I was wondering if anyone knew of a lightweight and easy-to-configure MTA, or any other way of sending messages from a command-line environment without too much of a fuss. I would only be sending messages through a single Gmail account, and would rather not bother with all of the sendmail configuration.

Just something that pops up above any browser/window and remains that way until you click it or something. The pop up would occur periodically or at sometime each day. It would say something like "TAKE A BREAK FROM COMPUTER" lol and other things. not suppose to be some full reminder program like a calendar.

with the keyboard inputs for $fc1 and $fc2 being *.doc and ~/test respectivly. The only problem i can see is the xargs -ivar "var" part possibly needing $var to be defined?
It seems my sendmail (running in slackware 13.0) cannot send out emails correctly. I guess I need to tell it what is the smtp server to use. And, I heard, gmail's smtp server is available to use for this purpose. How to configure my sendmail this way?

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast week google introduced the capability of using gmail to call other people in Canada or the US on landlines or mobile devices. This capability is free for 2010.
I gave this a try in Slackware 13.1 and it works. To do this I was browsing with Fire Fox 3.6.8 and logged into my gmail account. On the left hand side of your e-mail account window you will see a phone icon.
1. When you click on that icon you will be prompted to install the gmail phone application.
2. A download window will open asking you to download a .deb source. I downloaded it and then I used src2pkg to create a Slackware package, then installed it.
3. Re-launch Fire Fox.
4. Click on the phone application and call up people. The voice quality is quite good, I experienced little lag.
Is it possible to send an email to abc123@gmail.com directly from Console? If it is possible, do I need to do some 'configuration stuff' to get it to work? How do I start it?

View 14 Replies View Relateduse any browser and go to gmail. i can't get gmail to load. if i browse on videos, links to videos don't work. they appear to be taking a long time to buffer, then a message appears saying to try again. sometimes, links on google search pages are all dead. yahoo mail loads as far as logging me in, then i get a page with all dead links.
i'm using a laptop at several locations that have free public wifi. at some places, everything works perfectly normally. at other places, google and yahoo are almost useless. the "bad" places work just fine under ms windows.
so i figure it's a networking/handshaking issue, but that's all i can figure. i need help to troubleshoot it further. if it's happening to me, it has to be happening to other people, and i consider it a major hassle.
My college internet providers shifted to a different setting.. defined in the changing lan proxy settings on the user end. I.e.ip - 192.168.0.200 and port to 3000. This to reduce misuse of the net connection ..The thing is, since then, every other website is working, except GMail. It isnt blocked, the Nebero page shows up for blocked sites. When attempting to open gmail, the default internet page shows up for unavailability of page owing to no or slow response from the server, or the firewall or proxy settings not appropriately configured. I cannot open gmail, the connection on empathy im. I cant ping gmail either. No response. What can be the problem.

In my user manager, I don't know wich group I have to add to this simple user (it's me) so I am allowed to manage the usb key.

So is there any instruction for me to upgrade from slackware 12.1 (currently running)to slackware 13.1 directly, like what states in "Slackware 13.0 to 13.1 Upgrade HOWTO" ? View 13 Replies View RelatedI am a complete noob in the Linux community, having JUST installed my first Linux distro on my PC (that being Slackware 13.37).That having been said, please be patient with my TOTAL confusion is this regard : How do I determine which version of a package I need to download (in this example, I will use Yakuake, a program I AM trying to find at the moment!). I have done searches on the internet of the type"Yakuake for Slackware", etc., and I have always found results that I believed were a link to the correct version. However, when I finally have the package downloaded (I have downloaded BOTH source packages as
well as the build app.), they are always for a DIFFERENT VERSION!
This is most frustrating...; is there a "listing" of different packages that are compatible with a specific distro / version? I realize that, in many cases, I may require a newer version of a library, etc., but again, how do I determine this ahead of time, before I bother downloading the actual app. I wish to install? I can use another example - I attempted to install OpenOffice; I began by searching for OpenOffice for Slackware / KDE (as some sources indicated that Gnome was the required gui for this package...).I found a site with an install cd .iso that was supposed to be multi-platform KDE compatible, but NONE of the versions would install on Slackware 13.37... - you get my point?
I avoid capslock like the plague and use "ctrl:nocaps" when in X, and would like to have the same behaviour in the console. Back when I was using Debian I got it set up the way I want, but now I can't seem to locate the default keymap. I tried editing

and it works when I use loadkeys manually, but not on boot.
After several attempts in setting up the rc.inet1.conf using alienbob's site as a guide, I'd like to see a sample of a working setup. My setup is very simple: home router and a desktop wireless, with wpa security. Using wicd is snap, but I'm tired of dropping connections; everthing worked with slack 13.0, but this 13.1 dropping wireless connection is driving me nuts, both on the desktop and the laptop.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have two partitions on my laptop. One which I only use for shopping and logging into bank website which has xubuntu 8.04/firefox 3.0.x and another partition which has ubuntu 9.10/firefox 3.5.6 which I use for programming and mucking about with networking.
I decided for extra security and because I would create a google mail account for my ubuntu 9.10. I created the google mail account in the xubuntu 8.04 partition with no problems logging into the google webiste.
I then booted into the ubuntu 9.10 partition and set up evolution to receive emails from my google mail account. I have sent and receive emails. When I tried to log into the google mail account to amend settings, after a while it comes up with a connection error.
* I don't have skype plugin
* I emptied cache and removed cookies
* I deleted firefox profile in $HOME/.mozilla
* Disabled all add-ons (I only have noscript, imglikeopera, adlock plus and the ubuntu firefox extensions)
* I tried the gmail manager extension
I installed epiphany web-browser and still was unable to log in to gmail.
Although I can log into my 8.04 parition to access gmail from the web, I would prefer to be able to do this via my 9.10.
How do you install Gmail Backup 0.107?I downloaded the zip file and extracted it to the download folder. What is the command to install it?

This is great news :-) But the sad part is that the plugin has been released only for Ubuntu and Debian based systems! So the thing is we have a .deb. Is there a way we could get the .rpm for installation? I tried using alien but sad enough, the generation of the rpm file fails for no reason what soever.
