Slackware :: Installing Flash In Slackware 13?
Jan 23, 2010
I'm trying to install the latest version of Flash in Slackware 13 on a 32 bit machine. Adobe seems to have rpm and deb installers, but there's no TXZ. Normally, tar.gz wouldn't be a problem, but the package they have there only contains a shared library. No installation script, no readme, no nothing. Further, the SlackBuild is for an outdated version, and the installation doesn't work.

I've downloaded the static .tar.bz2 file for Skype .
[code]...
Same with Flash, my default browser is Konqueror. explain everything for dummies. I've also created a non-root user (kasu) and when I try logging in, I get the error message; There's no home directory and it can't be created.

i downloaded slackware iso (4.3 gigs, i thought it would be smaller) and then when i tried to burn to dvd it give me read sector error when i tried to verify. i tried this with 5 dvd and none worked so something is probably wrong with the iso itself. is there another way to get slackware to install with a usb flash drive or should i just redownload my iso (10 hour download =( ).

I try to install Slackware to my IDE hard drive and boot first from Slackware DVD. After I loaded huge.s kernel, and tried to partition the hard drive using fdisk by entering "fdisk /dev/hda", I found out that the partition size is max to 3 Gigs instead of 80 Gigs.
I think the kernel is looking at my boot disk, which is around 3 Gigs. How can I make so that it looks at my IDE drive instead at my boot drive? Is there any manual that shows me how to install Linux from scratch this means I want to wipe out all my hard disk and install Slackware Linux there?

I started a thread asking for advice in the hardware forum. I didn't want to post a duplicate thread, but I was unable to get it moved here, so I'm kindly asking you slackers to help me install the aforementioned driver.

I have been given the task to install slackware 13.1 over windows. I have downloaded and copied slackware 13.1 on to a disk, and rebooted the computer, but i am not getting what all the tutorials have shown. I have been looking for tutorials that specifically instruct me as to how to install slackware 13.1 on to a windows xp. I am not trying to dual run I just simply want to run slackware and slackware only.

I'm now up and running on slackware 13 x64. I have noticed that the version of Python installed was 2.6.2 but there were a lot of bug fixes between this and 2.6.5. What is the best way to get 2.6.5 running on my machine. Do I have to install from source or is anybody aware of any packages that have been released?
Again, I'm not too familiar with package management systems on Slackware as I have always installed from source but this became a bit of a bind recently as updating software to newer versions involved a lot of hard work. Can anybody give me an ideas on the packaging systems available, the best ones to use, and where I can find information about the packages related to the package managers?

I assume i can just drop all of my config files into the new install as well.

It seems there's no support for the KVM virtio modules in the Slackware install kernel.
May I suggest that these be added to the next version of Slackware?
Or am I perhaps missing something?

I'm back to slack after several years. I'd like to install wine. I have downloaded wine-1.1.33.tar.bz2[URL]..I am currently looking at the installation instructions. I would welcome any advice, comments or caveats that might contribute to the installation. In particular, have I made the
correct download? Another example: My preference is that the installation be made to /usr/local, since that directory is on its own partition. Will that introduce any problems?

I'm using Slackware 13.1 and am trying to install KmyMoney from SlackBuilds. For some reason, I get the following compiling error:
Code:
Scanning dependencies of target kmymoney-handbook
make[2]: Leaving directory `/tmp/SBo/kmymoney-4.5.2/build'
make -f doc-translations/it_kmymoney/kmymoney/CMakeFiles/kmymoney-handbook.dir/build.make doc-translations/it_kmymoney/kmymoney/CMakeFiles/kmymoney-handbook.dir/build
make[2]: Entering directory `/tmp/SBo/kmymoney-4.5.2/build'
/usr/bin/cmake -E cmake_progress_report /tmp/SBo/kmymoney-4.5.2/build/CMakeFiles
[100%] Generating index.cache.bz2
[Code]...
It seems like this error is related to some handbook or translation documentation? Is there some dependency I'm missing? (There shouldn't be according to SB). Or is there a way I can block compiling this documentation in the build script? I tried commenting out "set -e" in the build script, but the resulting packing wouldn't run after I installed it.

