I've noticed that the "open containing folder" right-click menu item doesn't work in Firefox 3.6. It does nothing. That action used to open Nautilus, showing the folder where the file had been downloaded. What gives? I set up Firefox long ago to call Nautilus when asked to open a folder. Shouldn't Firefox be asking me what app to use, if it weren't set up properly?

i am wanting to use Firefox to connect to my smb shares. However, i keep getting this error message: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program. Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just finished transferring my home folder to a new partition. I did so by carefully following instructions on this link [URL] I had firefox open and was copying instructions one by one into an open terminal window.
When I tried to reboot ubuntu I first had a problem with ICEauthority which I think is now fixed and ubuntu then started as normal but when I tried to run Firefox I got a message saying that it was already open.
As I had Firefox open when I was copying files to the new partition I assume that some setting was copied saying that Firefox was open?
Is it possible to simply adjust this setting or do I have to undo the transfer and repeat the process with firefox closed.
I have not deleted my copy of the old home folder yet.
I've had this happen so often in the past, that I'm ready to ditch firefox altogether. I'm running F10 on a 3Ghz Intel dual core processor with a 500gb hdd. l prefer that my browser start up with a full screen when I launch it and firefox has been doing this just fine for the past 8 months. When I fired up firefox (version 3.0.13) this morning, it started up using only half the screen. As I've mentioned this has happened to me in the past and I've never been able to figure out how to get FF back to starting with a full screen. Does anyone know how to make it default back to opening in full screen mode? I've attached an image of how FF is opening now.

This doesn't work:
When uploading files, it prompts "uploading". But never finish. And files do not get uploaded. To sync a folder on desktop and ubuntu one never works.
I got ubuntu samba server on server 10.04 username:user1 , Home folder: /home/user1 This user connects from a macbook pro no problem. I followed the same steps to set up user2 username:user2 , Home folder: /home/user2 This user does not connect from windows vista. I have the correct ports open, 137-139 & 445, and can connect from the macintosh, but not vista. The error says that the username or password is in correct. If you need some log files or config files, just let me know where to go and they're all yours!
View 9 Replies View Relatedlately I'm experiencing a few issues with Firefox 5.0 on my Ubuntu 11.04 installation. First of all, when I try to open pdf files, I often get a black page and I've to try to reload it many times before I can effectively read the pdf (even for small-size ones).
Secondly Firefox doesn't record settings about my preferred applications. If, for example, I want a file .torrent to be opened by deluge I have to enter manually /usr/bin/deluge because by default it would be opened by gedit. No matter if I select "use as default application" the next time the issue will be present again.
After a while of sifting through other threads, I decided none of them could solve my problem. My problem: when I click the Firefox icon on the quick launch sidebar in 11.04, it just blinks and Firefox never opens.
I tried reinstalling Firefox, removing and reinstalling the packages from the Synaptic Package Manager but that's about it. When I type "Firefox" into the command line it says something along the lines of "/home/apw5020/firefox: firefox not found". When I go into usr/bin/firefox and run the shell script directly it will run however. Is the shortcut path non existent or just incorrect? Any idea how I can fix it?
When I run it in Classic, Firefox doesn't work either. By the way, I used some workaround to run Firefox 4 before 11.04 was released involving PPAs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I start firefox the mouse seems captured by it.I can use the mouse inside the firefox screen (change tabs, use menu, select/paste) but not anywhere else. Even if a popup appears (site wants to register a cookie) then I can only use the keyboard to "ok" it. alt-tab to another window is not possible.Using the mouse in the gome-panel won't work.I can get the mouse pointer anywhere on the screen but mouse clicks don't seem to register. I've had this problem before on 10.04 and the only thing that worked then was to create a new useraccount (a lot of hassle).
edit: The window manager also won't react to the mouse so closing the firefox window is not possible using the windowmanager buttons(X - 0)It's also not limited to Firefox,after I closed firefox via it's menu and then started a gnome-terminal the mouse was caught in that. After closing the gnome-terminal and restarting firefox it degraded even further in that the mouse would'nt even work in the window itself anymore.Only a reboor would reset the problem.
firefox 5 is almost my favourite browser. but there is the following bug: if you configure your Tabs on top (i think its the default setting) you can't access the url-adress-form with the hotkey F6. As workaround you can use F6 and TAB key - but that isn't very comfortable.....

I have tried alt+f2 and typing 'software-center', didn't help. I tried reinstalling ubuntu software center in Synoptic package manager, but I got this error message: "E: /var/cache/apt/archives/software-center_3.0.7_all.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1"
This started to happen after I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10. After I did that, I got the 'modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.8.custem/modules.deb, no such
file or directory.' error. Could these two problems be related in any way?
It seems that there is no way for me to install java plugin in firefox 3.6. I've already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread. Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.

I have a Macbook 2,1 since 2007. Last week my hard drive just died, so I decided to replace it with a new one, no problems with that. The problem came when I had to install an operative system, because my DVD drive has been broken for a year and a half now. I know we can easily install MacOSX from an external usb drive, but I don't have a big enough pendrive at the moment. So I went for Ubuntu. I have managed to get an Ubuntu 10.10 live usb stick working like charm, if anyone is interested. I just downloaded the latest i386 iso and followed this advice by pxwpxw for the 32bit EFI.
The only thing I had to change in the boot.cfg was the name of the iso and -very important- changed initrd.gz for initrd.lz. The live usb works great. But I decided to do an installation on the hard drive. I installed it using the whole hard drive and didn't get any errors. But when I boot the macbook it doesn't detect anything. I guess I need an EFI bootloader or something to make it work. I've tried to follow this guide but it seems to be intended for someone who already has MacOSX and the Ubuntu installation working. I just want to install a bootloader or whatever I need from the "outside" (from the live usb I'm using). I tried to just throw reFit into the main hard drive's root folder but it doesn't work. I think that maybe creating an HFS+ partition and installing reFit in it may work, but I don't think I can create that kind of partition from the Ubuntu usb and I also need a working MacOSX to run the enable.sh. I've also read of elilo but I've seen that it hasn't been updated for 3 years
(Beginner)Just installed openSUZE 11.1 Dual boot with Vista. I can set up my wireless settings, wep, etc and it says it connects just fine. But when I try to USE the internet it doesn't work. Nothing in update, nothing in firefox. It says it is connected but it's acting like something is blocking it.

Synaptic Upgrade button is grayed and I am stuck! All came about by accessing following site: [URL]... Had to revert to Firefox on XP (!) to see diagram. I just installed slack 13.1 and found that when I very firsttime ran Firefox and downloaded something of the net, and in that download pop up window clicked "Open containing folder", a dialog box poped up asking "this links needed to openedapplication, choose application", I don't know the exact wordings but you can look at it yourselfI thought there was some problem with the installer so using removepkg I uninstalled Firefox, downloaded it again in tar.bz2 format, extracted, and from the folder it was extracted to, I run the Firefox.sh using bash, then when I downloaded something in this Firefox, I got the same error as in screenshot, this time too, when selecting the "Open containing folder"
