Slackware :: Compile 2.6.37 Kernel Patched With The Autogroup Patch On A Slackware 13.1 System?
Jan 13, 2011
it's possible to compile the 2.6.37 kernel patched with the autogroup patch on a Slackware 13.1 system running 2.6.33.4-smp with 2.6.33.4 headers? I just compiled and installed the 2.6.37-autogroup kernel from AUR on my ARCH setup and I like it especially when using firefox with lots of tabs open and other background apps also running. I did notice a speed and smothness difference in my ARCH testing setup with this kernel patch and I can get same results in 13.1??

[URL]... Anyone got this going on slackware? I've a single cpu and twincore here and the videos of the original patch were impressive. I tried it and I don't have /sys/fs/cgroup anything. So I added the cgroup scheduler in 2.6.35, but no dice. Do I have to go to git or 2.6.37??

i.e. I am not 100% sure which drivers I need to compile into the kernel but do not want to compile all of them for my laptop??

I'm trying to compile a newer version of devicekit-power (currently I have 009) so maybe I can suspend/hibernate my laptop again, after I updated the kernel. I installed every package "./configure" asked, so it made a Makefile. When I use "make", it builds a few files, then I get this error:
[code]...
Also, is upower-0.90/91 the same thing but newer?

after upgrading to make 3.82, I can not compile the newest kernel: 2.6.35-rc6-git5,it failed with:
GEN /home/aaa/tools/kernel/output/35/Makefile
CHK include/linux/version.h
CHK include/generated/utsrelease.h
[code].....
Maybe 3.82 has some backward-incompatibility that breaks kernel compilation.

I compiled my own custom kernel for the first time. I tinkered with different options, nothing to difficult. I actually didn't expect it to work the first time.
I had kept the original lilo boot config just in case something was to go wrong. Now when I try to boot the system, I always get a "VFS: cannot mount root system on (8,3)". I googled this and found that my kernel did not support my root filesystem (btrfs). So I made an initrd with btrfs kernel module, but it didn't help. I then got a string of errors about how /dev could not be mounted.
My question is two-fold. First, how come when I configure the system back to when it was first installed, it still won't boot? Im using the same kernel (2.6.37.6-smp). Second, how can I get myself out of this rut without reinstalling?
lilo.conf
Code:
lba32
append=" vt.default_utf8=0"
boot=/dev/sda
vga = normal
# Linux - Slackware
image = /boot/vmlinuz-huge-smp-2.6.37.6-smp
root = /dev/sda3
label = Linux
read-only
BTW, I have been maintenancing the system by chrooting into the device off of my slackware boot disk. Im on slack 13.37

I'm trying to bring my Slackware system back to life as my XP HDD is dying... I've got everything working except for my audio. I got a new motherboard (ASRock P43DE3) and it has a VIA VT1708S as the onboard audio. Is there any way I can get this working without rebuilding the kernel?

Has anyone tried compiling a custom kernel (from git source), with the "sched_autogroup_enabled" patch on the current (fully updated) maverick meerkat?
If so, will the brave soul please share their experience and how they did it.
The reason I am interested in it is due to the fantastic desktop responsiveness gains.

Mousepad in xfce seems to have a problem when compiled with the latest libraries. In Slackware Current (13.1 RC1?) the "Find" button stays disabled the SECOND time you try to do a "find". Because of this, you can only do one "find" without closing Mousepad and opening it again.I found a bug report for this problem in a forumr a different distribution:[URL]I have applied this patch to the current xfce source code on my local machine and it seemed to solve the problem.It would be nice if this patch could make its way into the 13.1 release.

I started up my machine this morning and entered my password to encfs as I do each day and was greeted with a message telling me my password was incorrect. I tried several times, checked caps lock but no joy.
The message (which I didn't copy and paste unfortunately) mentioned ssl and I remembered that openssl was one of the security patches I applied at the weekend. So I removepkg'd the two openssl packages (v0.9.8m) and then installpkg'd the original ones that came with slackware 13.0 (v0.9.8k).

I just rebuild the kernel for slackware 13, everything works, but root file system which is ext3 is mounted as ext2. Normally I've build ext3, ext4 and so on as modules, not in the kernel... but if I do this, then the kernel mounts the file system as ext2, which is build in the kernel. I also modified rc.modules so I can make sure that ext3,ext4,jbd are loaded, but it doesnt work.

I;m installing RTAI and I get this message. I can't seem to find the solution, because I really don't know exactly what the main problem is. There are a list of error,s and warnings that I 'm not sure from where should I tackle the problem: Here is what I get when I boot my 2.6.31.8 kernel with GRUB. (I used the RTAI x86 compatible patch):

I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:
