I have installed VMplayer 3.0.0 on a Fedora 12 64 bit system. It seems to have installed ok with no error messages. However when I start the VMplayer it flashes up on the screen and goes again and will not run. has any one had a similar experience and if so what was the fix? I installed the package because i understand it will run Windows 98SE ok. O need it to run two pieces of Windows software. All I need is networking and access to a floppy drive once so I do not need sound and all the other bells and whistles.
I've tried to run a Clonezilla VM using vmplayer. All works fine except when I get to the cloning section. I have three partitions on the HD; partition A, B and C.
A = Partition to clone B = Partiton onto which the clone image of PartA is to be saved C = OS partition which is running the Clonezilla VM.
I would like to save the partition as an image but when it actually comes to the nitty gritty of partition cloning Clonezilla does not recognise PartA or PartB. I get error massages along the lines of "No unmounted partitions found." When I drop into a shell prompt the fdisk -l output shows nothing. However, running from the liveCD it recognises both these along with PartC. Is there a way of carrying out the cloning using this method by tweaking vmplayer settings or is the project just not possible ?
I'm trying to debug a module I programmed but I don't want to do it on the running host but against UML (don't want to reboot every 5 minutes).
The UML kernel I downloaded is 2.6.38.2. I have already downloaded the ubuntu kernel headers for this version (they belong to natty though I'm running maverick.... when I installed the .deb file with dpkg I had no problem at all).
Now I'd like to build said module against these headers. How can I do it?
I am interested in using fortran and an external library called matio used to save arrays to matlab .mat files. I have installed the matio and matio-dev packages from synaptics but i cannot compile a code receiving an error Code: christos@christos-laptop:~/Desktop$ gfortran -o test test.f90 -lmatio -lz test.f90:2.13: USE MATIO 1
Fatal Error: Can't open module file 'matio.mod' for reading at (1): No such file or directory How can i load a module in order to use it in fortran through the GCC compiler?
I tried to stop kvm and kvm-amd modules to run at boot by adding; Code: blacklist kvm blacklist kvm-amd at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and reboot PC. However it doesn't work.
i'm using RHEL 5.0 with ext2 or ext3 filesystem, now i wish to use ext4 without loose this Opreating System.... or without using another distro of linux...
do you have any code to flash led lights with paralel port (device driver programming)or any lecture about this subject .if there is a working code this would be better ofcourse.
I have installed squid and Dansguardian on Ubuntu Server 10.04. I have also installed webmin. I see that there is a Dansguardian module for Webmin, and I have downloaded it to the server, but I am not sure how to install it. The file was downloaded from [URL]I don't know what to do with the .wbm file.
I'm needing to have the acer-wmi module running at startup for my wireless card. In ubuntu this is located at /etc/modules and I was wondering where the same file is within Fedora
I want to activate cpu frequency scaling on my home computer. I have an athlon 64 3200+. I know that it supports frequency scaling, because when I got the processor I also got a CD with the Cool n'Quiet driver. I've tried with the powernowd service, but when I try to start it I get Code: * Starting powernowd... * CPU frequency scaling not supported...
and if I try to start cpufreqd I get Code: No cpufreq interface found, not starting cpufreqd In the meanwhile I've noticed that I also don't have powernow-k7 kernel module installed. If I try a modprobe powernow-k7 I get: Code: FATAL: Module powernow_k7 not found I have no ideea where I can get this kernel module.
I have installed CENTOS 5.3 on my machine and am running the new version of Subversion which comes bundled with Apache. I noticed in the httpd.conf file there is no module for PHP which is a problem. How do I install the PHP module for APACHE in Centos 5.3?
I installed vmplayer, run the bundle script, couldn't see what got installed where, just as in Windows so it seemed. There is no uninstall script I started vmplayer and got a list of messages.

Some modules are missing in the generic kernel. As well as a 'VMware module kernel updater' screen saying that the Kernel headers for version 2.6.29.5-smp were not found. They are clearly present..
I want to connect to MySQL Database installed on RHEL 5 using perl v 5.8.8.The available DBD perl drivers installed on my machine are:DBM, ExampleP, File, Pg, Proxy, Sponge..I downloaded DBD-mysql-2.1012 and tried installing DBD again but got the following error:Can't exec "mysql_config": No such file or directory at Makefile.PL line 167.readline() on closed filehandle PIPE at Makefile.PL line 169.On searching I found that I need to install libz-devel prior to installing driver for MySQL for Perl.
