour.
Where should I look for the reason of the crashing? Is there a log file or something somewhere?
My machine is old StinkBad T400. I'm using Cinnamon.

The following url streams nicely in Chromium but Iceweasel complains that FlashPlayer needs to be installed!
[URL] ...
############------- EDIT -------############
This URL is a live stream of a news channel... NOT a fixed length/size video.
############------- EDIT -------############
I can't remember facing this problem with any other YouTube videos, just this one!
Searching around a bit I found an article from 2010 : [URL] ....
First interesting bit: If you're running Chrome or Safari as your main browser, Google's now offering up YouTube videos without Flash.
That's right—fewer system hangs, browser crashes, and other issues, and just straight-up video through HTML5 standards.

After installing 3.5.6 from backports, applets stopped working. I installed the java-6-sun package but it's still not making it. Searched google but haven't found anything but some bug fixes. Also saw something about ipv6, but not sure if that's related. That seemed to affect java programs. I use jedit and that is working fine. I downloaded the latest SDK from Sun and created a link from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins and /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins to /opt/SDK/jdk/jre/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so. Prior to the update to 3.5.6, the plugins were working and I could get the ..... stuff etc.

I'm running Debian unstable on amd64 with KDE4 desktop. I know there exists KDE integration package, that enables iceweasel to use KDE file dialogs. In ubuntu its called kmozillahelper. There was similar packages in Debian (called differently as far as I remember). I happily used it in unstable, but several weeks ago it disappeared for some reason and I can not find it.info on iceweasel + KDE integration in Debian?

I am running Squeeze (Gnome desktop) and I'm experiencing some problems with Iceweasel. My problem is that sometimes Iceweasel just hangs when I launch it. I can see the cursor blinking 2-3 times in the adress bar and then it just locks up. I have tried a few different versions of iceweasel, both from stable (squeeze though), experimental and now a package from http://mozilla.debian.net/packages/ with iceweasel 4 beta.
All of them behaves the same way. They work for a while and then suddenly locks up when launched. The only way to get going again is to kill the process and delete the .mozilla directory. It is possible to launch the --safe-mode though but nothing with this mode lets me change anything to get a normal session going.' Also, it doesn't matter if I have extensions installed or not, it still behaves the same way with zero of them installed. How would I go about to debug this? If I launch iceweasel from the command line I get no output but I'm sure there is a way to get some more info to work with.
