Slackware :: Installing ATI Drivers Broke ALSA Configuration / Fix This?
Jan 22, 2011I install the ATI drivers yesterday and today I've realised that it broke my sound. I have a HDA nVidia sound card built in (with a Realtek chip), but when I run alsaconf, it doesn't find it. It tries to use either the ATI HDMI audio port or a legacy generic driver. Any hints as to how I can fix this?

General :: Installing Slackware On IDE Hard Rive Boot From Slackware DVD?
Jan 23, 2010I try to install Slackware to my IDE hard drive and boot first from Slackware DVD. After I loaded huge.s kernel, and tried to partition the hard drive using fdisk by entering "fdisk /dev/hda", I found out that the partition size is max to 3 Gigs instead of 80 Gigs.
I think the kernel is looking at my boot disk, which is around 3 Gigs. How can I make so that it looks at my IDE drive instead at my boot drive? Is there any manual that shows me how to install Linux from scratch this means I want to wipe out all my hard disk and install Slackware Linux there?

Mar 26, 2010I'm now up and running on slackware 13 x64. I have noticed that the version of Python installed was 2.6.2 but there were a lot of bug fixes between this and 2.6.5. What is the best way to get 2.6.5 running on my machine. Do I have to install from source or is anybody aware of any packages that have been released?
Again, I'm not too familiar with package management systems on Slackware as I have always installed from source but this became a bit of a bind recently as updating software to newer versions involved a lot of hard work. Can anybody give me an ideas on the packaging systems available, the best ones to use, and where I can find information about the packages related to the package managers?
Slackware :: ALSA - Sound Will Cut In And Out
Oct 11, 2010basically, sound will cut in and out. if i'm on videos, whenever sound cuts out, the video will continue for exactly two seconds and stop. sometimes i can reload the videos video, and it'll either play for two seconds without sound, or go normal, but usually for only a little time, not even a minute. similar problems for amarok, spotify and other applications using the sound card. this is the output when trying to restart the alsa demon

Mar 18, 2011[URL] I am trying to update alsa from version 1.0.21 to 1.0.24 and am having some issues. While trying to build the alsa until I get an error. I've been googling around and so far have found nothing. I was getting more errors earlier but that was solved by installing xmlto.

Slackware :: Alsa - No Sound From Headphones
Oct 19, 2010when i plug in my headphones i was getting sound output both from the laptop speakers and the headphones, then i tried changing the sound.conf file and still no success and then i tried reinstalling the alsa - i downloaded the latest alsa-driver and alsa-lib and installed them, but when i rebooted there was no more sound from the headphones when i plug them in. I don't know what to do, i tried reinstalling alsa multiple times but still no success. Is there any way to bring back my previous configuration when i installed slackware ? Or some way to roll back using the installation dvd ?

Jan 23, 2010I'm trying to install the latest version of Flash in Slackware 13 on a 32 bit machine. Adobe seems to have rpm and deb installers, but there's no TXZ. Normally, tar.gz wouldn't be a problem, but the package they have there only contains a shared library. No installation script, no readme, no nothing. Further, the SlackBuild is for an outdated version, and the installation doesn't work.

Jan 27, 2010I'm back to slack after several years. I'd like to install wine. I have downloaded wine-1.1.33.tar.bz2[URL]..I am currently looking at the installation instructions. I would welcome any advice, comments or caveats that might contribute to the installation. In particular, have I made the
correct download? Another example: My preference is that the installation be made to /usr/local, since that directory is on its own partition. Will that introduce any problems?

It seems like this error is related to some handbook or translation documentation? Is there some dependency I'm missing? (There shouldn't be according to SB). Or is there a way I can block compiling this documentation in the build script? I tried commenting out "set -e" in the build script, but the resulting packing wouldn't run after I installed it.

Jun 23, 2010Slackware 13.1_64, everything works like a charm,BUTevery time my slackware boots up,the sound system changes from one device to another.So if I boot now, sound address is hw:1.0.
then if I reboot, the sound address becomes hw:0.0It's really annoying, because every time I have to re-run xmms and mplayer setup to get any sound!Also, if any program is playing audio (like xmms), other programs cannot play audio at the same time.ie: if I'm listening music with xmms then I try opening some video with mplayer or firefox/flash, I get no audio on this video....What's the deal with kde phonon? I thought it was supposed to be the new global sound system for kde4, like arts was for kde3

Oct 22, 2010After updating my system today, sound stopped working. VLC said I should update alsa-lib. Slackbuilds had none to offer, so I got the sources from http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page. It compiled and installed without problems, but the error from VLC states the same. Is my system the only one affected by the update, and how do I fix it?

Only the onboard devices are detected. Alsaconf does not see the card and the Kmix application does not see it either. Only lspci & cat /proc/asound/cards see it but seems not able to use it...I am using the stock slack64 13.1 kernel 2.6.33.4 and I've recompiled alsa from sources to version 1.0.23.