I recently wanned to use my vmplayer installation and I got the following error : /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmwareui.so.0/libvmwareui.so.0: undefined symbol: vmodl_vmomi_key_any_value_get_type
Today I installed OpenSUSE11.4 an tried to install VMware Player but after starting player is wanted to compile and I got the messages below:

I'm attempting to set up a GIMP scripts for batch operations on groups of image files. Initially I started reading about the Script-Fu syntax but it looked too convoluted (at least for me, with 15 years of Perl experience at work) in a way it does the simpliest of things so I attempted to use Perl instead of Script-Fu. From reading the docs I see that I need to install "Gimp::Fu" Perl module. I installed "cpan" first, started it and issued the command:
install "Gimp::Fu"
and got a dependency problem:
Code:
cpan[1]> install "Gimp::Fu" CPAN: Storable loaded ok (v2.18) Going to read /root/.cpan/Metadata Database was generated on Thu, 28 Oct 2010 17:30:45 GMT
Is suid disabled from running all home made bash scripts or just from running them as root or:
Who would know for sure.
I googled several combinations of Mandriva Linux how-to suid disabled setUID etc... so far all I found was "many distributions are disabling suid for security reasons" nothing specific.
I'm running Fedora 10 as host to vmplayer guests (win98se, Ubuntu 9.04). Each can connect to the Samba server and give me access to my home directory and 'backup' partition. Samba and nfs are both running. So far so good.
I've just installed Fedora 11 as a vmplayer guest. When I click Places > Network Nautilus opens up showing only Windows Network. Double-click on this item and I get a pop-up message: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server." SELinux is disabled for the moment. I tried to mount the 'backup' partition: mount -t ext3 catinthehat2:/archive /mnt/archive but get the message: mount: special device catinthehat2:/archive does not exist.
Recently i installed VMPlayer-3.1.3 Linux version in RHEL-5.4 installation is done, but vmware-config.pl file is missing so that i cannot customise the network settings.
My host machine(RHEL-5.4),consists 2 nic card and each having 192.168.x.x,172.20.x.x ip address. In My guest machine i configured 2 virtual nic.I want to customise these nic.
Also i want to bridge the host machines eth0 to vmnet0 and eth1 to vmnet2.so that i can customise the virtual nic's.
I did these settings in windows and it is working, but this is the first time i am installing vmplayer in linux.
I m trying to get the b43-fwcutter working with a b4312:14e4315 chipset, it works on 10.04 intill i have to re-boot (?) then it just has no wireless at all, ive tried upgrading the kernel to 2.6.32 using ubuntu 9.10 but i get the error status 10 build failed. I am pretty new to linux (and to great with computers full stop), ive tried following tutorials i have found but each time i end up with no wireless or a installed driver that doesn't detect any app...
I have managed to get the STA driver working in the new kernel, but when i install b43-fwcutter and remove the bcmw-kerenel-source and re-boot i have no driver at all (?), i am really out my depth here but would like to get it working without it crashing like i get with 10.04
I'm trying to get Virtualbox up an running. So I have added virtualbox in my repo and added the key, looks fine so far. but afeter downloading I get this:
VirtualBox-3.0.8_53138_rhel5-1.x86_64 Creating group 'vboxusers'. VM users must be member of that group! No precompiled module for this kernel found -- trying to build one. Messages emitted during module compilation will be logged to /var/log/vbox-install.log.
Compilation of the kernel module FAILED! VirtualBox will not start until this problem is fixed. Please consult /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out why the kernel module does not compile. Most probably the kernel sources are not found. Install them and execute /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup as root.
My root Vixie cron crontab is set to perform a system snapshot via fsarchiver: 0 0 * * * fsarchiver savefs -o -A /backups/p30_root.fsa /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 The command itself works fine, generating about a 7G snapshot of my Suse server. I then wish to rsync this to a NAS I have located in another building: 0 3 * * * rsync -av -e ssh --delete /backups/ root{at address}:/DataVolume/os_backups/
(yes, I'm rsyncing as root. I absolutely loathe it, but I got thrown into an quasi-SA position with a ridiculous to-do list and no time to do it. I'm having to make things just work and then go back and try to improve them/learn how. I couldn't make it work in a non-root way quick enough, so for now I'm having to cron rsync jobs as root because of all the differing file permissions on this samba/MySql server. I set the NAS to only accepts ssh from the server IP, and we're behind a campus firewall... It's serious trial by fire.) The crontab also has rsync commands for the samba areas, our specialized chemistry software and affiliated MySQL databases............
I have just started learning Device driver programming in Linux and am stuck in my first program. Its just to see init_module and cleanup_module calls to use printk and see results using dmesg. program is:
Code:
#define MODULE #include<linux/module.h> int init_module(void)
