Slackware :: Getting The Vmplayer To Working On 13?
Feb 11, 2010
I installed vmplayer, run the bundle script, couldn't see what got installed where, just as in Windows so it seemed. There is no uninstall script I started vmplayer and got a list of messages.
(vmware-modconfig:4131): Gtk-WARNING **: GModule (/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libxfce.so) initialization check failed: Gtk+ version too old (micro mismatch)
(ten times)

Some modules are missing in the generic kernel. As well as a 'VMware module kernel updater' screen saying that the Kernel headers for version 2.6.29.5-smp were not found. They are clearly present..
I have installed VMplayer 3.0.0 on a Fedora 12 64 bit system. It seems to have installed ok with no error messages. However when I start the VMplayer it flashes up on the screen and goes again and will not run. has any one had a similar experience and if so what was the fix? I installed the package because i understand it will run Windows 98SE ok. O need it to run two pieces of Windows software. All I need is networking and access to a floppy drive once so I do not need sound and all the other bells and whistles.
Today I installed OpenSUSE11.4 an tried to install VMware Player but after starting player is wanted to compile and I got the messages below:
Mar 10 22:47:18.350: app-139681465902848| Log for VMware Workstation pid=12510 version=7.1.3 build=build-324285 option=Release Mar 10 22:47:18.350: app-139681465902848| The process is 64-bit. I'm running Fedora 10 as host to vmplayer guests (win98se, Ubuntu 9.04). Each can connect to the Samba server and give me access to my home directory and 'backup' partition. Samba and nfs are both running. So far so good.
I've just installed Fedora 11 as a vmplayer guest. When I click Places > Network Nautilus opens up showing only Windows Network. Double-click on this item and I get a pop-up message: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server." SELinux is disabled for the moment. I tried to mount the 'backup' partition: mount -t ext3 catinthehat2:/archive /mnt/archive but get the message: mount: special device catinthehat2:/archive does not exist.
Recently i installed VMPlayer-3.1.3 Linux version in RHEL-5.4 installation is done, but vmware-config.pl file is missing so that i cannot customise the network settings.
My host machine(RHEL-5.4),consists 2 nic card and each having 192.168.x.x,172.20.x.x ip address. In My guest machine i configured 2 virtual nic.I want to customise these nic.
Also i want to bridge the host machines eth0 to vmnet0 and eth1 to vmnet2.so that i can customise the virtual nic's.
I did these settings in windows and it is working, but this is the first time i am installing vmplayer in linux.
I recently wanned to use my vmplayer installation and I got the following error : /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmwareui.so.0/libvmwareui.so.0: undefined symbol: vmodl_vmomi_key_any_value_get_type
I've tried to run a Clonezilla VM using vmplayer. All works fine except when I get to the cloning section. I have three partitions on the HD; partition A, B and C.
A = Partition to clone B = Partiton onto which the clone image of PartA is to be saved C = OS partition which is running the Clonezilla VM.
I would like to save the partition as an image but when it actually comes to the nitty gritty of partition cloning Clonezilla does not recognise PartA or PartB. I get error massages along the lines of "No unmounted partitions found." When I drop into a shell prompt the fdisk -l output shows nothing. However, running from the liveCD it recognises both these along with PartC. Is there a way of carrying out the cloning using this method by tweaking vmplayer settings or is the project just not possible ?
I'm trying to bring my Slackware system back to life as my XP HDD is dying... I've got everything working except for my audio. I got a new motherboard (ASRock P43DE3) and it has a VIA VT1708S as the onboard audio. Is there any way I can get this working without rebuilding the kernel?
I recently bought the Alfa AWUS036h which uses the Realtek rtl8187 chipset. I am able to load the module and connect to any network, but its almost as soon as I try to load a page the connection drops. It never stays connected for more than 30 seconds. My other computers using the same adapter in the same spot work fine, unfortunately there not running slackware. I've tried compiling the newest stable kernel and checked the rd.inet1.conf settings.
Has anyone managed to get the moonlight extension which enables one to watch Sky TV working in slackware? I have the extensions for firefox and chrome but all I get is a blank screen.
I have Slackware 13.1 with kernel 2.6.37. Everything is working fine, except that I can't mount any CD/DVD and automount is not working either. If I connect any USb to my laptop it doesn't automount, I need to manually mount it. The same case happens with CD/DVD only that I can't mount any CD/DVD even manually. Here's the output:
Code: bash-4.1# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
I have an old laptop. The laptop's 2 keys(g-h) are not working.I think the keys assign to different keys that the keys are windows keys near CTRLs because linux dont use these keys. Can I assign not working keys to the windows keys?
I know there are SlackBuild scripts for installing LibreOffice, but I wanted to compile my own packages. So I downloaded the RPMS and then converted them using rpm2tgz and used pkgtool to install all the packages.
Until then everything was fine. No warnings, no errors. But when I tried to run the various applications e.g. Impress, Writer etc. It didn't work. When I try to open any application, nothing happens. Just the icon bounces beside the KDE cursor for sometime.
I just setup a dual boot on my laptop with Windows 7 and Slackware 13.1
I've been using Slax for one of my web programming classes and I got tired of booting from a live CD all the time so I decided to just use Slackware. When I try and connect to the localhost page, I get a cannot connect error page. Why?
I'm looking forward to see the new 13.1 Slackware release although I always stay -current. Just a quick one I've found: When the RC1 was announced the mc-20100509_git-i486-1 broke the standard use of
I was reluctant to start yet another sound thread, but after days of searching sites and reading mini HOWTO's I'm still mute. I have tried configuring ALSA via:
# alsaconf # /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa start # alsamixer - all relevant sliders unmuted... # alsactl store
...and still nothing. KDE reports that 'Audio playback device ALC889 does not work.' My kmix app doesn't even start. At boot I get this message 3 times:
"ALL CONFIG FILES NEED /etc/modprobe.d/sound - it will be ignored in a future release"
Even starting xmms brings up 'Check that - your soundcard is configured properly/the correct plugin is selected/no other program is blocking the soundcard'. btw, Windows reports I have an ALC888, not a 889. KDE lists it as present as both digital and analog, and the legacy system (whatever it is) as well as esound, but none work. I certainly had no difficulty with S11.
I am a newbie in Slackware. This is my first try to make working system on slackware. I made internet connection by help netconfig. Internet is working but not always. To example I try download page but it doesn't. I push Update page .. and one more time Update page and after 3-4 times my page is downloaded. When I work with windows on this computer, I don't have any problem.
How to get a older crt touchscreen working. I need it to work for a handicapped child. When I check the device it seems slackware detects it as a mac emulation mouse and I installed egalaxy drivers. It seems something is right, when I touch the screen the cursor goes to the right top corner and moves a bit when touching the screen.
I am trying to get freecad working on my 13.37 64 bit There must be a problem with xerces-c slackbuild This is what I get running the slackbuild checking for C compiler default output file name. configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. the last line in the config.log is
configure: caught signal 2 configure: exit 1 I am dumb founded tried with src2pkg but that gives another error Skipping compile_source - FAILED!! No INSTALL_LINE given.
