There seems to be nothing in Preferences or anything, but after the other night, all new windows load in semi-full screen, where the File-Edit-etc menus are there, but the bar at the top isn't, and the taskbar at the bottom is covered by it. Its what happens with certain annoying ads, but now its any window.
View 9 RepliesThis obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had this happen so often in the past, that I'm ready to ditch firefox altogether. I'm running F10 on a 3Ghz Intel dual core processor with a 500gb hdd. l prefer that my browser start up with a full screen when I launch it and firefox has been doing this just fine for the past 8 months. When I fired up firefox (version 3.0.13) this morning, it started up using only half the screen. As I've mentioned this has happened to me in the past and I've never been able to figure out how to get FF back to starting with a full screen. Does anyone know how to make it default back to opening in full screen mode? I've attached an image of how FF is opening now.

For that I need the browser in the full screen mode but here the network manager applet does not pop up the network status as the ethernet cable is plugged in/out. I want that feature in my kiosk. This feature works fine in an ubuntu machine. update me if any particular setting is responsible for this behaviour.

I am working on a gym class display screen which was built by others. It is operated under Ubuntu. Everytime I click on Firefox, the page goes to fullscreen, but the problem is that the gym class display is not zoomed to full screen (which is what we need). there are black blank parts on both the right and the bottom of the screen.There is no shortcut key working under firefox either, which means I can't zoom the screen or even enter url for any websites.I checked the gym class website on my computer, everything looks perfect. I think there must be some setting wrong on the operating machine.

I find all the "GUI" ways to do it through Gnome and KDE but I'm not using either...I have an EEE PC set to boot up automatically to openbox and want Firefox to start after that in a full screen openbox window.I've tried adding the firefox command to ~/.initrc but it won't execute. I tried the command in .profile. This brings up firefox on a black screen without openbox.Firefox comes up fine when executed from the openbox menu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying out the new Slackware 13.37 and I have found that KDE will crash anytime I am watching a full screen video with Firefox 4 and attempt to adjust the audio levels using the keyboard buttons. If I use the mouse to adjust the audio level through the audio mixer gui, it seems to work fine. Both of my laptops ( a Gateway MP6954 and a Dell Inspiron 1520) are exhibiting this same problem. Both have the Adobe Flash Player version 10.2.159.1 installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the recommended NVIDIA driver for my Quadro FX 1400 graphics card which has 256 MB RAM. I have my laptop in a docking station and from the docking station is a DVI to HDMI converter then HDMI cable to my TV (the idea is to use it as an internet TV slave! ). When I come to configuring the NVIDIA X Server, it correctly detects both my laptop screen and my TV via the HDMI connection. However, when I come to save the settings for the X server and go to restart it, it cannot save the configuration file. This is most annoying as it does not allow me to use the dualview I need.
The second problem comes when I use something like the BBC iplayer or anything that uses the flash player. I have the latest flash player with Firefox which works fine in non-full screen mode. However, when switching to full screen, the CPU load jumps to 100% and the playback is really jerky. Had this running the beloved windows XP before and could handle full screen no problems. I have seen a few posts here which show workarounds to zoom in on the small screen on Firefox but would prefer to run it in the full screen mode.
Since Firefox is cross platform, this is equally Linux and Windows question, but presumably the Linux crowd knows better.
Whenever I go full screen with any kind of video in Firefox I get the "press ESC to exit full-screen mode" warning that plagues my screen for several seconds.
How can I get rid of this?
After Upgrading to 11.04 32bit, the PAE Kernel loads by default. This would be great except it hangs probably due to graphics not loaded properly.
Regardless I do not want to use PAE Kernel on this dev system I have and luckily it looks like the Generic Kernel of the right version is in a sub-Menu called Older Linux Versions.
I have played with Grub2 before making minor changes but this one is a little beyond me. How can I move the regular Generic Kernel from the sub-Menu and make it my default Grub2 kernel so I boot to it automatically.
I put in latest Ubuntu 11.04 CD, and clicked "Try Ubuntu". It loaded Gnome desktop environment. I thought Unity is default now, at least that's what it says on Ubuntu website. Why I got Gnome. And when I install Ubuntu, how do I switch between this two? Are applications compatible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, I upgraded 11.1 to 11.2. Everything seemed to go fine. However, for some reason the system boots with the debug kernel - 2.6.31.5-0.1-debug. According to Yast every kernel under the sun seems to be loaded on the system. Grub, however, gives two choices - one for the regular and one for the failsafe system. They both boot to the debug kernel.
How do I get this thing to load into the regular, as opposed to the debug, kernel?
I just installed a fresh version of fedora 11, and it went extremely smooth, except for one thing; I opened up firefox and it was at the fedora start page with a google search, i typed text into the search box, hit enter, and got a infamous "This page cannot be displayed" error.I have checked my connection, turned off the firewall, and rebooted the system. The problem still persists. I have no idea what is going on, it says i'm connected, I can do a software update which has to go through the internet connection, but for some reason, firefox doesn't want me to go anywhere besides fedoraproject.org.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat I have noticed on several versions of Ubuntu, both 32 and 64 bit (including 9.10, 10.04 b2 and UNR 9.10) is that after the launch of Firefox (including the current 3.6.3 version), I continue to get a spinning cursor for more than 10 seconds after the FF window is present and ready to accept input. Sometimes I get it only when moving the cursor outside the FF window and other times it will be in the window, too. I have even noticed it persist for a short time after quitting FF. I think it's definitely related to FF because I don't see this occur unless FF is launched, not even when another browser (Chromium in this case) is launched. To add to the mystery, I see it in Ubuntu and Mint 8 xfce, but not in Ubuntu-based distros with simpler window managers like Mint 8 fluxbox or CrunchBang 9.04 (openbox). To try to get rid of this, I have tried various FF configuration speedups available from the Net - changes implemented through about:config. These do speed up FF, but they don't get rid of the spinning wheel.As far as I can tell, the spinning wheel has no impact on FF operation - it doesn't stop me from entering a url and accessing it, though perhaps it slows down implementation.

I've checked the list of start-up applications and it's not there, the option to automatically remember open applications is unchecked in both startup application settings and Ubuntu tweak. View 8 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that last night, when I was watching some .swf file in firefox, the computer slowed down to the point of my not being able to do anything about it. I shut the computer down and restarted to handle the problem. This worked the first few times, and proceeded to really turn out bad later on.
Now, I have windows and ubuntu on the same hard drive. Whenever I select ubuntu, I get a message saying "GNU GRUB version 1.98-1ubuntu8" and some stuff about how limited Bash-like commands are supported. I can also his tab to do stuff. By using the help command for everything, I have determined that the command "linux" is supposed to load linux and "boot" is supposed to load an OS. Everytime time I pick a command that should load something, it says that I need to load a kernal.
When I load Ubuntu, it goes to the desktop screen, shows my desktop picture, loads Pidgin which I have set to start on startup, loads Icons, and then the screen goes black. The mouse cursor shows up, I can move it around, and then it goes black again, and the mouse cursor shows up again. This repeats a few times until the cursor freezes. This started happening after I tried fixing a bug with new drivers for my Intel 845gl video card. The instructions I followed are these:

I have tried some of the options in recovery mode from GRUB menu, none really work, except booting with default graphic configuration, or something similar like this.
After entering runlevel 2 and gdm loads, I only get a black screen. I hear a beep that indicates gdm has loaded, but everything stays black. Trying to switch to a console using ctrl-alt-f1 does absolutely nothing.
At one point, I disabled gdm from starting in runlevel 2, and rebooted. I then typed into tty2 "sleep 60 ; reboot" and in tty1 "gdm" and hoped for a reboot if the graphical login didn't appear. No reboot occurred, my black screen remained.
I've issued acpi=off at kernel command line (from grub) and disabled all acpi services. That seemed to work for a few hours but now I get the black screen again every time. There's no option in the BIOS to switch from acpi to apm, so I've done all I can do on the software side of things.

I have a bad problem with debian 5.0 . I have installed it all right with no fail or error and when it boots,i just see a black screen with nothing else. My graphic card : Nvidia 9500M gs. I tried ubuntu,fodero but both of them were same after installing debian (Before i didn't have this problem)

finally just got ubuntu to install on my emac a1002, I had to use the powerpc version. The install went fine, it restarted and loaded ubuntu, but after it loads goes to a blank black screen. And I imagine it sits there forever, yet I've only left if for about 5mins or so. The emac is from 2003, and has a 1ghz processor (Powerpc) and has 256mb ram.
