Slackware :: Start Program When Fluxbox Starts?
Apr 25, 2010I use NetworkManager to handle my net connections and it's applet that allows me to control everything from the gui is called nm-applet. I was able to edit /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.fluxbox so that nm-applet starts when fluxbox does and away I go. From runlevel 3 that is.
On my laptop I like to boot into runlevel 4 for various reasons. When I start a fluxbox session from runlevel 4 this doesn't happen. What file do I have to edit to get this to start from runlevel 4?
Slackware :: Cannot Start Xorgconfig / Make It Possible?
Mar 27, 2010I've just install Slack 13 and had been looking into the website for configure info. What is my problem is the #xorgconfig does not start on my system. It says command not found. I had searched for answer on the web and found no answer so I post here for help. Is there anything else I need to install to get my intel graphic card display more then 1024 resolution?

Realvnc was installed by "apt-get install vnc-server" command.
There in NO start-stop script in /etc/init.d/ (is it ok? ), so I can't use update-rc.d. When placing
vncserver
or
/bin/bash -c "cd /root/ && vncserver :1" 2> /tmp/vncstart &
in rc.local it starts nothing but "vncpasswd //.vnc/passwd" (and YES, there is password in /root/.vnc/passwd)
Please, help!

Jun 15, 2011I've installed MongoDB and I want init to start the database with the --journal flag. I'm quite rusty on how init works, but I know it involves the /etc/init and /etc/rc directories.I've found /lib/init/upstart-job and someone in the chat is suggesting that I just edit that bash script, but I can see it's involved with more than half the system service, so I'm a little hesitant to edit it. In fact, I'm pretty sure if I followed that advice I'd really screw up my system and then the person "helping" me would just stop responding.

And I guess it dosen't start when the computer starts so I have to manually start it with "sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start" This returns fail so i went to '/var/run/mysqld/' and the folder was empty. I don't know if this is the problem or not. How can I fix this?

Sep 2, 2010I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !

Feb 2, 2010I can make a connection to the vpn server, the connection starts, but nothing happens! My IP address remains the same as previous! There is nothing added to my Knetworkmanager, I'm a beginner I should use a pcf file for my vpn connection. I use it properly, I'm sure because the connection starts and an icon is added to my panel and remains until I disconnect.

Feb 26, 2010You might be asking why would I want to this? I will tell you why. My wife. She has grown up using Windows. The jump from Windows XP to 7 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for her. I just had to show her where things changed to for about 10-20 minutes and that was that.
I did a trial run with Ubuntu for about a month using Gnome and not her cup of tea. So now I did a search on the Internet and came up with a Gnome solution here is the link:

But both websites are oriented towards Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I am just wondering if this will work with Slackware???
My wife likes a speedy system almost as much as I do. She also like the Search field when you click on the Start menu in Windows 7, the taskbar at the bottom, the big red X in right hand corner of the windows.
I just hope I can go this route and change it to look like Windows 7. I will be very happy and so will my wife of course.

Sep 10, 2010I have done several attempts to build a local mirror of Salckware 13.0. There are two problems: I have to wait very long for a connection, they appear error during a connection which broke it so I have to restart. Is there any other way to build mirror? I am using Alien Bob scripts. Never before happened something like that. The connections with common web pages (google, etc) work well. Maybe I should look for some other mirror than those listed in mirror-slackware-current.sh.
