In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a couple questions about Xfoward.
1: How much does it affect securty, over a lan network?
2: Will it cause any other security issues?
3: The most important is can I forwad X11 from a 32 bit slackware to a 64bit slackware
I've been running with DSL and Linksys router, connecting servers and printer via hard-wire Ethernet. The router doesn't like to talk to things without a network connection (the only thing I can have is a USB wireless modem until I get HughesNet or some other satellite service). What I'm wondering is what I need (a bridge? a switch?) to plug stuff in and have them talk to each other nicely.

My question is, how do I get wireless access in Slackware? I already have it set up to work with an wired connection but I really need the wireless access to make the OS functional for me to use.
So this has been going on for weeks now. Usually doesnt happen till friday-saturday. My internet breaks down on slackware, im able to play an online video game, and sometimes if i'm lucky, use pidgin to get on Gchat. However other than that, I cannot access the internet. I've tried multiple browsers, resetting my router, and resetting my modem. It's connected through an ethernet cord, and I am getting an IP from my router.
My first thought was that it was a bandwidth limit, but I'm at my house, on a windows computer typing this right now. I'm not an expert on bandwidth caps so maybe it is this. The weird thing is,I have a laptop running slackware as well. Even over wireless it doesnt work.
To make a very low level backup of my laptop prior to upgrading it, I decided to create an iso of the harddisk; while it is doing this, but a bit too far to just cancel and start anew, so I cannot test it out right now I decided to post here.
of course, there are partitions on /dev/sda (there's a swap for example)I may (am pretty damn sure I will) want to access the files within the iso, and that's where I wonder how to tackle that; I'm thinking along the lines of setting up a loopback device (losetup) but I don't think that that will be enough to recognize the partitions. Any thoughts? (or just re-create an image of /dev/sda1 ?)
I use a WD 300 gb usb disk for backup, storage etc. No problems until a couple of weeks ago. I can access it with file managers, gparted, fdisk etc with no problems. But now I am unable to write more than the occasional file to the disk. There seems to be no consistency as to what will or won't write. I get a message that the operation is not permitted. This occurs under either user or root.It happens in both 13 and 13.1. No other issues have come up. The internal hard disk in the laptop remains normal. All other usb periph's are working properly.

Whilst my office is decorated I have to move my computer. To make this as easy as possible I have setup my first ever wifi. An access point (wired to adsl router). It is working by using wicd and I am wireless at the moment. What security should I put in place (wicd says unsecured). I am probably quite safe as the nearest road or house is 200m away but I would like to learn what I need to do as this is the first time in over 20 years of computing that I have gone wireless.

What should be the groups for this user in order to access the scanner? Actually, they are: haldaemon, disk, audio, video, cdrom, plugdev, power, scanner, lp. Below are the outputs for sane-find-scanner (as both root and user), although, since the scanner works well under root, I am almost sure it is a problem with setting permissions and groups.

i'm running slack 13.37. my machine has a "generic" wireless card which is currently sitting idle in it, since i used a wired interface for internet and local networking (i used the wireless interface for a while, but for what i need it wasn't a reliable or stable enough connection). my question is, can the idle card be used as a wireless access point on a separate subnet? if so how?

I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.
