(Beginner)Just installed openSUZE 11.1 Dual boot with Vista. I can set up my wireless settings, wep, etc and it says it connects just fine. But when I try to USE the internet it doesn't work. Nothing in update, nothing in firefox. It says it is connected but it's acting like something is blocking it.

I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04. Everything worked fine, until I rebooted. Now I can not connect to my home wireless internet, so I can't re-enable third party software sources. I am currently using a different computer, so I know that our internet works. I checked the wireless switch on my laptop, and it says that wireless is enabled. I've rebooted, and it still doesn't work. I tried our wired internet, and that didn't work either (although I'm not sure if our wired internet works; we haven't used it in a few years)

My wireless adapter connects to my WPA2 network perfectly, but when I run firefox it says it can't load the webpage, no matter what page I go to. Also, downloading new software doesn't work either. Any ideas please?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.
Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?
Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

I updated Firefox today via Yast, since this time it doesn't show any page.I choosed in Configuration no proxy.The sites are empty, nothing just white.I also tried a downgrade to the previous version, didn't help.The Firewall I deactivated for test in Yast, too.A new profile didn't help, starting as administrator either not.

It seems that there is no way for me to install java plugin in firefox 3.6. I've already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread. Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.

When I had OpenSuSE 11.3 installed originally, I never had any slow internet connection until I erased the hard drive and went to 11.4. This is what my configuration looks like on /usr/sbin/iwconfig:

The device I am using is a D-Link DWA-160 which is running the ar9170usb driver (and did on the previous version)
These are the steps I did:
Disable IPv6 from the global tab on Network Settings.
Set DHCP version 4 only in dynamic address in address tab.
Used the anti-IPv6 switches in firefox making these changes
Network.dns.disableIPv6 change from false to true
Network.http.pipelining change from false to true
Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests change from 4 to 8
Added ipv6.disable=1 in DEFAULT_APPEND in Bootloader
(I couldn't find bootloader _APPENDS that was stated in another forum)
Switched from ifup to NetworkManager for Network Setup Method. Reinstalled OpenSuSE 11.4 with Ubuntu 11.04 (to see if it was OS issue) and it still didn't work, so I switched back to OpenSuSE 11.4. Is there anything I did wrong or do I need to do anything additional?
I installed from scratch 11.2, but i see now that the Automatic update doesn't work. I run "Refresh" on Updater Applet and it come up with an error: PackageKit Error repo-not-available:
View 9 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just performed a KDE update from 4.7.0 to 4.7.1 on my OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit machine and my desktop is in bad shape: the plasma stuff doesn't seem to work at all...and I don't have any panels...the default one on the bottom of the screen is gone also. I tried creating a new user in Yast, but when I log in I get a blank black screen. KDE seems to be pooched!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup a wireless AP with my old asus eeepc, so it can act as a repeater to connect my android device on the other end of the apartment. I've already created the Wireless Access Point using hostapd. It took very little configuring, just changed from mode 'a' to 'g' and changed the channel from 60 to 1 and It was all set. Next I setup a dhcp server. Also simple enough using yast.
Up to this point, I was able to connect my android device to the newly created wireless network. However It doesn't have internet access. I guess I have to configure iptables for this, but I find it incredibly confusing! Here are a few specs to help with any examples: The laptop is connected to the internet through eth0 with IP 192.168.2.120 Hostapd is using wlan0, and I'm pretty sure it created mon.wlan0 So, to sum up, when I connect my android device to the network I can, for instance, see what ever pages apache is currently serving on the laptop, but can't access the internet.
I have OpenSUSE installed on my laptop and everything is working well, except the wireless. It almost seems that every time I run a KDE distro I can not get the internet to work. I've run YaST and used iwconfig.

I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.2 and just about the only thing that doesn't work is my wireless internet. From my research, I should be using the iwl4965 or iwlwifi driver; however my system seems to be running iwlagn. I have no idea how to switch it as neither of the correct drivers can be found in my yast, and I've failed to find any information about this on the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link drivers for Linux* website.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.
Here is the information from the working Ubuntu machine code...
Last week used lxde11.3 and no problem connecting. Today I switched to xfce11.3
and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?
I recently installed Open SUSE on my HP laptop with a (duh) Broadcom Wifi card. I finally got it to work, but it works very slowly. The max speed I get at my college WiFi is 5 mbits, and at home I can't access the Internet at all ,just the LAN. It works perfectly in Windows on the same machine. At my college the Internet works fine though.Anybody got some tips how to get the speed up and how to get the Internet at home to work?
