Fedora :: Modify Text In Firefox Search List?
May 19, 2010I wondered if there was a way in Fedora (I'm running 12) to rename Firefox search plugins as they appear in the search bar's dropdown list.

View 4 RepliesStruggling to find right place to post, or for FAQs, or anything, because reading web browser is such a strain: can use Firefox v. happily in MS Windows, but, new to Linux and Fedora (14), I can't physically SEE where to start modifying appearance of either desktop or browser, which seem minute. I'm sure there's a really simple route if someone can just start me off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedCurrently, when I'm searching text in files of my PHP project, I use this line :
Code:
grep -r 'myTextToFind' *
But now, I would like to search only in ".lang" files. How can I do that ?
Somehow I was able to see Opera, and could use the Search bar/box but I can't use it the same way for Firefox in Linux. Firefox is fine in Windows, but not in Linux, so I decided to delete it and install it again. But it doesn't work.

The choices on the drop down are 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and never.Is there an easy way to modify or add additional choices to the list? This would allow me to easily switch between them, if necessary.If not, what would I need to modify behind the scenes, to set this value to 4 hours?

I downloaded an .emerald + GDK theme off gnome-look.org and absolutely love it so far. The only thing I do not like about it is the fact that it changes the background color of all webpage text boxes to black, which sorta ruins a lot of sites. where I can modify just that little bit? the webpage text box color? I'd like to keep the theme and just set the text boxes back to normal. Using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition.

View 11 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn certain sites like this one and Sears, after about 30 seconds the screen goes mostly white with a few black spots and the cursor turns into a big white square... for a few seconds. Afterwards, the site mostly returns, but all text on the screen is unreadable.It's not fuzzy, just weird, non-discernible symbols. 4/5 it goes back to normal if I log out and back in, though it does over and over if I revisit the same sites. It's been going on since about Monday.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.
Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.
The goal is to auto-update a webpage that contains links to network devices. These devices are all set to DHCP, and their hostnames are not guaranteed to stay the same, so static IPs or accessing via hostname is NOT an option.
Process: Run a script every hour or so to query devices on the local network to generate a list of responding devices by MAC address and what their current IP is (results.lst). Using a "static" MAC address list file "printers.db" as the database search "results.lst" to find specific MAC addresses. When a match is found, grab the IP from "results.lst" and update "index.html" with the new IP address. No comparison needs to be done between "results.lst" IP and "index.html" IP as I just want to overwrite whatever is there.
Here is what I have so far (using dummy data): PRINTERS.DBProduct Mac Address Printer1 00:00:00:00:00:11 Printer2 00:00:00:00:11:11 Printer3 00:00:00:11:11:11 Printer4 00:00:11:11:11:11 Printer5 00:11:11:11:11:11 Printer6 11:11:11:11:11:11 TEST.SH

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a html page and I would like to search for the occurance of a given string as an anchor. Then I would like to search backward for a the first match to a given regular expression. As a result I would like to output the text between the two points.
Please note that I would like to have the output up to the first regex match before the ANCHOR point.What is the best tool to solve this?
I have done a bunch of searches on this but the terms seem to get tangled in the more popular search of "colouring the output of grep / awk". I am trying to find a way to grep/awk through the output of a command to find text of a specific colour. The command's output has a range of colours signifying too many different things to specify using text, with colour being the only form of grouping.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm trying to read a file in c++ and search for particular character for example if this is a list that I have:
Alice
Bob
David
[code]....
if the input is D, it should give David, if its B, gives bob. so in this case, meaning it reads the first character of every line. but if possible I want to make this dynamic so the user can specify which character position he is looking for, so in case he is looking for R as character index 3 in all lines, it should give Charlie. but the problem is, it does now recognize , besides, I do not know how to specify the character position in each line.
here is my code
Code:

#include <fstream>
#include <cstring>

i was wondering if in all the editors/tools in linux, if there was a prog that can extract a portion of a text file, giving it a starting line of say o as the first character on a line of say o35565 oxxxxx then when it finds the next line down the file with the same thing oxxxxwhatever
it could take those lines and all the lines between them and save it to another file? i dont know if you call this parsing? or what.
A search engine for software only would be nice. Member Craigevil maintains a huge list of repos here:

Might it be possible to search them all at once? Perhaps by adding them all, OR MOST of them, to /etc/apt/sources.list?
Long story short, I got a folder with nearly 800,000 php files. I would like to search each file for a string and if it exists in that file, the file gets copied to another directory. Is this possible from the terminal? So far I got: grep -i -n -r 'ppr-1792' * | cp $1 move_to_here
But this obviously doesn't work. $1 needs to be the file name that contains matching text.
I have a hidden folder with a lot of text files in it. I would like to search in this folder for all files containing a given text.The File Browser's" FIND searches only in the file names, not in their contents.The FIND function of Ubuntu does not allow me to search ONLY in the given hidden folder. So, how can I find my files within the hidden folder with the given text within them?
