I'm trying to install compiz with a completely new install of slackware64-13.37. I had been using gsb gnome2 and compiz 0.8.6 under slackware64-13.1. I installed gsb gnome3 and, to my chagrin, found out that it is incompatible with compiz. I'm afraid I'm not "LEET" enough to install the old gnome (gnome2) pkg by pkg. Which version of compiz did you successfully install and in which desktop?
View 11 RepliesI am trying to solve multiple issues with my 64x natty install using gnome3 ppa( official ppa from gnome3). I have this setup on two machines, one is a fresh install the other is a upgrade. They both have most of these issues. Here they are: 1) Nautilus will not launch from the favorites bar. It does launch from a shortcut on the desktop. It will not run from the terminal unless I am root. 2) Number lock is disabled at startup (enabled in my bios). I used to be able to enable after nattty had started, I no longer can, though num lock light is lit - number keypad does not work!
3) I have set gnome3 set to let nautilus draw the background and desktop, I get a white screen at boot until Nautilus is launched then I get a background and some desktop icons(no computer or network icons). If I plug in a usb drive the icon appears on my desktop, when I select it I loose the background and have to select it again.
4) Wireless randomly will drop the connection, have to reconnect, sometimes it will, sometimes I have to reboot. I have Fedora installed on a 2nd hard drive on the machine with a clean install and the only similarity is it displays the default desktop until I launch Nautilus, then my background and desktop are displayed with all of the icons. From there on out Fedora has none of these issues. I have used Ubuntu Gnome and XFCE as my only os since 6.0 and have never had this many problems. Both machines would not run the gdm because of Nvidia issues after the upgrade and clean install. I DO NOT want to give up on Ubuntu as I tell all my friends and family to use it.

I've tried recompiling the libpng 1.4.2 package with the ln -sf libpng.so.3 libpng.so.0 uncommented from the Slackbuild script, and recompiled gd, and still haven't had any success.
I have just upgraded from a fully functional 9.10 to 10.04 which doesn't seem to find the correct intel video drivers when trying to activate compiz extra desktop effects on my laptop...

I tried reinstalling the video drivers using sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel with no luck, telling me I already am using the latest version.
It is no longer running my default when I log in it did go screwy yesterday I reinstalled my nvidia driver and it started allowing to to activate it. This is what it was saying:

Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.

I have installed compiz in slakcware 13.1 32 bit. i enable compiz in KDE + emerald (until this step, i didn't encounter a problem). But after i want to enable compiz in same PC and same OS but different username, the window decoration show same problem, it's missing !
That problem occur when i use KDE (it's same window manager that i use to install compiz in the first user). but if the second user use XFCE and i enable compiz + emerald, it's weird...it didn't show any problem...it's perfect.
But the problem is, if the second user want to use KDE desktop and enable compiz...that problem occur again...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just finished installing slack on my new computer, and after about 20 minutes of hair-pulling agony, I've gotten compiz working properly except for one plugin; the 3D windows plugin (windows hover over cube on rotate). I think it might be a corrupted ccsm- whenever I check the box next to the plugin, then try to rotate the cube, it is unchecked. Anyway, I know my graphics card (Geforce 6200 256Mb pci-e) is powerful enough to handle it since the driver installed properly and the effect worked on the knoppix live disk I used for partitioning. I'm running xfce and using emerald as the window decorator if it helps at all. It does the same thing with both animation packs.

