Software :: Compiling Firefox 4 - "--includedir=/usr/include" Doesn't Work
Mar 12, 2011
Is to compile Firefox 4 (I'm running Slackware). However, I've run into a couple of problems. I downloaded the source from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or...source.tar.bz2, and untarred it. It then turned out that compiling Firefox is more complicated than I expected, so following [url] as closely as possible, I created the following .mozconfig file (taken from the same tutorial, and adding the 'webm' option to remove the need to install YASM:
Code:
I run 'make -f client.mk' and get:
Code:
At this point, I should point out that '/usr/include/GL/glx.h' exists. So I suspect one solution would be to persuade firefox to find this, but I haven't found any options that would allow me to do this ("--includedir=/usr/include" doesn't work). I also couldn't find any mention of Mesa in the firefox dependencies, but nor could I find an option to disable WebGL (my suspected solution number 2).
I then tried to install Mesa... However, I use the nvidia driver, which it doesn't seem to support. I do seem to have some sort of Nvidia equivalent (I don't know exactly what) because if I run glxinfo I get:
Code:
So... I suspect there are two solutions:
(1) Persuade firefox that yes, a satisfactory OpenGL thingy exists on my system
(2) Disable WebGL support.

After a while of sifting through other threads, I decided none of them could solve my problem. My problem: when I click the Firefox icon on the quick launch sidebar in 11.04, it just blinks and Firefox never opens.
I tried reinstalling Firefox, removing and reinstalling the packages from the Synaptic Package Manager but that's about it. When I type "Firefox" into the command line it says something along the lines of "/home/apw5020/firefox: firefox not found". When I go into usr/bin/firefox and run the shell script directly it will run however. Is the shortcut path non existent or just incorrect? Any idea how I can fix it?
When I run it in Classic, Firefox doesn't work either. By the way, I used some workaround to run Firefox 4 before 11.04 was released involving PPAs.

It seems that there is no way for me to install java plugin in firefox 3.6. I've already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread. Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.
Opensuse 11.1
KDE 4.4.1
Firefox 3.6
Code:
# rpm --query --all '*java*'
java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u7-20.4
java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u7-20.4

When I start firefox the mouse seems captured by it.I can use the mouse inside the firefox screen (change tabs, use menu, select/paste) but not anywhere else. Even if a popup appears (site wants to register a cookie) then I can only use the keyboard to "ok" it. alt-tab to another window is not possible.Using the mouse in the gome-panel won't work.I can get the mouse pointer anywhere on the screen but mouse clicks don't seem to register. I've had this problem before on 10.04 and the only thing that worked then was to create a new useraccount (a lot of hassle).
edit: The window manager also won't react to the mouse so closing the firefox window is not possible using the windowmanager buttons(X - 0)It's also not limited to Firefox, after I closed firefox via it's menu and then started a gnome-terminal the mouse was caught in that. After closing the gnome-terminal and restarting firefox it degraded even further in that the mouse would'nt even work in the window itself anymore.Only a reboor would reset the problem.

firefox 5 is almost my favourite browser. but there is the following bug: if you configure your Tabs on top (i think its the default setting) you can't access the url-adress-form with the hotkey F6. As workaround you can use F6 and TAB key - but that isn't very comfortable.....

I'm using firefox 3.6 x86_64 with java 1.6.0_18 64 bit. I tried many times to set the (ln -s) of
[code]...
But it still doesn't work. But, when i change the java to 1.6.0_18 32 bit and then changing the reference to i386/libnpjp2.so, then it works. So the problem i have is only when using 64 bit java.

On Ubuntu 10.04, Synaptic indicates that current version {10.0.32.18-1(now) for AdobeFlash plugin} is latest but websites appear to indicate that latest version is 10.0.45-1. Synaptic Upgrade button is grayed and I am stuck! All came about by accessing following site: [URL]... Had to revert to Firefox on XP (!) to see diagram. Is there a more current (latest) version for Firefox under Ubuntu 10.04 and if so, how do I go about installing it? I tried to download and got a "Status: Error: Conflicts with installed package 'flashplugin installer'" when I clicked on the .deb file.

I routinely use Firefox's quick find feature. I press the slash key, /, type what I want to find on the page and it searches as I type. I love it. It's very convenient. But it doesn't work anywhere on this page.

I'm on the Slackware Security mailing list and I check the Slackware Security Advisory page daily because the mailing list, for me at least, is unreliable. After Firefox nagged me about a security update, I went to one of the FTP mirrors to check for an update and the Firefox update was there, but it still hasn't shown up on the official Slackware Security update page.

I have a script that uses cp to copy data from A to B. There are some troublesome files that are constantly in use and read "Permission denied" or "Text file busy" but I'm not worried about these. Therefore my copy process always contains output. The script runs through cron and the output (automatically) goes to /var/mail/user. I tried setting it up to send me an email and it comes through, but it's completely blank. The email in /var/mail/ contains the full output.
Here is my command:
0 18 * * * /home/backup.sh | mail -s "Backup completed" jsteel@...com
(The script simply contains many "cp -r /mnt/location/a /mnt/location/b")

I've noticed that the "open containing folder" right-click menu item doesn't work in Firefox 3.6. It does nothing. That action used to open Nautilus, showing the folder where the file had been downloaded. What gives? I set up Firefox long ago to call Nautilus when asked to open a folder. Shouldn't Firefox be asking me what app to use, if it weren't set up properly?

I've been trying to make Linux my only OS and have run into another snag - this time with Firefox. I realize I could try Opera or Chrome but for this thread I'm concerned with Firefox.I still dual-boot and while I've always notice that Firefox doesn't scroll as smoothly as it does in Vista, this latest issue is a concern:
I'm on the BOD for a different club forum (hobby) and need to print a list of the new registrants for various reasons. Firefox initially presents the list in portrait mode but I need it to be in landscape. Generating the initial "print preview" then changing the "print preview" from portrait to landscape takes substantially longer than in Vista on the same box...it's 30-40 seconds in Vista and nearly 2 minutes in Linux - that's a huge difference!!
As I mentioned it's a dual boot so the hardware is the same and it shouldn't involve the HPLIP service as it's a preview.I don't know if this is an openSuse issue, Kernel issue or something else.

For Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2.
I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?

i am wanting to use Firefox to connect to my smb shares. However, i keep getting this error message: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program. My client configuration is as follows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.8pre) Gecko/20100106 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Shiretoko/3.5.8preI tried the instructions below to try and fix the problem with no success: Quote: From [URL]
Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. If you use KDE, this will typically be "/usr/bin/konqueror".
