Slackware :: Downloading From Http Site (Robby's Packages) With File Globing

I've never figured out a good program to use with file globbing from http sites. Wget works with ftp sites and file globbing and for mirroring I use lftp, but I would really like to download just the files that start with "xf" from Robby's site.

Debian :: Package Search Site And Stable, Sid, And Experimental All Have Packages For Wine

Aug 21, 2011

At first I thought it might be a free software thing but I went on the debian package search site and stable, sid, and experimental all have packages for wine. Why is there none for wheezy? Is it a temporary dependency thing or...? I've googled this but there has been no kind of answer anywhere. Right now I'm using the frickelplatz apotsid repository as they package the most recent version of wine but if I could use a standard debian repository I would.

Debian :: Search Installed Packages And List Available Docs

Jan 11, 2016

I have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.

Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.

Ubuntu :: Lib Packages Not Found In Config Search Path

Aug 16, 2011

I just installed Netsurf, but I was confronted with "libnsbmp is not installed". So I installed libnsbmp.
The error "libnsgif is not installed" appeared when installing libnsbmp.
The error "libpng is not installed" appearded when installing libpnf.
...
I installed all that I was asked to install. However, when I was installing libcss, it said that "Package libparserutils was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing 'libparserutils.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable". I have already installed libparsercutils but not in the /usr/lib dir.

What should I do to continue my installation? And anyone could tell me what are those lib stuff? I installed zlib with the apt-get install command. Can I get other lib stuff with the same command?

Ubuntu Installation :: Search For Installed PPA Packages That Are Not In Stock Repository?

Dec 19, 2010

I had some major bugs with KDE 4.3 and 4.4 and the only way that I could fix them was to install the entire KDE 4.5. This was mid-Summer. Now I would like to upgrade to Maverick the proper way and have 4.5 in a stock repo.

I managed to get most of kde back to stock by luck and uninstall/reinstalling kdebase stuff and kubuntu-desktop a couple of times. A pain in the neck trying to find important packages that are already installed from a previous PPA.
BTW my sources.list is stock right now.

Does anyone know of a way to search for installed PPA packages that are not in the stock repository?

Slackware :: Static Libraries - Why Aren't They Shipped In Official Slackware Packages

Aug 12, 2010

I noticed that the official Slackware packages don't contain static libraries. The SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org or from Slackware DVD usually contain --disable-static option to prevent building the .a file. And if configure script doesn't allow such option, the .a file is deleted before the package is created.I am wondering what is the reason for that? Is it just the matter of conserving disk space? Are there also other reasons?

Slackware :: Search Harddrive For MBR Backup?

Nov 2, 2010

I screwed up and managed to overwrite my MBR with one that had a different partition table, thereby losing access to all of my partitions and data. Now, I was semi-smart and backed up the MBR before I did this, but the "semi-" part is that I backed it up onto the hard drive in question because I was thinking only in terms of losing my ability to boot from the MBR, not the whole partition table.

So...as I see it my only means to recover my data is to find and recover that 512 byte block on the disk media. Having read a little bit, this seems possible given that I know to look for a) the MBR signature at offset 510, b) the partition status byte at offset 446, and c) the partition type byte at offset 450.

What I need is help figuring out the most efficient way to do this. I've experimented with a shell script using dd, hexdump, and grep, but searching 1000 blocks takes ~20seconds, so to search the whole drive (100GB) will take something like 800hrs. This is limited, I believe, by the fact that my live disk of Knoppix won't recognize a drive on the SATA bus, so I had the target drive mounted through a USB adapter. But even if it were being accessed via SATA, I have a feeling it would be pretty slow.

I need someone who is an expert to help me figure out a script, program, etc. that can search for and identify the sector where my MBR backup resides more efficiently.

Slackware :: Powerful Indexed Search Tool

Jun 9, 2011

I am familiar with slackware's slocate. What slocate doesn't have is an option to limit returned results from specific users or groups. What's more I can't seem to find a gui/web frontend so that people without knowledge of cli can benefit from the slocate's indexed search. So I turn to you all, is there another tool, that supports per user/group searching and a web (preferably) frontend?(clarification) i think slocate returns results related to the user running the search (files that he owns as well as files that are owned by his primary and other groups). Is that correct? I basically want a search user (who will be a member of the several groups that our office is structured like) to get results by giving as search criteria not only the filename, but also the owner of the file and / or the group

Networking :: Site To Site Vpn Racoon With Cisco Asa 5505 Routing?

Mar 25, 2010

I have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.

For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.
