But when I extracted my back archive from a different system to my eprints archive my httpd stoped working. The error report in my /var/log/httpd/error_log is give below.

Just one question,I can not use "?abc" to search abc in man page.(At the bottom of man page there is a "more") But I can do that if I install from a installtion CD1 with default opition. What is the problem?

There is one little thing annoying me in man pages. When I search for text using '/' command the line where the text is found is positioned at the top of the screen. I find it inconvenient because when I search for text I want to see it in the context which also includes the a couple of lines before the found text.Is there a way to tell the man pager not to scroll the screen all the way to the top during search?

When creating their account, I have turned off the 'Connect to ethernet and wireless' option of the Advanced Settings.
However, when I log into their accounts, they still have full access to the internet through both the wireless and ethernet connections. Is this option for some other purpose?
Is there an alternate way to limit internet access for childrens' accounts in Ubuntu? (I'm used to MS Family Safety as a filter for internet access - is there an eqivalent for Ubuntu?)
I'm having some problems properly configuring my DNS settings on my Zimbra Server.
I am running Zimbra collaboration suite on Ubuntu Server which is configured at 192.168.1.11 on DMZ. A BIND9 server is also running on the same machine (192.168.1.11). This machine serves as a mail server.

This is sort of mixed between hardware and software but it seemed more appropriate to me here. I'm building a server for very fast disk access. We have 8x32GB SSD SATA drives and 4x300GB SSD SATA MFT drives. The 300GB SSD drives are the slow kind of flash that writes slowly, and strangely is limited to 10K writes per sector. Long term data integrity isn't a big deal because it is backed up continuously but fast access to data is desired. Additionally the filesystem that contains this data deletes about 2.5 - 4 gigs of data per day, and adds about 2.5-4 gigs of data per day.
My plan is to create a hybrid drive of sorts, where the smaller 32G drives, lined up in RAID0, create a fast "buffer" disk, and on some increment what is in the buffer is written in bulk to the slower writing 300GB SSDs. I had two thoughts on how to achieve this, but ultimately I think that LVM snapshots are the best way to achieve this, put the read only "snapshot" on the big SSD drive and the other "differencing" part of the snapshot on the faster raid0. I'd much prefer a simpler solution where there is one block device to mount and all this is handled in the background.
I'm working hard with Nagios 3.0.4 on Debian Lenny. I have some questions. I can't find any information about these issues. I have hosts with a first_notification_delay of 60 minutes.And I have the whole day a Nagios controlling the same hosts. It's good to know if the same host is turned on during the night, but my work period begins at 10:00 am and it finish at 22:00 pm, I'm not a lucky boy I have configured a notification Period to 10:00 am to 22:00 pm.
Question 1: If a host goes into hard state CRITICAL, I know that Nagios waits 60 minutes to send a notification, but What happens if the host recovers before the first_notification_delay period ( for example, 30 min before)?Does it send the recovery notification or not?
Question 2: If a hard state happens at 21:59. Does Nagios wait until the 10:00 am of the day after to send the notification? If the host recovers at 9:00 am of the day after is the notification message cancelled?
I've been told to setup a first ubuntu sw development pc in my office. Our network domain server is Windows 2000 Advanced. Are there any issues or limitations that would prevent this marriage? Will it be apparent when I crack open ubuntu? Maybe a link to this procedure? Is joining a workgroup equally simple?

I've got an amazon EC2 instance running Natty 11.04. I want to harden this server and make sure it's very secure as I ultimately will be handling sensitive data. just thought i would throw this out there as a google search doesnt even come back with what i need. I have setup proftp with a mysql auth on a debian box. When i save files or try to modify them i get an error. Ie i dont have permission. When i look at the permissions for the files, it has a 2001 user permission and a ftpgroup as the group permission.
I want it to be ftpuser and ftpgroup with readable and writable permissions for the user and group. This is my second proftp box and i basiclly copied the config files over from the old box.
I was saddled with the job of maintaining my department's website (I work at a college). When I still used windows I would access my department's folder on the web server using the following procedure: (in windows XP) go to the start menu > click 'run' > enter the folder address, I would be prompted for my login and password. The folder, and the whole server in fact, would then be visible in the windows file browser, under the 'networks' icon. I could then navigate to my department's folder and modify the files I need to to update the website.
How do I do this in Opensuse (using Gnome). I tried going to 'network' in nautilus and then 'open location' but no luck. I also tried 'connect to server' in nautilus (in the 'file' menu), but again no luck. which I could stomach if my college provided reliable access to computers on campus, but they don't so I have to use my laptop, which is now windows free . My current job is only going to last for a few more months, so having only so recently got rid of windows I am reluctant to re-install it just for this purpose (which is just about the only reason I currently have for using windows - the other is being able to download audiobooks from the public library, but that's another matter).
I'm completely new to Linux/Ubuntu, but I managed to create a FTP server by using apt-get vsftpd or something.I followed a tutorial and modified a file called vsftpd.conf.I tried to disable all kind ofblocking/permissions. From a Windows client, I can connect to it without any login (I enabled anonymous) and I can download from it, but I am unable to modify it or upload files. Unless there is a better way to transfer files between the computers, how can I enable writing on the FTP server?

I have been looking into SVN post-commit hooks to solve this problem. The only problem is that apache does not have permission to modify files in my user directory... So here is how everything is setup. I am running Slackware 13 full install. There have been no installations overriding any of the default installs.

I was trying to have access from a browser to the squirrelmail configtest page in my server, making some changes, I accidentaly remove the directory webmail. After I replace it with a backup apache2 can not start. This is what I have. Syntax error on line 281 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of [URL].. closed. i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.
I'm moving an office intranet server to a new machine running CentOS 5 with apache 2.2.3. Everything worked fine on my old CentOS server and nothing new or fancy being tried on the new machine: default server, no name virtual hosts etc.. However, on the new server I can only see the index.html page when I browse to it. Index.html is a frameset which calls other pages to load from subfolders to /var/www/html. The frameset loads but in each frame I see "The requested URL /hot_stuf/data_colm.html (etc.) was not found on this server.".

The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

What is my problem? I have a page (one page - text an graphic) to print. When I sent it to my printer it prints OK. When I sent it agian, the output is totally garbled. When I sent it again (a third time) it is OK. Sent it again (4th time) it is garbled. Sent it again ... you get the picture ;-). Alternating good and bad pages.
What is my setup? I run Fedora 14 with Cups 1.4.6. The printer is a HP Deskjet 940C. It is connected to a linksys wireless print server. It is configured in CUPS to use ipp printing. The driver I use in Cups is 'CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified (color, 2-sided printing)'.