You may know that there was a security release for Adobe Flash Plugin for Linux x86 but not for x86_64. There has been a development:
See : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
It works fine here. I have a Multilib Slack 13.1 stable.

What is the correct way to install Adobe Flash on Slackware 64-bit?
I have tried copying "libflashplayer.so" into the following directory.
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins
Firefox still does not see the plug-in.
I verified that I did download the 64-bit version of the plug-in from the Adobe site.
flashplayer10_2_p3_64bit_linux_111710.tar.gz
I installed multilib. Could that cause a problem finding the flash plug-in?

I just installed slackware64 13.0 and I cant get flash working in konqueror.
First I tried downloading the .tar.gz from the adobe website and moving libflashplayer.so into ~/.mozilla/plugins (I had to make the directory first since firefox isnt installed). That didn't work, I even rebooted but still nothing I also went into konqueror's settings>configure konqueror>plugins and choose scan for plugins, but nothing happens. It doesn't even seem to respond when i click the button.
Next I removed the .mozilla directory that I made earlier and tried installing multimedia/flash-player-pl from slackbuilds with sbopkg, but same issues as before. Tried rebooting, tried scanning for plugins, nothing.

Would I need to download the source for that and the slackbuild if its got one. I am having difficulty trying to download anything it says to select a mirror and go from there but how do you uncomment a mirror? I cant even update my computer. I am using slackware 13.1 64 bit.

I can now read, write and format a floppy disk. Score! [It only takes three separate command line instruction to unmount the drive, format, remount specifying the filing system but what the heck I can do it Now I need USB flash drive to be accessible in Slackware. Otherwise I cant get apps and multi-media data across (without great grief anyway) to test the functionality of KDE.
Gads this is hard work! There is no difference in the operation of Linux than UNIX at university in 1989! Now I see why Im seeing all these adverts for work out east saying Experience in Linux installation essential. Linux requires a wad more work than Windows, MacOS, DOS or even CP/M! You really *can* make a living out of this!

I have a fairly fresh install of Slackware and I just installed the flash plugin for Firefox. After installing the flash plugin, I'm able to view videos, but I'm unable to hear any sound.
- Pidgin also does not play sound
- Amarok plays sound fine
- Other KDE system event sounds play fine (i.e. starting and leaving X)
- I used alsaconf to configure my sound as it wasn't working right after the Slackware install

With Firefox 3.6 from the official repository, and the flash-player-plugin from Slacky.eu installed here. It's worked fine up until now, where websites either claim it's not installed, or show a blank box instead.NoScript is installed on my Firefox, but given that on fully trusted pages (of which there are very few) it still happens, and nothing else blocks Flash besides AdBlock and Firefox's own settings (both checked too) I suspect the plugin.I also tried downloading direct from Adobe, and plonking the libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib / mozilla/plugins and making a backup of the original one (The one provided from Slacky's package) but to no avail. So it seems to be the plugin, but for inexplicable reasons.Would anyone happen to be able to explicate this inexplicability?

Using Pentium4, snd_hda_intel, Codec Realtek ALC880, slackware64 13.1, No Gnome, firefox3.6.8 with flashplayer. Is is possible to replace Flashplayer with mplayerplug-in? Followed this a ubuntu tutorial:[URL]..community/SoundTroubleshooting to identify Sound Device using:
Code:
$wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh Tested sound by running gxine wizard which set it up as a plugin. Also ran mplayer but there was no wizard for firefox plugin both play sound. Used slackpkg to download mplayerplugin and pkgtool to install it. Where is mplayerplugin suposed to be installed? ***Found Mplayerplug-in... Pkgtool installed it right into Tools -> Addons-> Plugins intoo firefox... So i am going to disable Flashplayer and see what happens Thought I had to mannually configure it?
