I have installed slackware 13.1 on my friends laptop. Its an msi laptop . dual core 2ghz, 1gb ram nividia 9000 series.etc. everything is fine but after installing mplayer codecs from slackbuild and also xvidcore, i am not able to play avi files in mplayer. It is giving me a fatal error saying. error initializing -vo device. i tried to change the video driver. it was by default xv then i tried X11(xvid) then open gl and open gl with max textures . when i made it to open gl with max textures the video out came but it is lagging with the audio.

this error spams about 100 times, then the scanner does indeed work. So I'm not completely broken, but the error messages are of concern, and it slows down the process of scanning for the time it takes to do the messages.
Error in console:

I am currently running slackware 12.2 on a 25 GB partition. I like to use slackbuilds, but when I try to compile larger tarballs (like abiword, or a patched version of Ghostscript as I did today) I receive an error-message: 'Not enough space left on device'. I think the size of the partition must be big enough (I never got this message when compiling with Linux From Scratch). I think it has something to do with the size of my /tmp directory, but I don't know how to fix this. Is there a way to solve the problem, so that I could be able to use slackbuild-scripts?

For those that use Virtualbox on their slackware host and have a windows (xp) guest running. I have tried various settings for sound (Alsa, PulseAudio), the AC97 drivers are installed in the Windows xp guest os, but there is no sound and there is an unknown audio device (in the windows device manager). If I remove the AC97 drivers and use the soundblaster16 drivers in the Vbox settings there is no unknown sound device, but there's still no sound. why I can't get sound working?

And I've been looking around the net for information and kept on trying to make my nvidia card to work but to no avail. I have a 2nd ethernet card in my system that I use to share my internet connection. eth0 is connected to the internet, and eth1 is used for my 2nd computer to connect into. Whenever the 2nd computer is turned off, eth1 forgets its ip address, then when then 2nd computer is turned on, it can't access the internet until I reset the ip address on eth1 ("ifconfig eth1 up 192.168.1.1). I only see this behavior under ubuntu 10.04, not the previous distro that ran on this box, slackware 12. How do I keep eth2 from forgetting the ip address when no computer is attached?

I copy the memory contents of a running vm to an external state file and try to use that to start another VM in a different machine. While starting the cloned VM I provide a different mac address but once it resumes it has the old one . I tried changing the mac address in ifcfg-eth0 but I get the error: Device eth0 has a mac address xx:xx instead of configured xx:xx.Ignoring .
Is there some way to change the ip/mac of the cloned vm without the need to restart the VM ( Then the purpose of cloning will be defeated). Thanks a lot for the info.
I installed the Centos 5.5 and after the Xen. After I put a virtual machine named VM01.Initially it worked properly, I tried everything and it worked.When rebooted, I had problems with the network.I have two network cards eth0 and eth1, but eth1 does not have any ip and I use only eth0.The error that appears is:

We�re experimenting with deploying SUSE 10 SP3 systems and adding them to a Windows domain and DNS. Oddly, when we register in DNS, it gets registered under two address: the real IP address, and the address 127.0.0.2. Also, an ip addr command shows that the loopback device lo has two addresses: 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.2.
The above behavior is just on SP3. On SUSE 10 SP2, the lo device has only the 127.0.0.1 address, and the system is able to register correctly in DNS.
Do you know what the 127.0.0.2 address signifies, or how to get rid of it?