However, when I run make on the first set of code (compiz-0.8.4 tar package), it halts with the following error:

As well as --disable-gconf and --disable-gnome since gnome isn't install on Slackware (I've also tried it without those, but it picks up on it anyway and throws them out). The folder I'm running this from is /root/Desktop/Compiz Fusion/compiz-0.8.4.
I've been using Slackware for about five years but I've never been bothered about compiz so it's all a bit new to me. Since I installed Slackware 13 (64bit) yesterday I noticed that compiz is one of the pre-installed packages so I thought I'd give it a blast.
I should probably have done a bit more research but I read on a forum that running "compiz --replace" will replace the default window manager with compiz so I gave it a try. The problem is that now none of my windows have borders so I can't move them or do anything. The worst part about the whole affair is that I can't even figure out how to revert to whatever the old window manager was.
EDIT : Just thought I'd add that I'm using XFCE.
EDIT++ : I've managed to revert the window manager by deleting my .cache directory. XFCE obviously maintainted the apps that were running and one of them was compiz. Now just to figure out how I can get compiz working. I presume emerald is the key...
after i installed compiz, and enable compiz. a problem happen... my firefox (3.6.3) display it's kinda odd, it's like the firefox graphics has been cutted every i move to another tab, this problem occur too when i scroll the web page (the graphics cutted).

Everything compiles and installs just fine under my Slackware64 13.1 install, and I follow the build order that's been posted here and on SlackBuilds.org. When I switch over to compiz and emerald from Xfwm4 using fusion-icon, everything looks just fine. However, all of the text that *I* input into aterm is corrupted. Using the xfce terminal doesn't seem to be a problem. When I move the cursor using the arrow keys, a similar type of display corruption occurs. When I close aterm, an outline of the window remains until I tell fusion-icon to reload the window manager.

What I'm looking for is all the console names of the base plugins (and eventually the others too), the order they need to be started in (if any), how to automatically start compiz when X starts, and how to change plugin settings (all without ccsm). How to do the above stuff without the use of a graphical tool.

When I have two windows open, if I close the top, active window, I would expect that the next window in the stack would receive the focus. However, it does not. I just installed KOffice, and all components listed with it under Office-Suite, using YaST's Add/Remove Software and I receive this error whenever I try running KWord The plugin 'kwordpart' uses an incompatible kde library (4.71 (4.71)).
KWord then does not run. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
By default, ubuntu is using an incompatible resolution for my monitor. It happens while booting and logging in. It is due to it using a Hz setting to high for the monitor.What can I do to fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running lucid with Thunderbird 3.1.5 (32 bit) and trying to install Lightning 1.0b2. Whenever, I install Lightning, I cannot restart TB, if I drop it. No error message. I have to start TB from the Terminal with "thunderbird -safe-mode", remove Lightning, and then everything works. I read of others having problems with TB and Lightning, but most of these are 64 bit. I am 32 bit. Please note that I have removed all other extensions from TB, but I still can't run Lightning.
One concern I have is that even though Synaptic says that TB 3.1.5 is install, the Help>About says just TB 3.1. It doesn't include the ".5". I am concerned that despite what Synaptic says, I might not have version 3.1.5 installed. Is there any way to check if I really have version 3.1.5 installed? I tried to install the latest nightly build of Lightning, but I got the error message "Lightning 1.0b3pre could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.6.10". how to get Lightning to run with Thunderbird?

Installed the 32bit dependencies from SDB: Skype (SDB:Skype - openSUSE ) i.e. su -c 'zypper install libasound2-32bit xorg-x11-libXv-32bit xorg-x11-libs-32bit libqt4-x11-32bit libpng12-0-32bit' Then installed the latest version (2.2.0.25 from Skype website for openSuse 11+
And when launching skype in a terminal window I get "Fatal: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40702) with this library (version 0x40701) Aborted" And this corresponds tot requireing an older QT library for Skype than is the current version from openSuse 11.4 How do I fix this?? I've already pursued all other solutions I could find.
After upgrading KDE from 4.6.0 to 4.6.3 SpiderOak will fail to run with message. Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40703) with this library (version 0x40701). There's no more SO package in Non-OSS, apparently due to some support issues. That's a pity, since Dropbox had conceded access to US agencies, IMO SpiderOak is a really good option, and has been working very nicely until now. Anyway, Yast tells me that KDE 4.6.0 uses Qt 4.7.1, while 4.6.3 brings in Qt 4.7.3. A possible solution may be found here, originally for Qt 4.7.2. I'll try it and report.
