but that did not work either.. actually checking further I found that the folder include is missing in usr/lib64/qt4/ !!!!

Trying to launch Second Life gives the following error message:

This problem was easily found using search with solutions for Fedora 11.
The following information has been found for adding the 32 bit support to Fedora 11 but it does not work in Fedora 12.
The file created in the instructions below is a list of the 32 bit libraries. It is then called as input to yum to simply install them.
"Add the Libraries Next, add the 32-bit libraries by copying the following list, and pasting it into a text file. Save it as �Fedora-ia32.txt�."
Another post says that was all unnecessary as the following commands would do the same thing.
Could have simply been achieved by calling:$ yum install SDL.i586...(Or by selecting SDL.i586 in add/remove programs.)
The problem I have with Fedora 12 are neither of these will install anything in Fedora 12. Looking at add/remove programs does not yield anthing that looks like it is 32 bit support when searching with the argument "SDL".
Does anyone know how to install 32 bit support into Fedora 12 64 bit version ? I like the simple yum expression rather than long lists like the first example uses, but I'll try anything if it works.
A side question to this entire experiment is what chance would you give to Second Life being able to be run remotely using VNC? I would think if it runes on the Linux machine, using a remote terminal would have little impact. Using VNC isn't the usual way this will be run, I just wonder if it would work at all.
I installed ripperX using a slackware package I found online. When I try to run the program however I get the following error:

I just did a fresh install of Slackware 13.0 on a Toshiba laptop, and the ONLY thing I did on it after creating a user and switching to init 4 was to run upgrades. After doing so several applications failed to launch, so I rebooted the machine. I get the following error followed by a login prompt:

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter finally getting my wireless/graphics drivers working yesterday (thanks to this forum ) I startx to realize that not a single KDE/Qt application will launch, along with Firefox, or Chrome/Chromium. (I did a full install from the DVD, not deselecting anything, and when I upgraded to -current, I also did the same.)

I noticed that the official Slackware packages don't contain static libraries. The SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org or from Slackware DVD usually contain --disable-static option to prevent building the .a file. And if configure script doesn't allow such option, the .a file is deleted before the package is created.I am wondering what is the reason for that? Is it just the matter of conserving disk space? Are there also other reasons?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slacware current. Ran the updates this morning, including kernel 2.6.33.2. I always get nervous about that since something often goes wrong. Sure enough -
trying to boot I get No kewrnel modules found for Linux 2.6.33.2-smp mount: mounting /dev/sda9 on /mnt failed: No such device ERROR: No /sbin/init found on rootdev ( or not mounted ) and failure to proceed with booting. I got an original warning about the initial ram disk being too big to fit and switched to using generic kernel, and yes I did run lilo afterwards and did add the initrd.gz line. I run Ubuntu on the same laptop and have to boot into that and work as chroot in my Slackware partition to try and fix things.
I installed Boost 1.43.0 on Fedora 12 32 bits, using standard build from the source code procedure:

./bjam
./bjam install
I see all Boost libraries in /usr/local/lib. Now I build my own program depending on the Boost libraries, and it is built successfully. However, when I try to execute my program, it shows "Library not found" message:

Now i have 64 bit computer i installed Slackware 23 64 bit on it. i followed Alien Bob's multi lib how to and installed needed libraries one by one. everything is fine expect wine configure script can not find some libraries needed: libgsm, libmpg123, libopenal, libxcomposite.
I have already installed 32 bit compatibility packages and used /etc/profile.d/32bit.sh as recommended in Alien Bob's howto. configure -- does not really list anything for pointing for libraries.

I have this old box that I used at school that I wanted to re-purpose and use. So i decided to that I wanted to run xp, ubuntu studio and slackware so I can learn about linux and do some other things with xp. I think I got through the installatiosa all fine and dandy, and I installed grub for my boot loader, I can boot into studio and xp, but I cant get into slackware. the grub boot menu is sorta funky too, it shows a generic and recovery mode for studio which is fine, and then another option for xp, some memory test boot option, but then for slackware it shows "Slackware Linux (Slackware 13.1.0) (on /dev/sda4) four times in a row. If I select any of them they all end up with some error; the third SW [slackware] option down the list of the repeated 4 allows me to sign into root, but when I type "startx" i get :

(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration
Fatal server error: no screens found
but thats with a lot of other text above that. if you need any more details, please dont hesitate to request for them. I'm going to take some time and cool down. I'm trying to get these three OSes running from one HD. I've partitioned the 80 gig drive as follows

I'm currently trying to setup Slackware 13.7 on a server, using software RAID 1. I'm using the README_RAID.TXT document at the root of the Slackware disc as a reference. Anyway, here's what I have so far.

I created an initrd image using mkinitrd -F, added an according stanza to /etc/lilo.conf and ran 'lilo' after that. Now I can boot on the vanilla huge kernel all right. But I can't seem to boot on the generic kernel. Whenever I try to do this, the boot process stops short on the following error message:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently setup a new server that serves files over samba and is a subversion repository for a number of projects. I did a simple apt-get update/upgrade for which the system requested a reboot. After I rebooted, I got to the login prompt, at which point I ran into a problem. After I enter my correct credentials, it spits out the following error:
sh: error while loading shared libraries libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 24
and returns me to the login prompt. Samba and Subversion are both still working, I simply can't login to the server either physically or via SSH.
What steps should I be taking to correct this issue? My thoughts are that I may need to use a Live CD to load the system and perhaps do another update, but before I go through that process I just wanted to check in and see if there might be some other solution.
I have tried googling the issue, and while I have seen other posts regarding shared library issues, there was never anything about not being able to login and I never did find anything specific to the error message I received.
Just trying to install Skype on Fedora 12 .. but got an error: skype: error while loading shared libraries: libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory So, anyone got it working there ?

I tried to install Playonlinux via slackbuild and if I am not wrong this package required a library named libnss3 ). This library was found in seamonkey, a program uninstalled by me. I had to reinstall it in order to build Playonlinus. Now playonlinux runs fine. My question is: why aren't all the libraries included separately on Slackware or its website in order to build automatically everypackage? Is is a huge list? It doesn't make sense to install a package that I will never use in order to have a library..

First time I've done this in awhile Upgrading my Slackware64 -current VM, following the standard routine that has always worked in the past -

slackpkg install-new
The clean-system removed 2 packages -
util-linux-ng
eggdbus
Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.
Why many Linux distros are trying to use always the latest versions of the libraries and don't save the old libraries for compatibility? I mean, I can see libtiff for example, i can found a libtiff.so.5 on my /usr/lib, but doesn't store a libtiff.so.4 or 3 just for binary applications or games. For this example, I need libtiff.so.4 for uplink.
That should happen too on the old version of sims for linux, some ID games or others.What's wrong with storing old libraries? PD: Yay, my first post on 3 years!
