Fedora Hardware :: Full Speed USB MSC Device Detected As Input Device?
Apr 7, 2011I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

Aug 15, 2015Yesterday I've installed Debian 8.1.0 on my desktop pc. I'm using Nvidia GT 730. After booting, the GPU fan runs at very high speed and really gets overheated. I didn't install any drivers etc.
Is there a solution for this or do i have to switch to Intel/ATI to use Linux? I said Linux, because every distros i've installed makes Nvidia chipset overheated and the fan runs at max. speed.
I'm terrified about making the GPU burnt.

Oct 14, 2010I am developing a GPS driver which is connected over a high speed UART. The driver of the high speed UART is available and it creates a device node /dev/ttyHS0. Now using the device node, I guess, I will be able to read/write from/to the GPS chip from user space but my aim is to write a GPS driver in the kernel space which would communicate with the high speed UART driver. After some initial study, I think I can either write a line discipline driver or a serio to communicate with the GPS chip firmware through high speed UART driver.

On lucid, it keeps resetting it to the microphone jack at the back of the computer (While I have a webcam up and running that it knows is what I use. How can I get it to remember my audio input? If by any mean I send to de device anything else than the predefined strings, stated by the manufacturer, the device ceases to respond. The only way I found its to turn off and then turn on the thing again. Which its very impractical. Its there any way to "reset de UART chip on the device" or send some string based on the RS232 standard that clean the device buffer?

Jan 24, 2010All I do is connect my Palm to the usb port, and it starts a reset loop. It resets, gets booted, and crashes to reset again. What's up with this? BTW, this same palm worked with gnome pilot on Debian and Vector installs, and works currently with an XP install. But on my 11.2 suse, it goes crazy.

So problem is no matter what device I connect to USB, after some time in dmesg errors are generated which bring load of one core to 100%. These errors are generated in dmesg:

Sep 23, 2009I have 4 Dell R200's with Seagate 2x250Gb drives running software raid on CentOS 5.2 kernal 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5. They all get these errors 5-10 times a day and when the errors occure the servers apear to freeze and drop all network connections, very frustrating. I've updated to smartmontools 1:5.38-2.el5 and confirmed with Seagate that I have the latest drive firmware, and am now at a loss as to how to fix this. All of the systems report the problem only on sda not sdb.

Jan 14, 2011I have 8 x USB2 ports on my computer. I know this from personal experience, Windows write speeds, and the spec sheet for my motherboard. I get USB2 write speeds in windows, however when in F14 I get an average of 1.5mb/s, which is USB1.1 speed. When I run lsusb it shows 2 x USB 2.0 and 6 x USB 1.1. /proc/bus/usb/devices shows 2 ports using ehci_hcd (480speed), and 6 using uhci_hcd (12speed).
modprobe -r ehci_hcd (or uhci_hcd) fails with "FATAL: Module ehci_hcd is builtin"
rmmod ehci_hcd (or uhci_hcd) fails with "ERROR: Module ehci_hcd does not exist in /proc/modules"
1) Why are 6 ports being identified as USB 1.1
2) How to I get them to use ehci_hcd and return to USB2.0 speeds?
OpenSUSE Hardware :: Ehci_hcd Fatal Error With USB2.0 Hard Drives
May 30, 2011I'm getting failures of ehci_hcd at random times when trying to copy files between USB2 hard disks on my new installation of OpenSUSE 11.4 on my new i7 machine. Kernel version is 2.6.37-0.5-desktop, x86_64. The error is very repeatable but happens at random times, not associated with any particular disk sector or file etc.It's becoming very annoying as it is causing files on my drives to become corrupted if they are open when the error occurs.
I have two USB2 hard drives plugged in, and I'm trying to copy files from one to the other either via terminal or nautilus. The symptom of the failure is that all USB devices on the root hub of those drives will suddenly disappear in the middle of a file transfer. This includes the KB & mouse , so I lose every USB device on the same root hub at once.
If the keyboard is on a separate root hub I can retain control of the PC. In this case, lsusb shows that the root hub to which the drives were connected has vanished - not just the drive itself. The whole root hub is gone. I have confirmed that it is NOT a problem with the drives themselves, because
(a) I have tried many different drives, of different brands, and they all do it,
(b) all my drives work flawlessly under Windows 7 and
(c) this never happened under my old OpenSUSE 11.2 on my old x86_64 core2 duo PC with the same hard drives.
They are all NTFS formatted and I use NTFS-3g to write to them. I don't have a choice about the NTFS, since they bring data from other Windows PCs. I'd much prefer to be on ext3, but what can you do. The root cause of the problem is that the ehci_hcd module is failing at a low level. It's not the NTFS-3g driver, by the looks of things. I have no idea how to fix this. I don't think it's a problem with my USB2 drives going to sleep mode because it happens in the middle of a file copy operation!
/var/log/messages output follows... /var/log/messages shows these kinds of errors at the leadup to a failure. Nothing suspicious appears until we suddenly see this:

... same message repeated 4 times ...
kernel: [ 509.075401] hub 1-1:1.0: Cannot enable port 3. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

NTFS-3g then unmounts ALL the drives on that root hub and everything falls in a heap as all I/O operations and every device on that hub fails in sequence.

Mar 24, 2011I have a 2nd ethernet card in my system that I use to share my internet connection. eth0 is connected to the internet, and eth1 is used for my 2nd computer to connect into. Whenever the 2nd computer is turned off, eth1 forgets its ip address, then when then 2nd computer is turned on, it can't access the internet until I reset the ip address on eth1 ("ifconfig eth1 up 192.168.1.1). I only see this behavior under ubuntu 10.04, not the previous distro that ran on this box, slackware 12. How do I keep eth2 from forgetting the ip address when no computer is attached?
